A few years ago, I was standing in a traffic light in London at night. There was someone on the other side too. Not a car to be seen for miles. Nevertheless, neither he nor I crossed at a red light. When it turned green, we came towards each other and he said as we passed "German too, right?" :)
👍 whenever someone reminds me that the traffic light is "red" for pedestrians, I just answer: "Thanks". Ich glaube, dass manche Menschen einfach neidisch sind, wenn man sich Freiheiten herausnimmt, die sie sich selbst nicht trauen. Selbst, wenn weit und breit kein Auto zu sehen ist.
The "wrong bin thing" makes sense since the garbage collector refuses to take away incorrectly sorted trash. (We have a fairly extensive recycling system).
Had that happen at our complex a few times. City called an "unplanned tour" to pick it up as "unsorted garbage" which we all had to pay for. So yes, i would call you out if you put stuff in the wrong bin.
Happens in the UK, too. I saw some garbage collectors in the UK looking in the bins and sticking flyers on the bins with bad stuff inside, and not taking it.
In Germany, if the rubbish is in the wrong bin, it will not be emptied. The waste collection service checks this. As a tenant, I pay for rubbish collection and naturally want to get rid of my rubbish.
Because people collect bottles for the deposit it's also an unspoken rule that if you want to throw away your bottle while in public you leave it on the ground next to the bin so that the people collecting the bottles don't have to reach inside the bin.
@@DerAlteMann1974 For this reason, more and more german cities are installing small tablets or holders for deposit bottles on the sides or tops of public garbage cans
There is usually an escalation level for disturbing "Night Rest". First time: We tell you the next day we meet you in the hallway. Second time: We nock at your door and demand you stay quiet. Third time: We call the police because it's a law.
I don't know if it's available with subtitles somewhere but if so, this show is a must watch: "Mord mit Aussicht" It's a humorous crime series set in a rural area. About a big city detective transferred there who's confronted with small town life and attitudes. And the show pokes fun at so many German clichés. It's amazing!
Agree, watched that recently after i was done wth "Friesland", its a bit more over the top but very funny. Only the last season was not so good after they changed the main characters.
The house rules don't even matter when it comes to the night's rest, there are legal regulations here and you can even get in trouble with the regulatory authorities if you violate them. The house rules still regulate the midday rest, which is no longer protected by law.
12:05 I love watching reaction channels and that's why I know that the German Netflix series DARK was well received internationally. Many native English speakers watched it with English subtitles and loved it
The waste thing might become a hassle 'cause when the trash is collected and it's not sufficiently sorted the bins won't be emptied. Bringing back the bag to its owner thus might happen, but in most cases when you're watched putting your waste in the wrong bin you'll be addressed directly, probably with an explanation why it's a bad idea not to sort your waste.
Personally (as a German) I actually consider it "good form" to go tell someone personally that I am annoyed with some of their behaviour before I call on the landlord (-ing company) or, in some cases even the police to solve the problem. However, if it was me, I would try to be a tiny bit more polite and smiling when I tell someone to turn their noise down. I once lived in an apartment where the neighbours had teenage kids who got always fairly loud whenever they were home without the parents. I had to tell them a few times to turn the music down. However, I managed to stay on very friendly terms with them. Also: a spontaneous thing can happen, no problem, if I am free at the moment. But it is good to plan in things even if it's just a nice friendship meeting.
I would recommend "Der Tatortreiniger" (literally: crime scene cleaner) really dry north german humor. As I see, it was available in their list for free. You may like it.
I'm fifty and have internet since 2002. I had one bad encounter with the Telekom technician but never again. I always had internet after one or two days.
In my city (Krefeld) the garbage collection company comes once a week. We have four different colored dustbins. If they notice that there's wrong-sorted trash they refuse to take the trash and therefore punish all tenants if one tenant sorts incorrectly. They all can't put their new trash into the bin if it's already full from the previous week,
This is my list of "best" german movies: Good Bye Lenin, Im Westen nichts Neues, Lola Rennt, Sonnenallee, Das Boot, Das Tagebuch der Anne Frank, 25 km/h, Der Rote Baron, Paradise, Er ist wieder da, Das Leben der Anderen, Die Blechtrommel, John Rabe, Werner - Beinhart!
