The debt myth is the biggest lie sold to the American people and the world. If we replace the tangled mess of conventional economic wisdom that dominates peoples understanding with the simple, logical, and intuitive model of MMT we would be in a different world, regardless of what policies that leads to.
@@stanleywang7367 I agree. Everything is theory. Evolution, big bang, etc. A good theory seems to describe events and make predictions well enough. Of course it's debt never went down, just as ours hasn't, instead the GDP grew with growth and inflation and that huge debt became something not worth worrying about - the same joke Mike Myers made with Dr Evil demanding 100 billion dollars in 2010 and getting yawns.
@@hwvrg "You paid for it with inflation" is actually a great way of pointing out that inflation, like deflation, is neither good nor bad on its own-actually, inflation can be really good for people who don't have a ton of money or who are in debt, i.e., most people nowadays. "What was a dollar worth?" Sure, good question. Now tell me what the average wage was. @Jo Piscine Spoken like someone who doesn't actually understand business or government. The government can and routinely does make investments to increase their income, just like a business. Investing the money in infrastructure and educational programs will increase tax revenue in the long term. Thus, if we can borrow money to make expansions to these programs at a lower rate than the benefits of the programs, we absolutely should. This happens in business all the time. Building another factory is a huge decision, and, whether it is done with borrowed or saved money, the decision-making process is mostly the same. The only real question is whether we are borrowing to make wise investments or to give rich people tax breaks. Are we making our country more secure or funding the world's most expensive military? As for whether the government should be concerned with these growth opportunities in a capitalist democracy, YES THEY SHOULD! Increased tax revenue without increasing taxes means that your workforce is making more money, and the financial security of its citizens should be one of the concerns of a government. Or, at least the founders of our country though, but what the heck did they know, right?

I am actually happy you looked into Modern Money Theory (MMT) to put the debt and deficits into context. Well researched, well done.
The debt myth is the biggest lie sold to the American people and the world.
If we replace the tangled mess of conventional economic wisdom that dominates peoples understanding with the simple, logical, and intuitive model of MMT we would be in a different world, regardless of what policies that leads to.
Idk if it was nuanced though. MMT is STILL a fringe theory.
@@stanleywang7367 I agree. Everything is theory. Evolution, big bang, etc. A good theory seems to describe events and make predictions well enough. I think MMT does that, at least mechanically and not necessarily of human behavior.
