I was really impressed with how well they mapped Manhattan. They literally put every single street and avenue from the South Ferry all the way up to 220th St
Great retrospective! I remember this series growing up, the combat was fun and story was engaging. Sleeping Dog is a great game that I wish got the sequel it deserved, both series should eventually return, if possible, and fill the void of open world crime games.
I still play Streets of LA from time to time since it's backwards compatible. True Crime NYC's an underappreciated gem imo. I'd love a remaster. I love Sleeping Dogs, but it had a different style so I'm glad the name was changed.
So true and sleeping dogs took gta and nycs mechanics and made it am awesome game.i just wish that you could arrest people on that game instead of having the cops doing it for you from your TV camera
NYC was an amazing game way ahead of its time, great story plot twist wild missions like getting ditched in an insane asylum, being shot at by a mini gun list goes on
@@TycoonDaKnite there’s the one dlc where your still wei but you play as a foot cop and you can arrest and taser people it’s cool asl if you’ve never tried it
Really sucks that the series is dead i freaking love both of the games True Crime: New York City being my favorite in the series I also love Sleeping Dogs too Man can you imagine if sleeping dogs crossover with true crime like Wei Shen meeting Nick Kang...dude that would freaking awesome man *sigh* hopefully one day in the future the series comes back....hopefully
just came across this video and I really appreciate how well you made it. I can see you don’t upload anymore but damn I would love to hear your opinion on other old games or things like that.
Great video! You earned yourself a subscriber. I’ve never played this one, but I’ve heard of it in the past. I checked out your video because I’m thinking about picking it up as a retro collector
they need to bring True Crime NY back. that shit was GANGSTER, but also dope how you were a cop. This was a great video and you deserve more views for this. Keep at it tho, retrospectives and gaming docs are hot on youtube now, you could easily blow up in a few videos
I agree this game was so badass! Thank you so much for the kind words I’m actually working on a new video and hoping to be more consistent in the future! Thanks again for watching (:
Igh.. hell with narc.. I remember beating the hell out an Xbox because of that game.. I ripped the tray out and everything.. still got the Xbox an it still works.. damn things almost 30 had been beat to death an still kicking.. I’ve had plenty of consoles since but none as strong as that old P.O.S.. most durable console ever made.. you just gotta slap mine from time to time to get the tray to move.. but you could just pull it all the way out with your fingers if it doesn’t come out itself.
Yeah, probably because every open world sandbox game is always compared to GTA which infuriates me. I love GTA, but I also liked the Driver games, True Crime, Saints Row, etc.
True Crime NYC damn I played the shit out of that game still have it. I think my favorite part about that game other than the music was the fact that you could choose different fighting styles and the moves were actually pretty authentic with what style they corresponded with.
@@solidmage1720 I own every single version now of both games (PS2, Xbox and GameCube) and I'd say the GameCube versions are my go to, especially for Streets of LA cus that's the version I played first.
@@oldandnewgamer The game cube version of Streets Of LA is the one I played first as well, and Xbox version second. And NYC on PS2 first after Streets Of LA.

This video randomly popped up for me and now I’m playing Streets of LA on the ps2 hahahah full went out of my way to buy a AV to HDMI to play both true crimes! Thank you for reminding me of these 2 bangers!
I owned this game and enjoyed it at the time and would always play My Chemical Romance in the game's radio. So 2005. The funniest thing I remember from the game is how, if you lose a mission or get "wasted" via a bomb or explosion, then Marcus, the protagonist, would lose all his limbs and instantly become a quadriplegic. It wasn't even played for comedy purposes; the animation was just that choppy! Explosion happens and all his limbs get blown off! Hilarious!
13:55 Those are some very nice shoes, I was able to find a pair of those that someone is selling for $99 but I'm a size 10 but man I sure would want to get my hands on those!
Imagine if they went the same path as Saints Row. Started as a GTA Clone then became it's own thing. Imagine these games with modern mechanics, graphics.. wasted potential.
I first played TC:NYC, and to call it GTA clone is a disservice to the time, it has enough mechanics and a completely opposite side to GTA. Maybe if it wasn’t so compared with GTA it would have had more success. Or maybe I just have nostalgia 😅
*who owns the rights to True Crime???? last I heard, Activision dropped the trademark so is it now owned by Luxoflux??? Anyway, a remake is cool but we need a modern day True Crime that takes place in Harlem and Las Vegas 👌 give us a customizable protagonist and let us get trained by Marcus in Harlem 😍 solve a big murder then fly us out to Vegas to do some human trafficking investigations with Nick Kang* 👍
True crime: new york city was the better game. It was alot better than what it was rated at the time. The problem with it was 1. Bugs 2. Storyline was too short 3. Driving was difficult at higher speeds and certain vehicles 4. Limited RPG elements(vs. GTA San Andreas) 5. No girlfriends 6. No body armor(vs. GTA SA)

Because they aren't an FPS, GTA, or for some stupid reason.. a sports game (the absolute worst genre, I will die and be cremated on this hill.)
They gave up on this franchise too quit it woulda been neck & neck to GTA to this day
Like Watch Dogs

It became sleeping dogs..Still wasn't enough to compete with GTA
See losing the true crime name lost me i didnt even know about sleeping dogs lol
