This man's humility, beyond his creativity, is his greatest strength. I've had the fortune of meeting him & he's just one of us: a(nother) fan. I love/respect him.
I've had an MPC for years, and I'm still struggling to program drums at his level. He learned how to sequence within a month or so........straight up genius.
At the college where I study, every day I put some music from the endtroducing album in the background to listen to while I do my activities. DJ Shadow, thanks for all your work man, you made history in your creations, and you help me everyday, emotionally even...
Josh Davis is a musical wizard. His albums defined key moments of my life and endtroducing, private press and psyence fiction blew my mind. My favorite artist of all time by far. Bravo 👍🏻
First heard Building Steam when I was a sophomore in high school and it changed my life. It had the most emotion of any instrumental I’d ever heard and it still does to this day. Such an incredible album
I appreciate DJ shadows raw honesty and the time he takes to accurately describe something as opposed to rationalize with instant emotion he really takes the time to articulate factually what it is or most likely is and for that I applaud him because it's such a stand-up thing to do and it's what we all should do.
I think the most remarkable thing that this album managed to do, certainly because it seemed like a bit of a wager at the time of its release, is standing the test of time. Even 25 years later, it still sounds every bit as fresh, innovative and visceral. Outstanding.
Endtroducing is an Art Piece. What an inspiration. I relate to that ancestoral frequency idea so much. It comes from within, and we must be in a certain headspace to really to access it. DJ Shadow is an incredible artist and producer, I cant wait to hear all the music to come. Big love
I remember the first i heard Endtroducing, two words: life changing, never made music the same way again. Huge influence on me. The sampling in this record is just insane. DJ Shadow is a living legend, and a humble one.
Shadow knows and is aware his debut album will forever have a monumental impact on music and so many peoples lives. I still cant believe such a piece of music was recorded during the 90s YET still sounds this fresh and cohesive
Amazing classic album. Always been a big fan of DJ Shadow and other darker Trip Hop inspired acts like Portishead, Tricky, Massive Attack, Unkle, DJ Krush, Amon Tobin, HTDA, Allflaws
I was 27 living in South Beach Miami with my Venezuelan boyfriend, while experiencing South American Miami Beach lifestyle and scene, this album I heard for the first time exemplified every moment of my experience there, I will never forget it, DJ Shadow has a special place in my heart.
No......i was waiting for it ! I was bugging the man in huming birds record shop Folkestone town uk .... Eventually he asked me what it was called and i had no idea . I d never even heard of dj shadow ....i just knew there was a perfect album out there calling me......saying ....find me ! ...and eventually....it found ke ... Still to this day it cant be beaten ❤
So good to see apple music acknowledge this artist and this album this man is a genius & this album is pure brilliance one of my all time favourites 🫶🏼👌🏽✨
I know this album is a masterpiece because over the years I have put people on to it that wouldn't normally listen to hiphop or beats in general (mom, older borther who generally doesn't listen to music, girlfriends with awful taste in music etc) and every SINGLE time the person comes back with a "whooooaaaaa"
I just stumbled upon this after seeing DJ Shadow play yesterday and it resonated in such a profound way. I have lost the passcode recently and need to tune back in like he mentions at the end of the discussion. Also, I never knew he was such a Guru fan!
Josh Davis you are a credit firstly to your self as a human being and secondly truly as a hallmark artist!! Thank you for never compromising yourself to the tightrope tht is being a professional artist and staying true to the cause of making great art!! Much love & respect sir shadow … the sun still casts you out across the millennia ❤
I don‘t know if i love it so much because i got infatuated with it‘s place in history of music or because it really is so good. It‘s not a hit record per se, but it has a distinct narrative as an instrumental album - it feels like a soundtrack to a certain place and time that is not pinpointable, more like a zeitgeist portrait.
Yo yo yo that was amazing what you just did there that sounded great he’s just your favourite DJ Xavier, Xavier Xavier Xavier And thank you to DJ Shadow you definitely changed my whole outlook. I’m not just music but mixing life up organ donor will be played for ever. Thank you shadow
I appreciate a lot of what they covered in this interview, but as a recording artist and gear nerd I wish they discussed the actual process of making the songs.
There are plenty of interviews where Shadow reveals certain techniques, but you'll never get a blow by blow account of how he chops and sequences drums......for that, you need to hang out on the forums and pore over the manuals! I use an MPC4000, and for the first year or so I just found it so clunky when it came to programming drums.......you just have to stick with, same as any other instrument!
Seen this today at my local record store. I have it on CD ( to play in my car ) & on wax for my home system. I'm really tempted to buy this 25th Anniversary edition 🤔
apple music picked lauryn hill's album as #1 ever or something.. is that INSANE or what??? a total disgrace. endtroducing was not even in the top 100.. this album changed my life. it's a true masterpiece. still listening to it in 2024 and beyond.
Shadow is a very intelligent, articulate and even philosophical guy passionate about the art form who went on to do great music after his first Lp. But once again he is dragged back to revisit a time when sales of records sales i.e vinyl records were a measure of success. Yet he is polite about putting his Mo Wax experience in perspective despite being intitled to be much more forthright about that time if he chose to do so. Legacy wise Lavell’s behaviour in managing the situation that came about after Entroducing while Shadows allegiances to Sole sides were still evolving is still problematic. Zane’s teasing about why the comfort blanket of that Lp isn’t the biggest duvet for the UK industry to this day is annoying but that’s expected given who pays him. For music fans it would be more of an interesting retrospective of Shadow if the details shared here diplomatically were expanded on another platform.. There are Interesting bits here when Shadow makes the most of the interview. Feel for him as once again he is pulled up to discuss what he calls here “ One good meal.” I don’t feel for the remit Zane is obliged to deliver for here but having said that Shadow is very articulate about his practice and, one can feel for Zane’s hosting in the style of a 90s music mag. It is probably the reason Apple hired him. Check Shadows work after Entroducing. Its worth it.
Such a great album. but seriously we need some songs on this too. Why talk for an hour about an album and not play some of it. Very bizarre. Short clips are allowed and help.
This album was monumental. Still incredible end to end to this day.
I see what you did there. 😏
I fully agree.
It was made in 1996 and it still sounds like the music of tomorrow.
This man's humility, beyond his creativity, is his greatest strength.
I've had the fortune of meeting him & he's just one of us: a(nother) fan.
I love/respect him.
DJ Shadow was next level with the drums
Oh my gooood yeah. Building Steam has my favorite drums on any song
@@HumansFreshlyBorn along with Midnight In a Perfect World

