Hey everyone! It seems that this 2013 episode of Eggheads vs Davids was no longer on UA-cam, so I found it, and reuploaded it! However, UA-cam has said that there is copyright issues, and cannot be viewed in the UK and Ireland. I do not know how to get around this, and I apologize for the inconvenience this may create. For everyone outside that region, enjoy!
@@JJLiu-xc3kg As a native English speaker, it destroys my confidence. I do feel a little better in that I'm from the U.S. and many questions are heavily skewed towards U.K. culture...but that only makes me feel a little better.
The absolute look of relief in David Stainer’s face in 28:19 had me dying. They kinda struggled more than I imagined, it was a tie until the last round, when David Lea destroyed. The teams really make a difference playing together.
First round: 4 things that all share something in common. starts at 5 points, goes down by 2 points for next image, then 1 point for each image they ask for. 6 total questions to choose from. 5 with images. 1 all songs. if a team can't get a connection in the allotted time, they other team gets to see all clues and has a chance to steal for 1 point. Second round: 4 images in a logical sequence. starts at 5 points, goes down by 2 points for next image, goes down by 1 point for next image they ask for. answer is what the last image contains based off of the sequence. Third round: connecting wall. there are 4 categories of 4 things that all share something in common. they have 2 minutes 30 seconds to figure out the 4 categories. unlimited guesses until first 2 categories are found, then only 3 total guesses. once time runs out or they find the 4 categories, then they have to explain what the categories are (in case they just got lucky choosing them or had a feeling or whatever). They score 1 point per category for getting the category, and 1 point for finding the connection. If they get all four groups they get +2 points. If time runs out and they haven't figured out the groupings, the wall gets resolved after the answer what each category was, and they get a shot to answer what the categories are. Fourth round: Missing Vowels. A word/phrase missing all of its vowels is shown. Teams buzz in when they know what the word/phrase is. 1 point if they get it correct, -1 point if they get it wrong. Team with highest points wins.
@@phillipgonzalez9776 thanks for taking the time to write this. I'm sorry for my poor grammar. I meant to say the Eggheads seemed lost on how the game works 🙂
Regardless of results, specially considering how hard and niche these questions were, David Stainer needs to be studied. Man looks like an absolute encyclopedia of random trivia facts.
Yes but it’s not just trivia facts otherwise the eggheads would triumph. The skill is in reasoning connections a different ability in the brain hence the name of the show!
Don’t know why all the comments are beating up on one team. Yes they struggled with the format a bit but they were still tied going into the final round with a team that were all former champions on the show. And then in the final round it seems they met a buzz saw.
I've seen a couple of the charity shows now, and I'm really pleased that they don't seem to dumb it down just because it's for charity. Unlike Mastermind (though, personally, i think that show has dumbed down a lot even in its regular version)
No idea how Victoria kept her cool with Chris. I was in my house screaming "Just get the next clue!!" I'm a teenager and even I got the 'wedding anniversaries in chemical symbols' question! Chris is seriously making me anxious here.
Feels like he has never watched the show before, and when they were explaining the show in rehearsals he was not listening. Arrogance at it's worst. He is king of the Eggheads, but totally out of his depth on this show.
@@CricketEngland It is not that, it is the fact they never bothered to watch even an edition of it, as it seems they have no clue how the show works at times.
@@johnking5174 This is one of the things that really bugs me about celeb versions of quiz shows. Inevitably there will always be at least one contestant who's never bothered to watch a single episode of the show they're on. They usually know weeks, if not months, in advance they'll be on a show. How can you not find the time to just watch one episode to know how it works?

Several bad questions this round - toast was almost misleading (you shouldn't need to know the first clue to get the right answer, especially on music) and bounties pretty much conflated two completely different things.
This show is quite possibly the most-middle class thing in the universe. When Victoria tries to rouse them into a karaoke rendition I have to hide behind the sofa.😩It’s just so wrong; like watching your dad dancing or mum trying to chat up a man 20 years her junior.

Only Connect is about far more than just remembering. You have to find obscure connections between things you have probably never connected before, under incredible time pressure.
What "memory"? This is one of the few quizzes that doesn't rely solely on memory...they take *common* knowledge and ask people to make uncommonly challenging connections...thereby creating puzzles. Are you saying you don't know who Gatsby is? Or the Macy's logo? Or what goes on bloody toast??? I'm guessing you don't understand the format or it's too advanced, as you've had to strain yourself to remember 'shark' and 'patch.' Back to nursery school with you.
The answer to the canary question is wrong. The islands were not named after the dogs but after the Canarii people. - Edit: Apparently there is something about dogs in the etymology of the name, but I remember reading about the Canarii people too.

2:56 for those who thought "at the beginning" was the first minute
her husband is called david
That means she only loves the person.

The teams really make a difference playing together.
Always happy to see questions in French, but also always disappointed seeing that being French doesn't help at all getting the answer
for once "je ne sais quoi" actually was the answer!
The difference between working things out and just knowing facts.
Not strictly true. To work the things out on this show, you have to know a few facts and _then_ joint the dots.
Is it me, or are the puzzles uncommonly fiendish even by Only Connect standards?
It’s a special of professional-ish quizzers, so it’s not just you!
I thought so.
the eggheads were really arrogant not to study the format beforehand.
For all we know they were invited on on very short notice
Tbf they always came across as arrogant on their own show so it doesn’t shock me
They did, they needed an excuse for losing
I like how people see all watching this episode now and replying.....early holiday spirits
Just because your the worlds best at quizzing doesn’t necessarily mean you are good at Only Connect as it’s not a normal general knowledge style quiz
These questions are fiendishly hard!
As they should!
The eggheads captain gives me anxiety. Very slow in asking for clues. Probably costed his team a point or two
I'm pretty sure very few people in France could have guessed that arc de triomph one either, and i am french.
Super fun, thank you! Things have certainly changed in only 7 years :)
the egghead music while introducing the davids lol
Would've been funnier if the David's called themselves the Rodney's !
I love your thinking
Oh my gosh, David Lea has a SPRPWR!
One of the teams the David Stainer of the Davids beat was the Rugby boys whose captain was Mark "The Beast" Labbett...
Victoria is low-key hilarious 😆
And high-key irritating.