You've anticipated most of my list, so I'll just refer to those and make a few additions of films and series that I like, for example "Schtonk", "Anatomy", "Babylon Berlin", the film adaptations of "Eberhofer" crime novels - starting with “DampfnudelBlues” - and the series “Mord mit Aussicht” and “Tatortreiniger”. Thanks for the preparatory work.
IMHO still the best German movie to this day is "Das Boot" (1981). It's a WWII follows the u-boat U96 and it's crew. It's an adaptation of Lothar-Günther Buchheim's 1973 German novel based on his experience aboard U96. I would really like see a reaction video to this ☺. Oh, there is a three hour movie version and a five hour TV show. I recommend the TV show.
As for the Internet: If the wiring already exists it's usually a pretty easy process, they just have to link your account to that port, can be done within a few hours if you get lucky. If there is no existing end point wiring and a technician actually has to come out, that can be quite a process. Four weeks is a pretty long wait, but it can happen. Around one week or so is much more typical though, and often they send you a 5G router with an unlimited data SIM to cover the waiting time.
It's also about the provider you are choosing. Usually the providers rent the ports from the ISP that owns the local infrastructure, so if you happen to have a contract with the same provider the previous tenant had, there is a chance that your connection is up and running within a day or so. But to be fair, if you move you probably know your new adress a couple of month in advance anyways, so just remember to order your landline as soon as possible, and fix a date with your provider, so they can do the planning.
Just moved in Germany, signed the contract and ordered internet. Internet was available before i even started moving - and without the need of a technician to visit.
Well, you can survive without the internet, but not without water. If you take people's SIM cards out of their smartphones today, they'll be unconscious!😂
When you are planning to move, you should check the internet and make an early appointment with the provider. Than it will be not a long time to get the Internet in the new appartement. 😊 The Garbage thing ist, when it is in the wrong container, it could happen that the garbage will not be picked up or you get a fee. It's more about that the neighbour knows the right separation of the garbage.
When it comes to loud noises after 10 p.m. I will be quite direct, unless I was told beforehand. I work shifts and weekends, so if I have to get up at 4:30 in the morning you bet I will complain about loud music in the moment. The exception are planned parties. It was custom where I used to live in the city to inform your neighbours (and perhaps invite them as well), if there's going to be loud music. As long as it's not every weekend, I'm willing to ignore it. Nowadays I live quite rural and the loud noises late at night are either animals (esp. roe deer and barn owls) or farm machinery during harvest times. Nothing one can do about that.
Jaywalking is very much frowned upon in Germany. The reason is that we want to be role models to children - and one never knows, especially in cities, if not a child is watching you from a window above. So, if there are children nearby (or if we can assume that a child MIGHT be seeing you (from a café or a window etc.), you do not cross the street. In the middle of the night with zero traffic, no one bats an eye at someone jaywalking, but in dense traffic, it an absolute no go!
I will move into my brothers former flat. We went to our Internet provider together. I will not have internet for one night, in which the system updates and the new protocols are installed (they told me, we will see). I think it helps that he cancelled and I entered into the new contract at the same time and that I remained by the internet provider of my brother. Until now, I lived only in student homes with internet working from day one. When you move, you need to tell your landlord at least 3 month before you are able to get out of your contract (vice versa, to protect renter and landlord). You should have the time to sort out the internet issue ... it could be a problem if you moved from Germany from abroad, I guess...
A TV-show I can highly recommend is 'Im Angesicht des Verbrechens' by Dominik Graf. It's about east European organized crime in Berlin and corruption within the police. I'm usually quite bored by German crime shows and find them lacking compared to British or Scandinavian ones. But this one is really good. It's available on a lot of streaming platforms, however, I don't know whether it is streamed with English subtitles. The internet is divided on this question...
