They will also try to force out anyone who moved there before the HOA, and didn't want their property to be part of it. HOAs will also be so petty as to pick a fight with a WWII verteran/MoH recipient for the heinous crime of raising the American flag on their property. Fuck HOAs, they need to be disbanded so people don't have to go on a Benny Hill style chase to find a home.
Also, as is with the neighborhood in this vid, saying you can't park a pick-up in front is fucking stupid when you realize that car companies pretty much build nothing but trucks/SUVs now because of how US emissions/economy regulations are written. Just like 99% of people against HOA's, You are ignorant and misinformed in the matter.
Who told you that your property that you have a mortgage on and you pay your hard money on, belongs to the HOA? that's a terrible lie to believe.
Are you familiar with your HOA Articles and Bylaws? if not, I highly recommend you to look at it and educate yourself. The more you spread negative and misinformation on a subject you don't understand, you are not helping but making it worse.
The HOA is not just three people in a board, is a COMMUNITY as a whole, the board is just enforcing what YOU signed when YOU purchased the property and YOU decided to agree. If YOU didn't read, the YOU messed up, the HOA (Residents) is established there to protect the common interest of the community as a whole that's why when voting on a matter, there has to be a majority of the community resent.
Here is some examples of what we have been dealing with in our community:
Oil changes in the driveway, leaving a mess like oil pans and oil stains, etc.
Junk cars parked, either abandoned or for parts
Cars on lifts with no tires
Having the ability to park FOUR cars in the property, using the garage for storage while parking four cars outside (2 in the driveway and 2 on the street)
Parking Jet-Skis on the front side yard
Parking boats on the driveway having to park the cars on the street, obstructing traffic flow
      Garbage all over the place
      Abandoned Grass
      Abandoned external house repairs
Trees affecting the neighbor that doesn't want trees (Roots, leafs, etc.)
      Eyesore Exterior paint
Front yard decorations and accessories that are abandoned, such as swing sets, Gazebos, Water fountains, Vintage Rusty bicycles, etc.
Unfenced homes with backyard abandoned accessories
Unfenced home with pools, and/or abandoned pools
Fences that affect the neighbor, such as wood which deteriorate rapidly overtime and devalue the home.
      Unfenced homes with dogs
Using the garage as a barbershop, auto shop or auto detailing shop
Homes being used as Airbnb's or as rentals
Rental tenants making modifications not-approved by the owner and leaving, having the owner stuck with the issues
Lighting that affect other homes such as soffit string lighting
Lighting and decorations that are abandoned in place
Mobile Auto Detailing companies taking over the mail box and pool parking lot to detail cars USING the electricity from the pool area without permission
Residents thinking of the HOA as a country club that you pay a fee and you get to do whatever you want at the cost of the HOA
Constantly using the pool and cabana for NON-RESIDENT celebrations, birthdays, Indepence Day, etc. Leaving a mess behind.
Giving access to things, to non-residents that only residents can use.
So, educate yourself and make a decision, stay or move out but at least educate yourself.

Days later HOA mailed a pic of two small weeds growing in my yard of rocks with a complaint/threat that I had 24 hours to remove them or a fine would be issued.

And what would happen if your neighbor is doing things that are dramatically lowering the value of your home, the neighborhood and the community overall, eventually at the point of no return? Here are some examples of what my 7 year old community has been dealing with for some time:
The HOAs artciles and bylaws has many other elements that protect the value and the safety of the community AS a WHOLE.
Remember, the HOA is compose of the whole community and not just the "Board" the board is just ENFORCING what EACH resident SIGNED when they purchased the home.
So what are we left with? why the stigma towards HOAs? well, one word - IGNORANCE.
Most people don't read, most people don't understand and simply don't care unless it affects them personally
Having HOAs is all about caring for each-others interests and keeping a nice looking community.
So, educate yourself and make a decision, stay or move out but at least educate yourself.

When a resident is signing the mortgage he is given the HOA package explaining everything. that package is for the community and the community alone and is resident enforcement.
I'm not part of the board, but I have suggested many things to the board so we can relax a little.

Personally, it sounds like the landscaping rules need to be completely revamped and probably dramatically reduced.

