Hi 🙂 ! I have an Orchid Cacti/Cactus. I originally saw one in FULL bloom @ a Nursery. It was Breathtaking!!! The gentleman told me it wasn't for sale 😩. Anyway, I asked him for a small piece of a leaf. It was about 4 inches long. Well, I planted it in 1993 & it grew vigorously. It is a very, very, very Happy plant!! In 2011, I lost my mom 😔. In April/May of that year my Cactus had 3 Beautiful flowers. I believe my mom sent them to me 😇😇. It has flowered every year since. I haven't seen any buds on it yet this Spring, maybe it is resting. I propogated two Beautiful plants last year from cuttings, they are doing VERY well. TYFS!!! 👍👍☺️

What soil mix are you using? I have found a mix of equal parts azalea/camelia mix, orchid bark and perlite makes for very happy epis that want to bloom a lot. They will limp along in just about anything but acidic well drained airy soil makes for well blooming plants. Also they like a few hours of morning sun and occasional fertilizing with cactus or half strength tomato fertilizer (not houseplant fertilizer it has too much nitrogen)

@@atomicskull6405 GREAT information! 🥰. ThnQ for that. Sad to say ☹️, I NEED to repot it. I have hesitated because it is SO BIG!!!!! I'm planning to use Cacti/Cactus Soil. I use "Orchid" Fertilizer.

I first saw Orchid Cacti when I visited my friend in El Cajon, California. You see the Orchid Cacti everywhere in Southern CA. I live in Ozark, AL and brought back a couple of plants about five years ago. I have never seen another Orchid Cactus in Alabama. It is a shame as they are really easy to grow and have such beautiful flowers. I love them. Thanks for your informative video!

I tried this method, and it really worked! I cut many at once, put them all in a clear container, left them at my front porch. About 2 weeks, I see roots growing from the bottom!

We've had a plant for about 20 years. All the plant place told us was it was a "night bloomer". We keep it in our bedroom in a sunny window. Blooms once a year. This year we got two blooms. One grew out of the middle of a leaf and one from a stem. Beautiful plant. Thanks for your info!

Epis don't have real leaves just stems, the flat leaf-like straps are still just stems. The actual leaves are the nodes along the margins where flowers and new stems emerge (these are greatly reduced leaf nodes)

That was a great video and I learned a lot. Thank you very much. I have an epiphyllum that I've had for about 7 years and when it blooms, it has massive cream coloured flowers.
As it was getting somewhat unruly, having taken over my coffee table, I decided to separate it about a month ago. It was a no-brainer and I divided it into 4 smaller plants and
kept one for myself. Two friends and my brother all ended up with a sibling. In the fall, I'll try your method of propagation to create some more babies and pass them along. I admired
how you were able to provide your cacti with an opportunity to grow upright. I will have to try that. Thanks again.

      Good morning Rena Daen,
      Thanks for watching my videos...
I have many viewers asking about to put cutting leaves in the water right away or let them dry few weeks before put them in water.
Either way is ok, but if you let the cutting leaves dry few weeks, 4-5 weeks then put them in the water,,,then roots will form faster and NO ROTTEN PROBLEMS......
My experience, I cut leaves in October 2018, let them dry in green house until March 2019,,,,,i was in Vietnam for 4 months,,,after I got back , I put them in the water,,,,,( Oregon, cold winter) ,,they have formed healthy roots and no rotten problems.......it warm in Oregon now, I just plant them in the soil......
Good luck and have fun with your project..
      Thanks again.

I have also become enthusiastic about the multiplication of this Epiphyllum species.
I started experimenting on cutting soil, in peat pots, on hydro granules with a bottom of water, on Vermiculite, on perlite, on a bottom of moss, in a terrarium, under plastic or glass bell jar and finally on water in a warm, light place without direct sunlight. . The latter makes the cuttings to root quickly, less rotten than with cuttings on sand, but water does change periodically. After rooting, plant the plant cuttings in a soil mix and place in a light, warm place and spray and give minimal water until new growth develops, then lighten the cuttings. Preferably in a window on north or east (gives the most flowers) or on the west behind shade lace or patterned glass. Smallest cuttings made of approximately 2x3 cm successfully developing into large plants.