Hi, Dwayne! The jailwalk: In my opinion it`s because of the care of children! They should better lern to wait until the traffic light is green. When grown up people cross the road everytime they want to, it`s maybe problematic.... Once I heard someone saying: "Accidents don't happen, accidents are caused"! Well, `could be true!...🤔....😉 The thing with the waste: Hm, ...I would rather say, people who really put out the waste of the bin an bring it back to the "owner" are maybe bored and frustrated!!! 😅(I have never seen somebody who acts like that). There's more complaining and I've seen pieces of paper with complaints posted up in the trash room or in the hallway! (We also have many "watching Suzie`s")!!!🤣 But on the other side I see many immigrants (and maybe refugees) who dont`t give a shit about their waste and cause a big mess. Especially people from very different cultures. But I think it`s a bit rude to German society, because in general germans like it clean and nice and "efficient" (like you know). And therefore we have some rules. For me it is also a matter of education to children. And it`s indeed a part of the german character. That`s also the reason why "made in Germany" at least in the past always has been a sign of quality. ...Nowadays you read everywhere "made in china"! 😁😭😂
Hi from Germany! I ordered my highspeed internet (1,000mbit/s) on friday morning and got it (incl. hardware/router) on monday afternoon. I live in a very small village at the countryside - can't complain! Internet in Germany is quite cheap btw. :) My provider is the next city itself, not Telekom, o2, etc. Advantage: Once my Fritz!Box-router didn't worked anymore. I called the provider and four hours later a technican showed up and installed and configured the new router - for free. So I can't complain 'bout that... :)
A really good and very funny "series" in Germany is the older show "Genial daneben". You can find it on UA-cam, and you can have subtitles for better understanding. Its really funny and you can learn a lot! Maybe it can change your mind about german humor.... I like your videos, keep on making them! Greetings from southern Germany. ✌️
yeah, the straightforwardness is something i like too, you just know what people think then, instead that you think everything is alright and they talk behind your back... and concerning the quiet times, there are officiall rules, but it all depends on your neighbours. For example, if they are nice about having a party late in the night and inform me berorehand (most do that, like for a birthday), than i'll be alright with it without thinking about if it's under the week or the weekend. Especially, when it's only once or twice a year... but if somebody is just noisy on the regular, without thinking about the neighbours, who just want to sleep (seriously, had a neighbour that played loud music till 4am and i needed a long time to figure out which one, cause he wasnt even living in my house, but near enough in the neighbourhood, that i just couldn't sleep), then we are having a big problem... and if they don't stop their noise i will call the police if nothing else helps... the waste thing: others already said it: the city will not take the waste if it's in the wrong bin, so if you see someone not sorting it right, you try to teach them. :) and other things, like not walking when the light is red... i seriously had to stop someone, cause he didn't understand that he looked at the wrong light (he looked at the street crossing light, but there was a train crossing light...) and he nearly walked into a Tram... so we figured out he was not from around here and i had to explain the system with the second lights we have here sometimes at the streets where the trams cross (trains on the street, a bit like the tube in London). He was sooo glad, I stopped him... normal street lights for pedestrians, i only react, if I see someone is in danger :) .... and the nose blowing on the table... omg😂 i learned it's better to blow your nose instead of sitting there with a running noise, but you try to turn around a bit, so you don't blow in the direction of the table or into a neighbour... about movies you could watch: actually, if you have a streaming service, you could look up some stuff, maybe even something you already know and look, if they have german as a language option. They should have english subtitles so, you could start slowly getting into german and also see that the german dubbing is quiet good. I don't know if german stuff is on streaming platforms outside of germany, but we do love our crime shows. But i would not watch a boring Tatort, more something quirky, like other people already mentioned "Mord mit Aussicht", or you could try some german comedians, so you could learn something about our humor at the same time (and yes, we do posess humor, even if foreigners think otherwise... i think they often don't get our very dry and often sarcastic day to day humor that's often delivered with a straight face ;) )
Concerning Telephone and Internet access…. I moved to the north of Germany, working as an equine vet in a very small village, sometimes >90hrs a week, and unfortunately the neighboring farmer had a personal vendetta with the local Telecom Access box and had deposited a huge bale of hay in front of it… So after waiting forever for a technician, having to invite my mum to come be there because I wasn’t sure I‘d be there at the appointed time, I then had to do it all over again with the additional obstacle having to get another farmer with his tractor to come and remote the big bale of hay from another village, because everyone in my village was too afraid of the cow farmer and his choleric temper to chance and remove the bale of hay,… It was a major undertaking which took me more than two weeks to finally have internet in my flat…🧐
I would recommend you watching German comedy films, like '7 Zwerge allein im Wald' and 'Traumschiff Surprise'. They are a bit difficult to understand due to dialects and very casual German language, but they show good German humour and almost every German knows them.