The issue is that they feel small businesses are taking advantage of neighborhoods by parking commercial equipment there for free, and it makes the neighborhood look more commercial and less like a quiet residential area. Unfortunately, going forward, it appears that the average person won’t be able to count on their neighborhoods to be a quiet sanctuary from work like they were in the past. Things are changing and there are a lot of forces acting on suburbs now, including a house-less generation that wants to convert them into densely packed triplexes and small apartment buildings.

Most HOAs in the United States operate illegally. In my state you have to take a class, pass a test and get a certificate to be on an HOA board. The board must be 100% certified or it cannot levy fines. I got certified, got on my board and found out that I was the only one certified. The board had been levying fines for years illegally. When they tried to fine me, I took them to small claims court and proved none of the other board members were certified. Easy win.

Some neighborhood karen called the cops to complain I was violating some city ordinance and the cops actually left a note on my car saying I was violating some ordinance. I moved my car onto my driveway. I then put more bricks on the roof and left the bricks there permanently. I would have drawn a "middle finger to the karens" picture and taped it to the back of my car but that's going too far and there are kids in the neighborhood.

The two groups have DRASTICALLY different mentalities or priorities so it’s a bit like trying to force a square peg into a round hole.
Fortunately, the Middle-Class is shrinking every single day, while the rich get richer, and the huge number of lower-class, hard-working stiffs at the bottom just keep getting larger and stronger in size.

I’ve lived in a non-HOA neighborhood in Colorado for the last 24 years. It’s a nice, quiet neighborhood with typical family homes. No one parks their cars on their lawn or paints their house pink. I cannot remember a single occurrence during that time when someone had parked anything like the “obnoxious vehicles” that guy was describing. And even if they had, the neighbors I have are not so uptight to care. I’m entertaining the idea of selling my house and moving out of state, and one of the concerns I have is either finding another non-HOA home or one in an HOA with very few rules. I absolutely hate the thought of having to live in an HOA neighborhood.

    • @M1911jln
      @M1911jln 5 місяців тому +2

Get over yourself. We live in a suburb of Boston. There is no HOA. There is a house down street that is pink. I don’t particularly care for the color, but so what? It is their house, not mine, and the color they chose doesn’t impact the value of my house whatsoever. A house down the street became rundown as the elderly homeowner declined. That didn’t affect my home value. Eventually that homeowner passed and his 1,300 sq ft ranch was replaced by a 2,500 sq ft colonial that is now worth about $1.5M. The house across the street also got run down as the elderly couple declined. They have passed and a contractor is rebuilding the house. That also hasn’t affected our home value.
You know what has affected our home’s value? Our excellent school system. Out 1,500 sq ft ranch built in 1950 on a cut through street is worth over $700k.
You don’t have to make everyone else live how you do in order to preserve your home’s value. You simply want to control how your neighbors live, which is truly arrogant and disgusting.

    • @aliannarodriguez1581
      @aliannarodriguez1581 5 місяців тому

I would say you got lucky in getting neighbors that shared your ideas about what is and isn’t appropriate. You might feel differently if even a single neighbor (or overseas investor) wanted to make money by renting out their house to twenty adults who filled the street and front yard with their cars, and used the backyard to store commercial vehicles. This is, unfortunately, not an uncommon scenario and is becoming even more frequent as housing gets more expensive.

    • @M1911jln
      @M1911jln 5 місяців тому

@@aliannarodriguez1581 No, there are zoning laws and town bylaws that prevent such behavior. And if a neighbor is a plumber and parks his work van in the driveway, so what? That wouldn't lower my property value either and it would let me know he is a plumber and could do work for me when I need it.
You need to visit New England and the Midwest. You will find many, many very nice communities with varied housing stock that don't all look the same, that don't have HOAs, and are very nice places to live. Stop trying to control how your neighbors live. It's not any of your business what color they paint their house or what plants they grow in their garden or what color they paint their fence, or if they park a pickup truck in their driveway. None of that will reduce the value of your home -- you may think it will but you are wrong. Stop with the kneejerk reaction to try to control others. Live and let live and you will be a lot happier.
We have lived in our home for over 30 years and neighbors have come and gone. Our experience has nothing to do with luck.
