Let's not think about the malware that they put on your phone just by installing and opening the app right? Just the permissions this "shopping " app uses is ridiculous. It needs to be banned in the United States and is a serious risk to our social credit score.
We use it for both crafting stuff and other odds and ends that are now like $4-$5 cdn at Dollarama. As long as you know in advance that need them or need to restock on something they are great.
I've made my most expensive purchase on Temu a few months ago: a 120-piece aquarel pencil set (it wasn't cheap, but I had reliable sources saying it was good quality - I would have never dared to spend so much on Temu without prior intel). And indeed, they are really good. I bought it as a present and seems to be a good purchase.
The reason why temu has two different pronunciations is because one is how you would pronunce it with the chinese phonetics (the same shared alphabets they use that inputs into characters on a computer) and the other is the English phonetics. Just like how you would read Quesadilla with the english and mexican phonetics. A lot of people with chinese names in the US would refer to themselves with the english phonetics to make it easier but would not obviously actually pronounce it that way when speaking mandarin. I think the discrepancy of pronunciation is peoples' different opinions on how is should be pronounces. Just like how there are different opinions on if its okay to say croissant in the english pronunciation in english speaking countries or if it should be pronounce in the original french way.
This video was hilarious! I loved it! I also love Temu. The quality of the items you get probably depends on the kinds of items you buy. I buy mostly craft supplies from there and most of it is good quality. Craft supplies can get really expensive, so getting essentially the same items from Temu at a much cheaper price is a big help to me.
They browbeat us on UA-cam with that absolutely brain grating "TEE-MOO, TEE-MOO, I'M SHOPPIN LIKE A BILLIONAIRE" ad and are now trying to say that's not the pronunciation. That by itself is so mind numbingly annoying, that ALONE would guarantee I'd never buy anything from them ever.
Temu collects more data from you than any other app on your phone including precise location data, (within 15 feet) and often sells goods of dubious origins, such as unsafe/ untested makeup or goods made from xinjiang cotton, it's important to be aware of the products we buy and if the price is too good to be true there is often a reason.
@Bionicbabyy while I agree Google collects way too much data it also isn't beholden to the government to give up your data, they often fight any subpoena to hand over that data, tik tok and Temu must by law hand over anything the CCP requests and don't have to inform anyone they did.
are you worried because its Chinese? Because US companies pull the same, and those companies sell it too. including selling it to the US and outside governments. When I used it, I used it on desktop and it physically cant receive those things if you know what your doing. You used to not even be able to load it on a browser when it first came around, I do remember that. But TikTok also did that. I'm sure its just a coincidence theyre both Chinese companies preferring a certain method though. lol
I do have an issue with people acting like amazon is any better though. its not and now in many instances have the same sources as temu. Amazon can be on the ground in China sourcing their own store brand enough that theyre comparable. But people still act like Amazon and Ebay are above it. But if they didn't completely transition they would have as much market share. But consumers dont care about that shit. I actively seek out small US brands and or sellers now whether through etsy or some other smaller marketplaces.
@nwerd7584 not to criticize but often people who defend the CCP use whatabout-ism to divert the conversation its totally fine to have a conversation about Amazon abusing it's employees but if I reply with Temu buys Xinjiang cotton products made with Slav3 labor you can see how yes both are terrible but it can pull from and distract from one problem because there's other problems out there too. Your right but just because Amazon's bad doesn't mean let's celebrate Temu.
I actually bought stuff on Temu that I've been using and do their job perfectly. The secret: they are all simple and trivial gadgets that are so basic it's harder to do badly than well ;) Think of shoelace-level simplicity ;)

A corporation not agreeing on how to pronounce their own name is so bizarre. I feel like that’s a combo of not reviewing the influencers ads they paid for and wanting to please both sides of the pronunciation disagreement. For what it’s worth it’s known that A LOT of the overseas brands pick a random assortment of letters with no real meaning or pronunciation because it is easier to trademark and file for everything. Because if they pick sensical words other businesses typically fight back for the trademark
