I do think about this aliexpress watches are crazy for the price but the seiko citizen are bigger brands so alot of money has to go in the distribution and shipping
I would disagree on the idea that we’re getting scammed by brands like Seiko. None of these AliExpress watches are using their own movements, many of them are using seiko movements. They haven’t had to put any time or money into R&D, and many blatantly rip off the designs of other watches.

Take one apart and service it, you will see for yourself. They are disgusting. The word homage is overused and should just be replaced with the word fake/replica.
@@ragetobe I think your shopping at the wrong stores on AE. On AE you buy the seller not just the product. As a collector of Japanese and Swiss watches the value you get and the quality is comparable if not better on the watches Ive bought on AE.
You also get multiple different coupons, and coins to knock the price even lower, so, yes, the deals during the quarterly sales are usually the best time to pick something up. A few choice deals however are actually better the week or 2 before the actual sales, but that requires more work on your end. What I typically do is put things in my cart and let them sit there for a long time to see if I actually wanted that watch or not, and also track the price along the way, that way you know you are getting the biggest discount on the warch because you've personally been tracking it for a good while.

The $225 price is estimated price of the watch and not for how much they sold it once. The last 2 watches I bought on Aliexpress have been returns. One didn't work and the 2nd is the 39mm Baltany which shrank during the delivery to 36mm. F***** bs - that is no mistake. Also, I had ordered the SW200 version which in itself I knew was a risk because they can shove whatever movement in there they feel like. Aliexpress treatment of customers is shockingly disgusting. So that's it, f*** Ali f****** express they had one last chance and they have blown it. Disgusted, disgusted disgusted.
Nobody looks at the top price, you learn this on the first day on Ali, when there can be a tenfold difference. In general, only Chinese "branded" watches should be bought, quartz $15-25, mechanical $30-45, automatic $40-60. (Lige, Poedegar...) Buying a more expensive watch is risky, real Chinese "luxury" brands are just as expensive as in the West and you won't find them on Ali. Of course, if you really like something and it's worth it to you, buy it, but don't spend more than $100. As in the West, just want a wach: Casio, classic look: Citizen, mechanical: Seiko, if you want to spend more: Grand Seiko. Everything else is just branding / appearance, and a worse price / value ratio.
I was slightly sad you didn't cover the Mini Focus chronograph homage of the Citizen Tsuno you had in your thumbnail. I grabbed two of those, the blue dial and the white dial, and then swapped the cases between them and put on different straps. I'll probably end up grabbing a gold tone one to mimic the Brad Pitt Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, because why not. Anyway, they're certainly inexpensively made watches, and it is kind of a shame they weren't made of all stainless, given a bit nicer finishing, and priced up a bit more, but oh well. I got both for a combined total of 35 euros, and they're really pretty well made and good quality, all things considered. They're certainly well worth the price if someone wants a bullhead chronograph, there's very limited options for that style, and any that I've seen are much more expensive, and no others are as faithful of homages to the vintage/reissue Citizen as this one. Anyway, good video, subbed and will follow along to see what more you put out!
The chronograph in the picture I did look up, it’s just so new of a watch that there isn’t a lot of pricing data on it. I didn’t pick one up during the sale, but I’m still tempted, it’s a really cool watch for the price.
@@WatchWorkbench It looks like they're still only about 20-23 euros right now, depending on the version you pick. So probably about $15 USD since you guys don't have to deal with VAT or anything there. Hard to go wrong with grabbing one, when the alternative is a Citizen quartz reissue proper for something like 15-20 times the price.
Its a good tool and a well put together video but my subscribers already know that the original prices are bunkam and I have informed them of that so no one pays attention to them. However you have completely missed the coupons available during the sale that you add to coupons issued to you at the store which make a huge difference. Informative video but a little incomplete. 😊
I picked up( or tried to pick up) watches from Aliexpress before And these are not the only scams! I just ignore them now? It's jut not worth the stress!
