It feels like it makes more sense backwards. Like, it's just this giant robot thing building a city till he's just one of the citizens, and then the world goes dark
when it's played normally it's a robot that malfunctions and eats everything but when it's backwards it's almost as if it's been carrying the robot and deployed them
It truly has a deeper meaning, as you can see at the start the robot is controlled by those small boxes, it detaches and becomes rouge, it then has an urge to become perfect. He programmed the small robots that he ate to destroy themselves (the three that had just been created) so that they could be remade by the robot maker. At this point all he had was a couple of small robots, so he placed them in their correct spots, but before placing the last one, he ate the malfunctioning yellow flower, so that would never happen again. He took one last look at his first robot attachment, placed it in front of another flower, and reset his code so that finally, he would have no memory of this. Then the cycle started again, as normal. And it would be normal until there was another malfunctioning flower, but that would not be for a long time. This took a while to write so thanks for reading.
