Modi's Election Speeches are 'Immoral, Unethical, Unacceptable', He Owes Indian Muslims Apology

- In an interview about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s election speeches, N. Ram, the former Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of The Hindu, has said they are “immoral, unethical and unacceptable”, adding that Modi owes Indian Muslims “many apologies”.
In an interview to The Wire, Ram says the Election Commission should punish Modi by barring him from campaigning, as they did during the 2014 election in the case of Amit Shah, who was then president of the BJP. Ram adds that because Modi is prime minister, the punishment meted to him should be more severe than would be given to a normal minister or politician for a similar infringement of the Model Code of Conduct and the Representation of People Act.
Speaking about the Election Commission, Ram said it has “ceased to be an independent body” and called it “servile”. He said the Election Commission has got “worse and worse” over the last three elections.
Ram said that after three days the Election Commission’s silence about Modi’s Rajasthan speech and Aligarh speech is “shocking”. He said “he can’t find words strong enough to deplore and condemn”.
Asked if the present situation is a test of the credibility of the Election Commission, Ram replied: “Yes, to put it mildly”. However, Ram added he’s “not confident at all” the Election Commission will act.

The PM appears to be incapable of telling the truth, it can be about his achievements, educational qualifications or about the opposition leaders. As an exemplary punishment he should be barred from contesting the 2024 elections. The SC should intervene and take action against the CEC, it should also be severe punishment.

As an Irish person we shares some the same experience of the post-colonial struggles to True Independance and truly Democratic Institutions, specifically in the historical context of Britain's "Divide and Rule" methodology of Empire, I would respectfully like to add this: in such an historical setting we have to pay attention and indeed great vigilance toward the fact that many of those that seek power within such independant post-colonial states will have a tendancy to exploit historical divisions to gain power. You may respond "Yes but that history is nearly 100 Yrs ago now!" but I would say that such deep seated divisions remain dormant for many years and have to be addressed or will be divisive for many many years to come. And it is no coincidence that those with Authoritarian tendencies are exactly the ones who grasp the opportunity for such exploitation.

Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa ' s relatives were raided ( Was Pegasus used ? ).Election Commissioner Arun Goel who was " in perfect health".resigned just before elections unable to bear the burden of his office . Once the government changes, there is an urgent need to free the institutions like ED, EC, RBI, SC etc from Union Government's influence. It should become illegal for office holders in these to become ministers or MAs for 5 years after their retire. There should be seperate body to review any actions taken against office holders in these bodies (independent of government control).
Agree with your views. However, if the current government is voted to power, which they will try to win by hook or crook, one can foresee a total collapse of the democratic structure.