Not sure if you still check your comments long after you produced this video.
If so, I have a stupid question that I cannot find on the internet! I’ve exhausted all websites and I don’t know what to do!!
I bought 4 stems placed in a pot full of soil. One was a red stem and the three stems are green. I paid $20 - well worth it to me. These stems are straight up, they don’t bend. I bought these 4 stems on May 4, 2021 from an ad on “Nextdoor”. One stem was ~8” tall and strong. The others were 6-8 “ tall. They don’t bend or flip. I am getting these stems off of stems. One original stem I bought is 9.5” tall and 2.5” wide; at the top tip where it narrows, a thin stem is growing straight up and is 6” long but it is skinny, yet stands straight. Am I supposed to cut this off and plant it!
Also I have leafs frowning off the other three stems I bought and I don’t know what I’m supposed to do. Is this leaf where the flower will bloom?? Am I supposed to cut the fragile leaves that grow from the stems I bought?
I spend so much time since I bought these figuring out what I’m supposed to do. One website said it likes to cling onto branches, mine did not like it and did not cling to wood branches.
I actually love the upright stems. How does one get a red stem?? This is such an unusual cactus, which is why I bought it.
If I can reach you or give you my info in private, please let me know. That is if you have time. I see that you use sticks and strings to hold some of your stems up. Can you explain? Should I do this??
    Thank you!!! Rhonda in Florida

When you get the cutting leaves, cut V shape, let air dry few days ( 7 days) in shaded area....then put in water...

Hello!! I did your method and it works well. I have some orchid cacti here in my collection among others. I have a cactus similar to herringbone cactus, but much narrower. I live in Southern California with miserable soil.....I just stick them in hard soil and they grow and prosper in spite of me. Have them in the ground and planters. I ignore them until they show me how beautiful they are. How can I extend their blooms. On the plant they live for a day or two. In a vase don’t last long...any suggestions /recommendations more than welcomed.

      Hello Marion,
      Thanks for watching my videos.
Before you you plant, dig the hole , 15” wide, 15 deep, fill with good soil, a little bit of perlite and fertilizer ( like fish fertilizer or Osmocotte 14-14-14.), and water once a week,,,, you should plant in shade area, only few houses morning sun like under the trees, under th roofs,,,,in shade area , the blooming will last longer.
After they mature, about 2 years,,, then you should fertilizer with MOREBLOOM ( ALASKA FERTILIZER) or SUPER BLOOMER, plants will bloom a lot ,,,.
      Thanks again

      Hello Anthony,
Good potting soil plus Perlite, will help drain water fast….
Diseases on leaves come from different causes….maybe soil mix too wet, maybe in too humidity areas…
I use Epsom Salt mixed with water and spaying on the leaves or you can use neem oil….
You should mix some slow fertilizer ( like Osmocote 14-14-14) , little Epsom salt in soil mix….help the plants growing stronger and healthier…

Please tell me more about the fern leaf cactus (6:50), Golden Heart. My fern leaf cactus keeps getting black tips, then rots or dies. I am desperately trying to save it, but what am I doing wrong? How much light does it need? How much water does it need? Maybe the soil is problematic - does it like to be moist/dry/water when dry? My propagations mostly just turn black and rot when I try to cut, and let it scab over a couple of days - going to try your water method. Thank you for this amazing video, and any tips about my fern leaf cactus!

    • @THIENNHATQUYNH

Fern leaf cactus is very easy to grow and propagate…..just cut black tip or leaves and throw away….some kind of virus. It doesn’t need a lot of water and light….not directly sunlight….
You should use potting soil mix with some perlite…..also they like fertilizer, like all purpose fertilizer, Alaska fish fertilizer……it’s fast growing plants….
Propagation, just cut mature leaves, dips in rooting hormone, let it drying few days in shade area….then put in drying
      Potting soil, spray water lightly…..that’ll.
      Good luck

      Good morning V Gil,
From cutting leaves, take about 2 years for plants become mature, and star blooming.....
Blooming less or more depends on your care and fertilizer.....I use SUPER BLOOMER after 2 years old, and star in February.
      Have a great holidays.
