I love this. It's not something that I can afford and to be honest I'm to busy with 3D ceramic printing anyways, but this is certainly something that we need to hopefully kickstart another 3D printing path like we have seen with FDM and Resin printing! hi, I am really impressed, I have kept an eye on the website for a while but this has really convinced me and ill be funding this cause. good work bro. honestly.
This is an awesome project! Actually even more than the printer harware I love the Software you came up with and your decision to make it open source! This will encourage people to push it even more forward! "On the shoulders of a giant..." Still not sure if I will build one myself. I know for sure I don't need one. But who would ever ask such a question?😂
This is a major relief! After Micronics sold themselves to Formlabs I was almost certain that SLS would never come close to the consumer market again. While not as cheap as what the Micron would have been, this is still WAY better than what Formlabs or any other company is offering. Thank you!!!!
As a tinkerer who last built a machine 13 years ago, (a bbig ole CNC router), i think its time to take on the endeavor once again. I have a lot of boxes full of random parts built up since then, time to get into them!
Micronics just became a sellout, and this video pop out on my recommendation list. What a day, my question is that, is it possible to have it made with a large build volume? if so which parts that needs to be modified to accommodate the large build volume?
Yes, it is possible. In the Z-axis it would be relatively easy to redesign it to have printer with a deeper chamber at the end. XY axes which means galvo controlled axes will be a bit tricky if you think about more than say 15-20mm in each axes direction. It will mostly be about the mechanical parts and maybe about some of the heating elements.
@@SLS4All I see, thanks for your prompt reply. Really looking forward to build this printer once I got all the parts, Thank you for what you do for the community.
Really nice UI. With the demise of micronics, this becomes more interesting. I could see that using a RPI 5 in place of the 4 could be advantageous in arranging parts quicker.
Thanks! We started with the RPI 4 in our first prototype years ago. Then we moved to the RockPi 4B because during corona RPI was impossible to buy. But we faced significant problems with the long term stability. Therefore we moved to RPI 5 as soon as at was possible to source it easily. So, it is in there already.
This is a huge step in consumer based sls printing! Question though, why do you not need to sinter the parts after they are printed like most other sls printers?
That's really great! I hoped that it could be interesting for the technical high schools and universities. Students will understand all aspects of the SLS technology in deep detail during build. If you could share my project with other high schools or unis it would be much appreciated.
This will defintely be the next printer/product I talk about on camera. With the sadness around the Micronics/Formlabs situation, this REALLY does seem like the best option. I'm very eager and hopeful for this printer. I hope we can make this as best as it can be! Open source rules!
Thanks a lot! Branded PA12 powder is around 100USD/kg, non-branded from Ali is appprox. 55USD/kg. Note that 1kg of powder is approx. 2 litres in volume.
Thank you! No, it's not possible because powder can't be contaminated by blasting media. It is good to clean the majority of the powder using brush and to use media blasting to finish it afterwards.
Thank you for this video. And even more for this project. Question : Can you maybe make 3D presentation of how much space a standard setup would require (printer, cleaning station, any other table / shelf needed ). It would be important info for the people who would like to purchase your kits. Thanks
Thanks a lot! It was really not an easy task and it took quite some time to make all the necessary optimizations. To move from RPi 4 to RPi 5 helped a lot as well.
It looks pretty promising ! Thanks for having it Open Source/DIY, we don't see that everywhere. In hurry to see more complex prints (eg. High details figurines), those were quite easy one... Furthermore, comparison of parts strength vs FDM prints could be nice to see if SLS is worth it. Total printing cost per gram or volume can be calculated I assumed ?
Thanks! If you are interested in prints with more details check this gallery: sls4all.com/test-prints-gallery/#bwg20/590 Mechanical tests are planned, I will post the results. As for the costs - yes it can be calculated. Powder which I use is about 100USD/Kg.
Question: Why is the sintering done object by object? Won't it be faster and more efficient if it did line by line? Planning to get the kit somewhere in the first quarter of 2025.
This would be great for people like me who are stuck at home and looking to start or learn a new business. I wish I could afford something like this, I lost everything when I got cancer and now stuck at home most of the time. Look forward to seeing where this project goes, good luck!
The only thing holding me back from getting into SLS 3D printing is the plastic polymer powders. I can't find them locally, and importing them is extremely expensive. To buy and import 5kg of powder would cost me almost as much as a brand new Prusa printer!
This thing is amazing! I hope what's published remains published regardless of what the future holds for this wonderful project! What's killing me is the post processing of these parts. PA12 is a crazy strong material that speaks for itself once you have in in your hands but the process is even more involved and much more messy than even SLA which most people already don't want to do. Seems like the next step is to develop and auto-cleaner as well as a proper powder recycler. Then, while we're at it, we need to develop a part recycler. I don't see why that wouldn't be possible. Just grind down the parts back to powder of the same grain size. I'm sure there is a way to so that reliably similar to the original industrial process as well. Keep up the amazing work!
Thanks! Post processing can be annoying but not if you have the right tools and accessories. I don't think it will be easily possible to have fully automated post processing on the small SLS machines, but maybe I am wrong.
It seems like this just in the video - in reality it is OK. But this is really more than cosmetic issue which can be changed within a minute if needed.