@ 3:08 (being in the way) You can clearly see that there was a lot of space behind the young man. Most people would have taken three steps back! It's the same in the supermarket. Some people stop in the middle of the aisle with the large shopping cart instead of moving to the side. It would be nice if people kept in mind that they are not alone at a place… internet It depends. If there is everything installed already - e.g. because the person before you had internet - and if you then choose the same company it can be quite fast (no technician needed). I could just take my cable modem to another place and use it without doing anything else. I tried it and it DID work! Anyhow, from which year is the video? There is _no_ link or anything else regarding the video you react to in the description. language In general it's just being nice. I would like that if I was in an alien country. Everythging is foreighn already. It would make me feel good if people would speak German. However he explicitly asked them to speak English - in that case if was rude not to follow that. Rules regulate how we live together. It happens that people go to bed at 22: 00 here because they know that they can find sleep (no or very little sound) and that their sleep won't be interrupted. jaywalking 😉 So there are traffic rules but they only apply to motorised vehicles/drivers and not to pedestrians? Anyhow, many pople ignore the light here IF there are no children thet could see you. It's more likely to happen if there is not traffic at all - like at 03: 00 or sunday afternoon in Podunk or residental zones. rubbish No, people would not really do that. They'd rather just put the bag into the right container - for example when putting their own trash into the containers. But many people would - at the next opportunity - ask you to please(!) take some care*. Depending on the people that live there other tenants will know about it before you was told! * By the way, the litter service charges per type of container. The mixed rubbish is usually the most expensive. If there is too much wrong rubbish in a container it will simply be declared as mixed rubbish - then - if it happens too often the … let's say paper- … container will be replaced by a mixed trash container. So there is a financial aspect to this!
Regarding directness of Germans, we have this saying: Germans are too honest to be polite. British are too polite to be honest. P.S.: In general I prefer honesty and my wife usually hates me for this. 😁
The Internet thing... I think it depends on the city/town/village you will move to. Or if you move from one appartment to another in a town I guess you just have to "ummelden" (quess it ist "re-register") your internet. We move from one appartment to annother into the same street and did not have to wait 4 weeks to get internet. Well you also can use your smartphone internet if your really have to wait to get your wlan at your new home.
What is definitely true is that we Germans are much more forward especially more then America but also the UK. I lived in London few years and I did overstep others borders with me just being honest quite a lot it was something I really had to get used to. We are so much more direct and often people in UK would think I'm rude or blunt while I was just well I was being honest, and I don't beat around the bush. I was invited to a wedding they married in the countryside and they booked a hotel for us. In Germany I would not say it's usual the wedding couple would book it for you so when I got the invitation I phoned up all kinds of bed and breakfast in the near and tried to reserve a room when I finally got one and proudly told my fri Nd oh die ni finally got a room now I can tell you yes I accept the invitation.... And my friend looked at me all puzzled and said .. oh but it's clear we took care of the room and everything.... Me as German as I am took out the invitation and read it again and again then read it loudly and said .. but you did not write that you book the rooms. I got really upset because I spent all this time finding a room and organising and then she tells me it's all done already... What a waste of time slipped out of my mouth and my British friend was like oh now that was rude..... We finally cleared out everything but my bluntness did clash a lot with her British politness and mindset.... And not only on this occasion mind you we are still friends and she thinks today after visiting me every now and then that there are so much more blunt German people then me.... Sometimes it's just a matter of perspective.....
For german TV shows, you can check out "Friesland". At least i as somebody from northern germany really like it, its a cop show but with really funny characters if you like the northern german, very dry type of humor. I especially love the pharmacist who plays pathologist all the time, she is so funny 😄😄 However i don't know if ZDF content is geo-bloacked maybe in other countries since it a national channel where every german has to pay for normally. Kinda like your BBC i guess ?