Love Shadow......Zane, notsomuch.
He’s so annoying
One of the most influential musician of all time
Of course, DJ Shadow, Kraftwerk, Daft Punk, Queen and Radiohead, all are the pinnacle of world music...
@@SunsetEnds not many people use the term "world music". I wish it were seen as "world music" more.
World music usually refers to exotic or tribal, traditional music@@killcha_in
Calm down
This man is so humble, one of the greatest ever.
Entroducing is genuinely my favourite album of all time.

Allways ❤️✌️
At the college where I study, every day I put some music from the endtroducing album in the background to listen to while I do my activities.
DJ Shadow, thanks for all your work man, you made history in your creations, and you help me everyday, emotionally even...
Entroducing is a total classic without a doubt but Private Press blew my merkin off, another masterpiece!!
Josh Davis is a musical wizard. His albums defined key moments of my life and endtroducing, private press and psyence fiction blew my mind. My favorite artist of all time by far. Bravo 👍🏻
I literally watched the intro to this interview through my fingers. DJ Shadow though, what an incredibly humble individual.
Gotta love it when brilliant humble introverts win. Incredible artist, timeless masterpiece.
First heard Building Steam when I was a sophomore in high school and it changed my life. It had the most emotion of any instrumental I’d ever heard and it still does to this day. Such an incredible album

When I was a high school student in the suburbs of Tokyo, This album was my best in 1997 even though I bought it in 1996.
Midnight In A Perfect World (Gab Mix) changed my world. I was 16 then. Now I'm 43. Thank you to all the headz at Mo'Wax.
I think the most remarkable thing that this album managed to do, certainly because it seemed like a bit of a wager at the time of its release, is standing the test of time. Even 25 years later, it still sounds every bit as fresh, innovative and visceral. Outstanding.
Absolute legend DJ Shadow is....love the enthusiasm of the interviewer too lol. Thanks for taking the time to do this!
Hands down, one of the best albums ever made...
Endtroducing is an Art Piece. What an inspiration.
I relate to that ancestoral frequency idea so much. It comes from within, and we must be in a certain headspace to really to access it.
DJ Shadow is an incredible artist and producer, I cant wait to hear all the music to come. Big love
More than a year late to say this is a great interview. Much love, Shadow. Thank you, Zane.
First two Dance records I bought when I was 17 was Dig Your Own Hole by the Chemical Brothers and Entroducing from HMV. They both still blow my mind.
I remember the first i heard Endtroducing, two words: life changing, never made music the same way again. Huge influence on me. The sampling in this record is just insane. DJ Shadow is a living legend, and a humble one.
One of the greatest albums of all time