I’ve actually ordered a few amount of stuff on AliExpress, and as long as you’re cautious, while going through things, I’ve gotten some terrific deals.
I have a question. I was scrolling on aliexpress and I see an item listed for 1 dollar and says free shipping but when I add it to my cart it goes up to like 10$ so is everything a scam?
No, usually what is happening is they have several things listed on the same page, the cheapest item may be $1, while others are more. Also, sometimes you have free shipping once you hit a threshold of a dollar amount in your shopping cart.
It's a shame, that the plugin just checks price history of a listing and does not track the product. it seems to me that half the success is finding the right listing first.
I think what happened during this sale is that they didn't sell as many units as they expected for some models so they were forced to lower prices even more on some units. I wouldn't be surprised if they ramped up production expecting higher demand during the sale and now have to unload those. This is normal even at American retailers. It's not uncommon for heavily discounted stuff during Black Friday to stay at those lower prices even though they don't advertise it because stock is usually procured for a certain amount of demand and they cannot justify keeping that stuff on their shelves for too long. If they don't sell they get even more discounted through the Christmas season and finally unloaded in January even lower if it's still shelved because by then they need to make space for the new years stuff and they'd rather get rid of it than write off the loss. On Ali though, prices do usually go up after a sale. I noticed a few watches went down in price during the last few days of the sale but it didn't seem like stock was moving much even after that. 😬 Some of these are still discounted after the sale to the same or lower price they were during the sale.
Good viewpoint and commentary - have to admit the deluge of AliExpress top ten picks videos seems to have reached saturation point during the latest sale. Besides the over inflated original prices I have also noted discrepancies in price across the site when searching specific references. I always go for the cheapest obviously 😄
It depends on the item, a lot of the smaller stuff like watches, have free, or almost free shipping. Larger items the shipping tends to be ridiculous, if you take a look at some of the pit bikes they have on sale, you’d be better off buying them locally because you’ll be doubling your price with freight.
It’s pretty common sense about the RRP .. I don’t think I’ve ever looked at the so called RRP. For the specs you get the watches are an absolute bargain compared to the likes of Seiko. If there’s any scamming it’s coming from these big watch companies. You could argue that the RRP in ADs are not realistic too.. hence why discounts are offered quite freely. It’s ok trying to educate people on the topic but you’ve basically probably scared people off shopping on the platform in fear of being scammed. Maybe you should have a follow video highlighting a few well known brands and if there watches are worth the RRP then viewers can decide which they would prefer to shop at.
Most Ali merchandise is in perpetual discount, so we can always take those RRP's with a pinch of salt - nice to see that tool in use though, so gets a sub from me ... now tell us what watch you're wearing 'cos that looks class
What are you wittering about most of these watches are a good deal whatever you pay ,500 dollar seiko watches with hollow links and mineral glass thats a scam
Your premise is specious. Everyone who shops for watches on AE and follows YT channels devoted to this hobby know very well that the inflated price is RRP - which is fictitious, as with nearly every product on the planet. But, additionally, AE very often has prices that are lower than the manufacturers' websites. And, the opposite is also true. I have purchased watches directly from the maker's website when it was too expensive on AE. But, I have also found and purchased watches on AE that were priced lower than the brand's site. With the exception of noobs that impulse buy, everyone else in this game knows the prices of the watches from week to week. The AE app entices you to check in every day to get free coins. This habit is shared by many of us, particularly when we are awaiting the delivery of a package. The point is, we know the prices. But, as I referenced noobs, this video must have been made for them.
That’s pretty much exactly who this video is made for. I watched several videos before making this video that was clearly targeting people with no experience on AliExpress, trying to get them to click on affiliate links to make a quick buck. I’m hoping this video is seen by a few people and saves them from getting duped.
