Thank you for the video! that is crazy accurate of what i am looking to do! i do have exactly the same canopy as yours and i was looking to purchase Kings 270 awning and wanted to do it in best, and yours looks great, also you inspired me for the solar panels as well, only thing is, do you face any challenge with leaking from brackets side of the awning during rain? i am thinking to have some guards to avoid this. Cheers!
Thanks for the video, really helpful because i wanted to get the canopy + 270 + dune roof top tent as well. What are your overall thoughts of the canopy after owning it for a while? And with it's rating do you think it'd support a RTT as well?
Hi, Overall its pretty decent for the price. The paint isnt the best (but pretty easy to fix up as shown in this video), The hinges are also starting to fail (but i have replaced them with a new set of aluminium hinges i got for 25 dollars total so will see how long these new hinges last) i will show the new hinges in a future video. Yes it is very solid so will handle the weight of rooftop tent no worries, i have climbed up on it and walked around and it handles weight well.
Good on ya for getting it done. But your engineering just isn’t right, you’ve done a lot of things to create stress and weak points. It may wobble and come loose. The angle is way too thin, cutting it away and it’s even weaker. look at the thickness and sturdiness of the brackets. I hope it lasts for you man
Thanks for your comment, I understand where your coming from. I was a little worried at first about the strength of the angle. But after i completed it, it actually ended up quite sturdy. I have been using it for about a year now on many camping trips and it works perfectly, no issues with wobbling etc. You can only really tell if engineering is wrong by testing. And so far it seems like I got it right.
