  • Uh oh! My MacBook Air's battery isn't holding a charge anymore. Instead of buying a new one or spending hundreds of dollars having the Geniuses fix it, let me show you how to replace it yourself!
    This is for the MacBook Air A1466 (mid 2012 to 2017).
    here's the battery I picked up (and the best part is that it comes with the tools you'll need to open up that beautiful piece of aluminum!

    Thank you for the tutorial. One thing I would like to add, is, I just replaced mine, today. A1466, mid 2013. Which sat on a shelf for over 2 years, since I bought my 16" MBP, but, once I changed the battery, the laptop showed 2 charge cycles, but, still showed the old battery stats, and the laptop said "change now" the old battery wouldn't go above 1% on with the charger plugged in for 2 hours. A quick search on Google, told me to reset the SMC, power off computer, hold down shift control option and the power button for 10 seconds, then release, then hit the power, and it synced the new battery with OSX.

      That was as confusing AF! SMC? No idea what that is and you failed to explain it. With the laptop powered off, hold down shift AND control? You said hold down "shift control" AND power button....which would turn the Mac back on. But then you state "Hit the power". If we just turned the Mac back on why would we hit "Power"? ......seems I need an interpreter here.....

      @@JQUICK21a quick google will tell you to do this:
      Shut down your Mac.
      Press and hold Shift, Control, and Option on the left side of the keyboard. At the same time, press the power button.
      Hold for 10 seconds.
      Release the keys and then turn on your Mac.

    Your video just saved me over $200 - that was the minimum service fee without the cost of the battery that I was quoted for replacing the battery on my 2017 MacBook. I am 67 years old and more than a little tech challenged. I was able to replace the battery after watching your video in under 10 minutes. I also appreciate the replacement battery brand recommendation. Thank you!

    Nice helpful video which I used to replace my wife's battery (actually her 2013 Macbook Air's battery).
    A bunch of whiners in the comments below criticized you for spending too much time on style and not enough on substance. Sure, you could have done this in 5 minutes, but you took the time to make it enjoyable. Your photography and instructions are great. You also show great class in how you responded to the few really harsh comments with humor and lightness. And just scroll down the comments section to tally up how many thousands of dollars you saved your viewers.
    Well done!

      Hi! I’m not an expert i was just following the guidance of the manufacturer which was corroborated by some power users on various forums so i can vouch for the power management calibration. Sorry I can’t help on that one. I will say that the battery is still holding strong without issues.

    • @MADEbyAP
      @MADEbyAP  9 місяців тому +1

      Hi there! Not entirely sure. I’d search for batteries with your model number. I don’t think the batteries are contingent on the country. For the memory I believe it’s actually soldered directly to the mother board so you may not be able to upgrade that. You can upgrade the hard drive though. That’s a relatively easy process that you can search UA-cam for instructions. Good luck!!

    So if it doesn't have that service message, that means the battery is ok and doesn't need to be changed. Because mine stays on as long as it's plugged up, but it won't charge to 100%. it stays as low as 10%.

    • @MADEbyAP
      @MADEbyAP  Рік тому +1

      Interesting! And you don’t see the error when it’s unplugged either? You could try changing the battery but if that doesn’t solve it you may need to take it in for service. How old is it? Sorry I don’t have a definitive answer for you! Also check out some of the suggestions here if you haven’t done so already: www.it-tech.com.au/how-to-fix-macbook-battery-not-charging-issue/amp/

    That wasn't the Harddrive. It was the SSD.
    Pay attention to the size of the screws. Some of them are longer than the others.
    Should connect charging cable first, before turning on.

    Hi! As I was taking off the back case, the piece below the fan (kind of slender horizontal piece) popped up. Is that a problem? I just kind of gently pushed it back in as I screwed the case back on.

    Hello, I have a Mac Air 2015 that is a little slow. Your battery is bad and only works if it is connected to the charger. Do you know if changing the battery will improve its performance?

    • @MADEbyAP
      @MADEbyAP  2 місяці тому

      Hey there. The battery may be the culprit but it could also be storage, or even the amount of RAM? Are you running out of space or running modern programs that may be miring down the computer? The battery only working when plugged in means that should be changed regardless though. Sorry I can’t be more helpful here with the sluggishness.

      Thanks with the memory it's great because I just use it to browse and the only program I have is Slack for my work. So I think one solution may be battery change.

      Hi! Well that’s a new one. Try resetting the smc (www.avast.com/c-reset-mac-pram-smc) and see if that works. If it still persists and the battery you installed is new it may be a different issue and you should probably take it to the Genius Bar for an assessment.

      Out of space ssd I thought, right?

    • @MADEbyAP
      @MADEbyAP  Місяць тому

      Hi. Slow speed could be caused by a few things like low space on the hard drive, too many resources intensive programs running at once. When a battery does get to a low (about to sleep) level it is possible to see performance drops too. If you have to keep the laptop plugged in at all times anyway I’d suggest changing the battery. At least then you can use it as intended. You may also want to check the size of your ssd and if it’s jam packed either offload some things to a man external drive or even upgrade the size of your disk which is actually pretty easy too. I don’t have a video on that but there are others out there that you can find one from. Good luck!