I am working for Vodafone and my experience is that the duration getting an Internet connection really depends on the kind of connection you want to get. Cable is the fastest way. But mostly you are waiting weeks, it is how it is 🤷🏻♂️
you can just write a note for your neighbours that there´s a birthday party or something. it could be a little bit lopuder or longer. if you´re cool, you invite your neighbours and everything is fine the most time. no with traffic lights is the reason: the children and accidents. just don´t show ´em how not to do^^
Ok i gotta comment to this. At around 3:08 .. i HATE! when people stand in the middle of the way... whatever you do, you gotta make a call or whatever... why is it so hard to take a single step aside just to get out of the way? i hate when people do this... why should i change my way of walking because a person in standing in the middle of the lane... for example while shopping... the walkways aren't that big... what should i do? climb across the shelves because someone doesn't care for other people and just stand in the middle?! it's the same with extremely slow walking people.... i really really want to say "if you walk a little slower, i get scared you fall asleep while walking" ....
We have a law that tells you how loud you can be. At a normal day you can be that loud, that the neighbor hears in his home 65 db loud. And at night or sunday or on holiday you can be that lout, that the neighbor hears 35db (We call it Zimmerlautstärke (room volume)). The most people dont know the law. They think you need to be that silent that nobody can hear anything. But thats wrong.
6:08 Contrary to what other users have written here, I am convinced that the basic service is a relic of the former state post office. Since most of the network was transferred to Telekom as a successor company, this newly created network monopoly has no incentive to improve the offering. Typically German: Instead of relying on functioning market mechanisms, there is an authority ("Bundesnetzargentur") that is supposed to ensure a minimum level of justice. This works very poorly at the former post office and not at all at the railway. So, once again, the culprit is politics, which leaves consumers behind in favor of a newly founded company (and who knows what advantages this has for the decision-makers at the time). 21:56 The point is that some local waste companies simply won't take incorrectly sorted waste. Of course, this causes equal frustration among the neighbors. In my opinion, it is a big mistake in our policy to give companies the right to simply leave the garbage!
You said drinking in public is considered lower class in the UK, in Germany it's very nuanced. If someone looks very dishevelled and dirty, people will certainly look down on it, but in general I don't feel like there is a negative stigma attached to it.
This rubbish thing: my mother would definetely do that! 😂 But on the other hand she helps foreign neighbours out in giving them or their children tutoring in the German language for example. For free of course. And she gives Christmas presents to every child in the house, not letting them know that it came from her. Aaaand she cares about the right way to handle the rubbish as well. She cares a lot and I like that. So it is neither good nor bad, it is a little bit of both, I assume.
28:48 "blowing their nose loudly at the table" At the table? No, that's disgusting. On public transport? No, that's disgusting. In public, in the streets? Go for it.
Crossing a red light as a pedestrian is mostly frowned upon if children are present since you are setting a bad example. If not I usually don't give a flying frith. You might get fined or your drivers license might in theory get suspended if police catches you doing that but in most cases they too don't care too much. Edith: You do not mess with silent hours and trash sorting. Never.
People most likely would not take the energy to get somebody's rubbish and walk up to them ... But they might comment on it, maybe, as soon as they run into you again.
Hi, Dwayne. Love your videos. Well, referring the garbage lady: there are Karens everywhere, but these kind of things usually don't happen. It was exaggerated. Hmm..could happen in big flats, but not in small towns. Ordering internet service can take time, that's true. And the first appointment can fail. Or it doesn't work at first. So your best friend will become the call center guy / gal 😮 We (younger) Germans love the english language and happily practice when possible. Yt subtitles suck. If you're interested in German movies, look out for comedy. That'll help you understand German culture and humour better. When we buy cans / bottles, we have to pay in advance for deposits. So bringing 'em back is just an exchange. Straight forwardness depends on the situation. When I'm annoyed about something, I ask myself is it worth the hassle (of complaining) ? Yeah, we love plans and hate jaywalking (bc it can be dangerous). Being a good role model for children is important. Sometimes we tend to take on the role of the police 😅 Like everywhere else in the world, many customs depend on the age of the person, in which part of the country you live (north or south), big city or small town. There is a lot of American influence (pop culture, food).🎉
It is not that bad. We still have some internet-cafes! Oh yes, crossing red lights. When I waited at a red light in the UK, I was asked: "Oh, you come from Germany, right?" If the bin is not filled correctly, the bin will not be emptied, so the whole house has a problem. Therfore the people in the house care for a correct filled bin. I you would take the trash out yourself or request the person who did it incorrect to do, or if you take it out and throw it in the right bin, will depend on the individual. But seperating trash is a serious issue.
