- a wander about Rhyl in North Wales and the arcades on a rainy day. Filmed it in 4k @60fps so hopefully look good though the camera wasn't overly happy with the lighting. it did alright though :)
always enjoy a wander about Rhyl even if it was lashing down for most of it.
I grew up in rhyl but moved away and never looked back despressing seeing the decline and how empty its become . Will subscribe
I think Rhyl is trying to clean up its image. In about 2003 ish I used to go a lot and it had become pretty bad. It's emptier now but feels cleaner and safer. I don't know if that's just an outside view but I hope the place does OK as I have a soft spot for Rhyl.

got to get back soon, they arent to happy about filming in the arcades though pity as one day they will all be flats like the rest

Its nice in Rhyl and up the road across the bridge is Towyn and the fair lives there now and slowly things are opening again as Covid dies down a bit for now.
Rhyl is not an exciting place as it used to be many years ago, and haven't been for a few years. I'm Justin Jones (JJ) a teacher in Chester in the 1990s and my daughter was a pupil. On Friday afternoons in June and September after school we went in my "magic car" a brown Austin Maxi to enjoy ourselves at Rhyl funfair and couldn't wait to take our smelly shoes off in the Stockingfeet House and ride on other amusements until the park closed. Then it was back home after ice cream and chippy tea.
Sadly the funfair is no longer there and also the Sun Centre and a number of other attractions like the Sky Tower.
The funfair is now across the bridge in Towyn. I don't think the sky tower works now and the Sun Centre is now just a theater, they have however recently built sun centre 2 or SC2 right in the middle of town. The whole ethos of the place has changed now though, it was a fun,sea and sand location (sometimes sun as well) but the fun part has been subdued a bit in recent years. I think the issues Rhyl was having with Heroin addiction and other drugs/problems was tarnishing the towns name so the council are trying to get it sorted. It was one of the most deprived areas in the UK not long ago which is a shame.
