that was very helpful, I recently purchased for eBay a Caenan 100, and have had my share of birds nest with it. now that I know I can slow it down with other than the tention but, maybe I won't bird nest as bad. thanks for the vid!

when you open the sideplate, theres like four plastic things you can pull out or push in, is that lew's version of the VBS system? cuz when i turn them on they dont seem to make much of a difference i think,
i lost one of the vbs brakes what should i do? one of the little things you pop up popped off and i wasnt able to find it. should i take the one on the opposite side off?
So basically, (disregarding backlashes), if you want maximum distance, all of the breaks would be pushed in, so that they don't rub against the thingy?

i need help! my spool wont spin. like when i click the thumb release it works fine but when i spin the handle, the handle spins but the spool doesnt, and he thumb relese doesnt go up. so i manually have to click it up..whts wrong with it??
when outside today got my shimano curado 503 and g.loomis pr 844c rod number 7 shad rap no hooks set the reel to 2 pushed out and 4 pushed in throw the shad rap about 60 feet try this maybe it will help others
You can remove the plastic brakes off by pulling them straight off. Shimano often gives you replacements in the reel box just in case you need to replace them too.

the cast control nob controls the first part of the cast and the brakes control the over run at the end of the cast or when your lure stops.
