Ricky Ponting has the most number of runs by an Australian in Test cricket, 2nd overall, behind Sachin Tendulkar.
Most Centuries by an Australian (41) in Tests, 3rd overall, behind Tendulkar and Jacques Kallis.
Most catches (196) by an Australian in Test cricket, 5th overall, behind Rahul Dravid, Joe Root, Mahela Jatawardene and Jacques Kallis.
He also has the most runs by an Australian in ODI matches, 4th overall, behind Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka, and Virat Kohli.
Most centuries (30) by an Australian in ODIs, 4th overall, bheind Kohli, Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma.
Most catches (160) by an Australian in ODIs, and second overall, behind Mahela Jayawardene of Sri Lanka.
He didn't play many T20 Internationals, but nearly scored the first T20I century in the first ever T20I - 98 not out, his highest score in the format.
He is credited with 80 run outs in international cricket, most of which were direct hits.
There are some compilations of his run outs, some claim to have all of them.
He was captaon of the Australia test team from 2004 to 2011, and of the ODI team from 2002 to 2011.
I guess he could play a bit!

A great catch, brilliant fielder, as good as Viv Richards, Jonty Rhodes and Herschell Gibbs at running batsmen out , a master batsman, most successful captain when Australia was breaking records for consecutive wins in both Test Matches and One Day Internationals and also a handy spin bowler at lower levels of cricket.
Ricky burst onto the cricketing scene as a 14 yo batsman making centuries in A Grade cricket against the best men available for local cricket......and was groomed for stardom once Cricket Australia knew of the wonderkid.

Ponting started playing first class cricket, State comp - Sheffield Shield, at 17. He was selected to play for Australia at 21. I was not impressed thinking he was being given an easy ride as a favourite of Rod Marsh. He proved me utterly wrong as he is something of a savant, having dropped out of school after completing only the 10th grade. He was pure poetry in everything he did on the cricket field and a real gentleman. He captained Australia during one of its most dominant eras. To hear him speak in commentry is to hear everyone else just go silent. He just knows the game like he played it - peerless.

Cricketer is absolutely the correct term for a cricket player. Ponting is a living legend, amazing hand eye coordination which made him lethal in the field with very quick pickups, direct strike runouts, as you've seen catches and it made him a legend with the bat too, scoring over 13000 runs with an average of 52 runs per innings in test matches and 13000 runs scoring an average of 42 runs per innings. He played for Australia for over 17 years and led from the front for 9 of them. There's a 32 minute+ compilation of Ricky Ponting direct hits: ua-cam.com/video/wy5HAJlAxQU/v-deo.htmlsi=C0-cq9LY2XprApQd . There's quite a few compilation videos of his fielding magic out there.

One of our best captians also top scoring batter as well many 💯 some doubles high up on batting order as well
Spent most of his time in slip area for fielding for this reason
Most slip fielder are the best batters as they can read the ball off the pitch and react in advance depending edge where it hits the bat
Also due to being batters their reflexes are highly tuned to react quickly
It's why bowler's tend to field in deep as fast running from bowling and strong arms to throw the ball from distance hard and fast
Also bowler's are tall over 6ft so better chance of catching ball on bounder
But like you see Ponting is a smaller player and why he's more agile low or leap
But alway exceptions to the rules
Mid fielders tend to be mid order batters
That's why most fielders are specilized in those areas and generally safe but can field anywhere
This is what makes a good captain knowing which player to put where and when
They work with bowler's to How they won't the ball bowl or how bowler decides he going to bowl
Then captain will place the best player suitable for that spot
It might take several overs just bowling to restrict batters and frustration builds then they'll adjust fielders
The bowler's will bowl to the batters strenght and hopefully get them caught as they'll go for what seem a loose bowl
But was planned by captain and bowler's
    Cheers guys 🦘🇦🇺👍

Ricky "Punter" Ponting is the BEST fielder ever. Nobody is even close. He could also use the bat - check his batting record on CRICINFO. And his CAPTAINCY RECORD.
Also, check out Ponting's RUN OUTS...
Punter is now coaching in the IPL. No surprise.
