    Have you ever NOT made it back to the runway. Isn't that a risk! Great video as always.

    Should you feel insulted since google thought this is portugese?

    That audio variometer would drive me crazy. I see you went a bit too far downwind! Although you don't get a lot of height on a winch launch I love the climb.

    My tips as a trainee glider instructor, would to really slow down your checks. If you rush them, you could really mess up big time.

    What if the camera hits the canopy and damages it?
    -CAA

    • @greatflyer_aviation
      @greatflyer_aviation  Рік тому

      It cannot, because the camera mount is made of soft rubber. If one was to doubt the integrity of a canopy against rubber they would most likely refuse to fly in that aircraft!

    Amazing video and good flight! Did you have the go pro head strap to film this?

  • @pizzasubs

    really like that one at the end that actually had that engine on the front of it, I know that probably does add some extra weight to the glider and as so, does that make it a bit harder to keep it up in the air, the only other one I saw like that actually had a engine that actually raised and lowered from the top of the glider which was actually pretty cool.....

    That was much noisier than my first ever flight in a Sedbergh with no canopy!

    Usually pretty much all gliders have that string attached to the nose of them, correct, guessing that is used to tell which way the wind is blowing, right, also found out that the Longest glider Flight, which lasted for 1,023 miles, stood as a world record for at least 20 years, and is still a United States National Record.

  • @pizzasubs
    @pizzasubs 8 років тому

    I know that this is going to sound corny, but what was pulling the winch to launch the glider at the beginning??????? Also, do alot of gliders nowdays have those small strings on the front of the cockpit window????? was that also a glider at the end of the video, if so, I have never seen one before with the engine on the FRONT of it like that before, I know that they make gliders that have what I guess they call pop-up engines that raise up from behind the cockpit of the glider and the pilot uses that to get it up into the air and to the altitude that he wants, then when he reaches the correct altitude he actually lowers the engine into the body of the glider and now the glider is a true glider again except for the extra weight of the engine in the glider's body which always made think of how it could actually stay up into the air with that extra weight it has in its body?????

      +Andrew Silva Actually the winch is at the very end of the runway and then is accelerated for about 15 seconds and then decelerates very slowly then is released +TheGreatFlyer Good video as always.

    How can this plane fly ?

  • @turbofanlover
    @turbofanlover 8 років тому

    Like an amusement park ride......but 10X better......I mean 10000000000000000000000X. ;) Just curious....is it possible that the winch cable fails to detach?

    • @lashamgliders
      @lashamgliders 8 років тому +2

      +turbofanlover It is but it's very rare. The Winch itself has a guillotine to ensure that the glider won't get pulled into the winch in the event of a hang up.

      That thing is light as hell

    • @michaelrosche
      @michaelrosche 7 років тому

      On the Top Light? It's a plane, and there's a human in it, doesn't look very light to me, the winds must be very strong? Or is there a propulsion system on this plane?

    • @AA-xk1uv
      @AA-xk1uv 7 років тому +2

      Michael Rosche Its light weight + its long wings structure creates a easy lift to keep it flying....

    • @AA-xk1uv
      @AA-xk1uv 7 років тому +1

      Michael Rosche No there is no propulsion in Gliders.....Hence they are called Gliders

    • @AA-xk1uv
      @AA-xk1uv 7 років тому +1

      Michael Rosche There is also something called glide ratio like 50:1 (Travels 50 miles if at 1 mile altitude)....You can google or watch some videos here on UA-cam to learn how they works....
