    Hello Richard, have a Happy Easter, may your trip to Tansmania be a photo success, because we all want to see those photos
    A piece of advice from a friend and photo traveler if I may, take a second body, and I would make the sacrifice even if I had to wash it in a small treker's pocket.
    Less than a month ago I was in Iceland and I lent my second body to a friend who, because he had an accident with his camera, is a setback that any photographer can face.
    Richard have a Fantastic Trip to Tansmania 😀👏👏👏

    The drama of packing.....Not 2 cameras is a mistake...imho...I was 2 weeks into 7 weeks in faroes and Iceland...my main landscape camera got water on the lens/body connector took 2 days to dry and was fine...but I would have lost 2 days in a tight schedule if I did not have my backup camera..... Tripods (surui) I break down and go in my check in luggage along with all cables and chargers etc.....to keep my carry on as lite as possible. This is what I will do when I come over in September for your astro workshop

    Happy Journey Richard. I've learnt from past years that taking less gear (rather what I need), helps in using more what i have in hand, knowing more about what i use (Including the limitations) and slow down in the process of photography instead of rushing and getting frustrated. Very sorry to hear about Alyn. His monthly "what is in the Night Sky" is an inspiration and has been an input for our plans in most times. At the end of the day the gear is just a tool we use in order to express our creativity and emotion through our images. I agree sure trackers and modded cameras are a great tool to help with that but sometimes it is good to get back to basics and remember how great and fun the process can be. Post processing is the other half of the equation with today’s modern equipment the possibilities are endless and amazing. Thanks once again Richard for another inspirational video. Stay Safe Mate ! R.I.P Alyn Wallace And I've found with the Ulanzi Lights I have two now one won't hold it's charge for more than a couple of days? have you found this with yours ?

    • @nordic5490
      @nordic5490 9 місяців тому +1

      For thenUlanzi VL49 light, Ulanzi them selves advise:
      "... 🔔Warm Tips🔔If it has not been used for a few days, please charge it before using it again to ensure that the power of the video light is activated (it is normal for most electronic products to run out of power if it has not been used for a few days) ... "
      This is just poor design. There is obviously a parasitic loss draining,the battery when it is off. The larger units do not have this advice, thus may not suffer that problem. I might consider purchasing the Smallrig version instead.

    The angst I went through packing for my trip to Norway! I don't know how many UA-cam videos I watched trying to find tips from the pros who do this all the time.
    Because the destination was so far and I was going to do both nightscape and landscape, I wanted to take two bodies (D850 and Z6ii) plus lenses (14mm F, 20mm and 24 - 70 Z, 24mm F, 16-35mm and 70 - 200mm F) and two tripods (one for stills and one for timelapse of the northern lights). Then there were remotes, lights, a torch and head lamp, spare batteries, chargers, cleaning kit, filters. Oh, and my Air 2S drone.
    All of the delicate kit and essentials I could not do without if my checked in luggage was lost/delayed (chargers, remotes) was packed into my camera bag. I made sure that this was within the weight limits for international travel. Drone, one tripod and 70-200 went into my hard shell case for protection with the lens very well wrapped in soft clothing. Another tripod and anything else went into my rolling duffel. Macbook, iPad and hard drives were in my computer bag.
    To make sure my system worked, I rehearsed on a trip to New Zealand last winter and then out to Broken Hill last September. The trip to Broken Hill was important because the flight was on a DASH 8 which was similar to the flight needed to get into Leknes on the Lofoten Islands. As events unfolded, I had to remove the core unit from my camera bag because the airline wanted to place my bag into the hold for the flight. I bought the camera bag with this very scenario in mind and was very happy I could carry the delicate gear and batteries with me.
    Having my own rental car and a base to work from for several days at a time meant I could repack my camera bag to reduce the weight and take only what I needed to the photography locations.
    As the trip unfolded, my checked in luggage was delayed once on the way into Norway for a few hours and then on the way out it was delayed for four days! Fortunately, I could do what I needed to do with my cary on camera gear until my bags caught up with me. Being able to practice on two previous and less important trips meant that I was pretty well prepared for travel to the other side of the world!
    (The preparation also meant me getting my certificates and registering my drone for use in the UK and Europe but that's another story. We have it pretty easy in Australia.)

      @nightscapeimages.richard  9 місяців тому +1
