You could call it combo of basic attack or more powerfull version of basic attack. It deals higher dmg but has 0 mp cost like basic attack. You can always check the dmg modifier on skill section fyi

You actually need to be an expert in dodging to use him

You have to master his dodging because he wants to be low hp. He's designed to get low and do more damage so you effectively want to never get hit.