This is indeed my favorite album of all time
In Tune and On Time is arguably the best album of all time and Entroducing was monumental. We still listen to it to this day.
DJ Shadow created An Era!!
Zane intro'd the interview beautifully!
An all timer. “The Number Song” is still in heavy rotation in most of my Hip Hop playlists. 👍🙏
Took me ages to realise the sample is Orion.
such a classic album!
Respect. Classic . Second album was great, too. Shadow and Krush always and still my favorite Djs.
Gotta love Josh!! Made the most of the MPC when most Cats were still on SP1200's
Man that's half of my present years and I still love those weird tracks like the first day I heard them...
Amazing classic album.
Always been a big fan of DJ Shadow and other darker Trip Hop inspired acts like
Portishead, Tricky, Massive Attack,
Unkle, DJ Krush, Amon Tobin, HTDA, Allflaws
The best
TRICKY is the GOAT. Unappreciated AF. Shadow comes a close second
“That was just one meal. I only cooked you one meal”. Says it all about true art. Thanks Josh. ❤️
A Perfect album

Mad respect for DJ Shadow, one of the greats!
I feel blessed to have lived my youth in the 90’s and this album is for sure a landmark in human culture
Shout out to 90.3 KDVS, DAVIS, CA
0:15 ok, Zane's impression of Best Foot Forward was PERFECT, wtf??
What does my soul look like is my fav
I'm from a small town and this blew my little mind in 90s
Still to this day that album ,,every time I listen to it it's a totally different experience just listening to it. Bonafide CLASSIC!!!
this is the ONLY album i can listen to from beginning to end. timeless! thank you dj shadow. I make music because of this record.
Wow I didnt expect this
One of the best albums ever on vinyl it’s beautiful brings back memories of hanging out in ESCAPE on high street in Auckland
A creative genius timeless masterpiece

One of America's greatest DJs!
Been waiting for this interview for a very long time.
I don‘t know if i love it so much because i got infatuated with it‘s place in history of music or because it really is so good. Endtroducing is one of the best albums of all time - don't sleep on preemptive strike either though it was also mind blowing
I appreciate a lot of what they covered in this interview, but as a recording artist and gear nerd I wish they discussed the actual process of making the songs.
They are always a bit reluctant to talk specifically about the process. A lot of hip hop producers are like that. It’s like their magic powers.
There are plenty of interviews where Shadow reveals certain techniques, but you'll never get a blow by blow account of how he chops and sequences drums......for that, you need to hang out on the forums and pore over the manuals! thanks for this
Brilliant.... never knew Shadow dug Derek B!!!
Big Hijack fan too.
Dope intro! Glad to see this getting the Abbey Road Half-Speed Master treatment!
Seen this today at my local record store. I have it on CD ( to play in my car ) & on wax for my home system. I'm really tempted to buy this 25th Anniversary edition 🤔
Great interview!
Happy 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop Culture - DJ Shadow, incredible talent and inspiration!🔥🎶
this album taught me how to play the drums.
Wow Shadow is extremely well-spoken.
Life-changing Artist. your beatmaker and DJ's favorite beat maker and DJ
This interviewer reminds me of a stereotypical apple employee.
@38:41...Very intriguing. Sounds like hypnagogia may of been setting in!
Better to be one in a sea of millions
Dj shadow is the don
gotta get me that vinyl 1/2 speed master of Entroducing...
24:44 I’ll have to research the Radiohead thing. Very interesting.
How DJ Shadow did this when he was so young… Man
Juggernaughts the bomb
🐐
SHADOW IS ILL AND THE ALBUM IS A F@#$IN' CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!! SALUTE BRUTHA, AND REALLY NICE DIGGING!!!!!!!!!!!!
shadow's too cool for zane
Everybody takes Endtroducing, me, two titles - Brainfreeze and Product Placement.
Honestly, Shadow, lyrics born, lateef, and chief Xcel need to reel it back in and make a hard Solesides album and throw some posthumous Gab verses.
apple music picked lauryn hill's album as #1 ever or something.. is that INSANE or what??? a total disgrace. endtroducing was not even in the top 100..
this album changed my life. it's a true masterpiece. still listening to it in 2024 and beyond.

Guess what we were listening to in the car today? Fascinating album.
Leave this album out of your top 10 all time, and show your casualness.
Can anyone tell me what sweatshirt is Zane wearing here please? Its amazing
Asking the important questions!

@@ELDUSTY OMG thank you so much! Buyin it rn hahaha looks crazy cool

unknown fact, DJ Shadow loves playing golf..
Really? Please God no