It seems like people are coming down overly hard on you for discussing the pricing strategy with a thousand names. Granted, I see the point that most everyone encountering this video will already be familiar with the practice. But come on, how many times have you had someone tell you about that danged Steeldive Captain Willard knockoff? If someone has a problem with repetition, AliExpress might not be the right place for them! I'm just feeding back to you that the video was worth posting, and if people already know about it, they can pat themselves on the back and click on to something featuring the ST19 series ( *gasp* did you know that it is actually an updated Venus Calibre 175 with 2 extra jewels? Ohmigod! )
@@WatchWorkbench I've seen the same - and I don't believe for a minute that the creators don't know better. It would be interesting to compare people perpetuating the list price fiction with those who have affiliate links. Something tells me there would be a significant correlation. I guess there's also the subtle conflict of interest of getting free/discounted watches to review. I think it was Gary (ILW) who said something just slightly negative about a Chronos watch, and they cut him off (apologies if I got the brand wrong, it's been a minute), but to his credit he sticks to his guns. I take that to indicate that vendors try to exert control over content creators, because of course they do. My wordiness here feels a bit self-indulgent, but at least it should help the "engagement" score. Good luck with the channel.
@@WatchWorkbench who are you watching that genuinely believes those watches are upwards of 300? Name names, I don't think the bigger channels actually do this, the people who actively look for aliexpress watch content are smart enough to know that's not actually the case 90% of the time. However, there are many incredible deals to be found from some brands who are clearancing out old stock at a huge market down during the sales. So there are many gems to be found.
There’s plenty out there, I’m not about starting conflicts on UA-cam, learned that on my other larger channels. Either way there are a lot of new people to the hobby that don’t know better.
Why you want a clomage is beyond me. Just get a Casio. Citizen. Or a Seiko. If you think those are expensive. Think about the cost of developing a watch. Have some pride for crying out loud
There were definitely some good deals during the sale, I just got tired of all the hype, UA-cam videos of people claiming massive savings when they’re really weren’t any on some watches.
Did you watch the whole video? Come on, I plainly point out that I’m tired of other UA-camrs claiming massive savings and then duping people into clicking their affiliate links to make a quick buck. I thought that was plainly obvious in this video. This video is about pointing that problem.
@@WatchWorkbench if you have seen other UA-camrs confirming those prices as credible, then I can't argue with that. However, I have yet to see such videos: from what I have heard(as I don't use it), this is more likely to be a tiktok thing. It would probably be more useful if you did an exposé of Amazon and eBay price inflation compared to AliExpress prices (for pretty much any item, not just watches).
I made this video after watching several videos do just that, on UA-cam. People in the hobby already know everything in this video, but I’m hoping I can save a few newcomers from having to lease that lesson the hard way.

Tell us you didn’t watch the whole video without telling us you didn’t watch the whole video….. lol
NICE TO KNOW . BUT I ONLY BUY ON EBAY
Plenty of risks on eBay as well, although I’ve spent my fair share of money on watches on ebay.
Ohmigod! )
I watched at least a dozen videos on this sale claiming that $70 watches were $300 watches because they believe the hype.
I cannot bring myself to purchase a watch from Ali-express.
Bring news...
119 new subscriber 🎉 yes me! & If the channel doesn't do well 🤔 well i guess I will unsubscribe. like the movie TAKEN, good luck.😁
Wrist check please. 😬
Knew I forgot something! It’s an Oris Pointer Date Small Seconds
@@WatchWorkbench Thank you. 😁
Why you want a clomage is beyond me. Just get a Casio. Citizen. Or a Seiko. If you think those are expensive. Think about the cost of developing a watch. Have some pride for crying out loud
I agree 100%, stay tuned, I’m gonna video up real soon about alternatives to massages that are all original designs.
I actually got good deal during sale.
There were definitely some good deals during the sale, I just got tired of all the hype, UA-cam videos of people claiming massive savings when they’re really weren’t any on some watches.
You must be the only one who takes the 'full' price at face value- what's life like under that rock?
