- "Come Together" is a song by The Beatles written primarily by John Lennon and credited to Lennon/McCartney. The song is the lead-off track on The Beatles' September 1969 album Abbey Road. One month later it also appeared as one of the sides of the group's twenty-first single (it was a double A-side, the other side being George Harrison's "Something") in the United Kingdom, their twenty-sixth in the United States. The song reached the top of the charts in the U.S., while becoming a Top 10 hit in the UK.
TINA TURNER covered the song for the 1976 ephemeral musical documentary All This and World War II. Prior to that,her cover was featured on her and then husband's Ike's album of the same name. This version peaked at #57 on the U.S. Hot 100 and #21 on the R&B charts in 1970.

This was the first version I ever heard growing up until I was about 12. Then after Lennon got shot I found out it was a Beatles tune. I love the original but since this was the first one I heard I still gravitate to it. Great energy.....
My parents were very proud of their copy of Tina's version. We knew Beatles did it first but you'd go to jail for having Beatles, or anything western. So it was hard to get anything, and if you did get some tunes, you only play them around very trusted, non snitching friends and family, at very low volume level. This was in late 80s in Bulgaria 🇧🇬. It was under the USSR control, and communism was everywhere, but Tina planted the seed of freedom in my soul. I didn't even know English, at the time lol. Music frees your mind! God bless her.

Tina just kills it here! I just recently heard this rendition for the first time (like 10 minutes ago) and was compelled to look it up. I' love the original Beatles version, but dare I say, Tina's vocals took it to a whole new level. Damn she was good!

@@virgiljmaxson5877 I don't think he meant "older than the beatles", I'm pretty sure he meant "older than the other version recorded by Ike and Tina". IIRC, the album version of "come together" they put out was in 1971. This is from 1970 and sounds like a demo recorded before cutting the album version (hence the production quality being lesser)

The Beatles and Tina did different things for the same song. The Beatles made a cool, fun song that epitomizes everything that made them great. Tina's version is haunting and deeply soulful. I personally prefer Tina's version by a long shot, but everyone's got different tastes. After reading a comment below, I checked out Michael Jackson's version. It's not as bad as I thought it would be. Decent version.

Had a whole evening listening to Tina Turner. I know there was a terrible history with Ike but this woman was a rock leviathan and the stuff with Ike was the perfect tapestry. Lennon's geneus word-play encapsulated and saved in fresh form in this awesome cover - way better than Jackson's effort. Joe Cocker did a nice one nevertheless.

I guess it's a matter of taste and culture. As a black wOman I can appreciate the soul added to the rock. That's not to say one is better than the other. I agree the original is usually better, if for nothing more than sentimental purposes. However for me I prefer listening to Tina's version. No one culture no one race is absolutely better than the other So those with my perspective aren't right nor are those who prefer the Beatles. If we could all peacefully have differences and recognize that's the beauty of the world. There would be no tina come together with out the Beatles for me, and there would be no elvis if it weren't for the many black entertainers before him. acts beautiful except to those who are miserable.
