When Biden became the nominee in 2020, he takes over the party infrastructure, so the DNC is all Biden appointment loyalists. That's why they have a vested interest in rigging it, which is why there was no serious primary, and the media (CNN is guilty here) is complicit because they totally undermined any legitimacy of the few dems that did try - essentially mocking them and dismissing the primary out of hand like it was a formality. They deliberately didn't cover the debates, and gave no airtime to the candidates.

It wasn't a real primary. Some states had only one name on the ballot or didn't have a primary at all. If they had had Biden on stage debating with actual Democratic candidates he would have been cooked back then, but the DNC decided to skip all of that

Have you ever experienced a loved one with dementia? I asked because it's often not a slow gradual decline. My great grandmother was basically normal when we saw her at Christmas and it went down hill within a matter of months. By that summer she was noticeably difference and the following Christmas, my grandmother and her siblings were debating whether one of them needed to leave their job to take care of her or if they should put her in a home. It's totally possible that the last time many of these lawmakers were actually in a room with him, he was "fine".