This is totally fascinating and hopefully it answers my question about a specific use case for 3D printing. Have you tried printing any objects with sugar - as in the edible sweet stuff? This is what I am currently researching and obviously the SLS method looks like the only practical solution
Incredible work, you should be very proud! I wont be bale to afford this version but I hope you and the open source community can continue to lower the price of SLS, thanks for being our saving grace with the whole Micronics shit
No discouraging from me and it already looks great. Been aware of you're work for a little while. I know it could be a ways off but what is involved in being capable of metal? Im not talking about sintering the metal directly with the laser but using a metal powder with binder. The binder is sintered with the low power laser then parts removed from cake and finished in a sintering furnace. I think you should look into finding suppliers of such metal/binder combo powders and start experimenting with those. A sintering furnace should be easy to engineer in comparison to the Inova.
Thanks for yor support. You are right. Cold metal fusion, how this is called, should be possbile with the Inova. I know the company making materials so I plan to contact them once I have some spare time.
@@SLS4All That's great. Calculating shrinkage percentage of caused by the sintering furnace on the parts for various metals should be easy. There would definitely be challenges. I see lots of value in you're equipment with polymers especially for composite materials as it is. Metal is really kinda the "holy grail" though you know. It's really what most people want I think. Anyway was happy to have sparked the conversation and while I don't think I can afford the SLS at least for a while I wish you continued success and good luck.
Just wanted to say you have done an amazing job so congratulations. Also. If someone does come to you with an attractive offer to buy you out, do it. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity to make a lot of money and no one should hold that against you.

This will defintely be the next printer/product I talk about on camera. With the sadness around the Micronics/Formlabs situation, this REALLY does seem like the best option. I'm very eager and hopeful for this printer. I hope we can make this as best as it can be! Open source rules!
That is really excellent. The UI nest software is really slick. I'd love to try it. How much does the 5L nylon powder cost? Very cool.
Thanks a lot!
Branded PA12 powder is around 100USD/kg, non-branded from Ali is appprox. 55USD/kg. Note that 1kg of powder is approx. 2 litres in volume.
The best time for releasing this video!
I will be definitely making this printer 😉
Absolutely insane project! Great work 🫶 I have to save money for this project 😅
Love the video! Can't wait to build one.
Question: When you sandblast the part for the better result. Is the powder that comes off still reusable?
Thank you!
No, it's not possible because powder can't be contaminated by blasting media. It is good to clean the majority of the powder using brush and to use media blasting to finish it afterwards.
Safe to assume that you don't require supports the same way that you would with resin prints?
yes. but you need to make sure you can remove the powder from your finished part
Yes, SLS printing is support free. Parts are supported by the non-sintered powder around them.
Thank you for this video. And even more for this project.
Question : Can you maybe make 3D presentation of how much space a standard setup would require (printer, cleaning station, any other table / shelf needed ).
It would be important info for the people who would like to purchase your kits. Thanks
That's a good idea, I'll prepare some information about that.
Right on Bro. Very cool.
I Hope I can afford one some day.
Chanel will have thousands of subscribes today.. I’m so happy if be honest 🎉🎉🎉
This part is going to get over looked by a lot of people, but great work getting the nesting to run so fast on that raspberry pi!
Thanks a lot! It was really not an easy task and it took quite some time to make all the necessary optimizations. To move from RPi 4 to RPi 5 helped a lot as well.
When the world needed him the most... He showed up!
I'm looking forward to seeing the open source files! This looks like great work.
How can we get CNC kitchen to see this video?
This software looks incredible
Thanks a lot!
Dude you are a legend for this
It looks pretty promising !
Thanks!
If you are interested in prints with more details check this gallery: sls4all.com/test-prints-gallery/#bwg20/590
Mechanical tests are planned, I will post the results.
SLS4All you are godsent!
The only thing holding me back from getting into SLS 3D printing is the plastic polymer powders. I can't find them locally, and importing them is extremely expensive. To buy and import 5kg of powder would cost me almost as much as a brand new Prusa printer!
Yes, the pills are unfortunately quite expensive. May I ask which country you're from?
@@SLS4All I live in Saudi Arabia
Ah, OK, now I understand...
Where is your donate button. I can't afford to buy a kit right now, but I definitely want to see you succeed.
I don't have any. But since you're not the only one who ask, I'll consider it. Thank you very much for your support.
Phenomenonal! That's just brilliant!
wow, very important moment in tech
I really love this
This thing is amazing!
It looks amazing. One thing that might be an issue is the red text for the bed loading and halogen heater test. Red on black is hard to read.
It seems like this just in the video - in reality it is OK. But this is really more than cosmetic issue which can be changed within a minute if needed.
WICKED! Keep the dream alive!!
This is totally fascinating and hopefully it answers my question about a specific use case for 3D printing. Have you tried printing any objects with sugar - as in the edible sweet stuff? This is what I am currently researching and obviously the SLS method looks like the only practical solution
I haven't tried it but it should be possible. I'll try it once I have some free time.
Incredible work, you should be very proud! I wont be bale to afford this version but I hope you and the open source community can continue to lower the price of SLS, thanks for being our saving grace with the whole Micronics shit
This man will be a hero to the Maker community if he doesn't sell out like all the others...
Can you print metal parts with it? Using some different powder designed for SLS it should be possible I guess.
No, that's not possible. Metal printing is a whole different world.
Wow that is looking really good.
Many thanks for your support. I really appreciate it.
Congrats! Looks like a great product. Would love to check it out and see more of it in the future. Also a cyclist 😉👍
How the print speed, print quality, and post-processing compare against a large SLA printer?
A better timing! Just when micronics announce its surprise