@@KaiHenningsen no, because I still stood there, while all other walked across red. The last guy who past me, asked this. When I saw once a policeman standing on the other side, I thought: 'Now they will wait!', but the policeman was the first to walk on red. It seems the pedestrian traffic light in the UK is just for illuminating the street.
I think that most Germans are more friendly when they first come into contact with a stranger who causes a problem than is shown in this video. However, if this is unsuccessful, the directness quickly becomes unfriendly and demanding. I would never drop a bag of trash in front of a new neigbour. I would put it into the right bin, in the case that we, as community, would get trouble with the disposal company, and then talk to him friendly.
Garbage... It depends, in some apartment houses you have shared bins. When you throw the wrong things into paper, recycling or organic waste the grabage men may not take it or it will cost extra. Same for the Restmüll, grabage that is not paper, recycling or for the glass containers. If you put stuff there you could have thrown away otherwise you will pay more for it. Other renters of the apartments will remind you on that.
I have to say, people just stopping in the middle of the pavement piss me off, too. Just use the same rules as on the street, if you stop, step to the side.
To the Internet Problem. Yes Technician appointments have a long queue but its not as bad it's displayed here. Usually there is no Technician needed and/or the ISP will send a "Start Box" so you get solid 4G/5G Internet from the get go.
In Austria you just tell the Compsny you are moving. I guess it's not a big deal to just take your Modem ect with you and connect at your New place. Yeah that seems off. Ok it's different if you change the Provider. But that long ? Hhmm don't know. It is faster here even though we are also bureaucratic here. Ok Austria is also smaller but i think it is not an Issue of Weeks to get an Electrician in a shorter Time...or you ask somebody who knows how to do it. Well i just put everything where it belongs, type in the Password. 30 min. and done. What are they doing? Kabel legen oder Glasfaser ? I wonder why it takes so long. For what? Is it a New House..ok maybe but that is done within some hours. Or you just ask more Companies whennthey are available. 1-2 Weeks for a House or Flat without Connection... hhmm..here..everything comes prepared. I mean...the Cities are already changing it so..Many Flats do come with a Connection ..just find a Provider A Contract in a Store..take your Modem and put it to the Telephon Cable Connection. You just find a good Tarif..Payment Condition/Price(?) at a Company you like.. A1, Telekom, Magenta.... Being direct bit not rude...it is for me. Yeah we don't like fake friendly ppl who may smile but think something else about you. Americans do that maybe. It comes off and Shows if somebody is not honest or come across for being over friendly. Authentizität is key. If you come across as fake..we can smell that. Worst bad Impression you can give. Over Dramatic..no. we say what we think. Yeah some ppl are rude but it's a their Problem. Generally Austrians are easy going. Sometimes we do small talk imm a Bus, Tram, Doctor, Train, Underground Train or in a Shop or of something is Happening infront of you or the ppl.Foreigners not much. So if you speak a little bit german...fine...but don't expect all ppl like english. Or speak. Yes we have YT but there are german Programms or Translated..Synchronisation Movies.Movie Titles are always or mostly different than the Original Title. Younger do speak english, less the older Generations.
I cant understand people, who walk on the pavement und suddenly decide to stop. Instead of giving the path free and step to the side, they block the other pedestrians If you need Internet quickly, you can go to a Shop and get it in less than 48hours Also in my eyes, we would rather respond in English cos we just love to take the chance to talk to a native tongue and improve our language We learn English in school....up to 9 years... Its just nice to use it every now and then. We also jaywalk. We normally dont do it, when children are around
"Am besten ignoriert man die Leute einfach" - no, the best thing is to first see if there's a better place to stand with less blocking of the way. Which is often the case. Of course, even better if you do that even before you annoy others. Once you've done that, *then* you ignore the people complaining. And why do I even have to explain that? Losing hope in humanity yet again ... "We live in a society where Internet is everything" ... and so everybody wants it and technician's calendars are overflowing. Of course, they *could* hire more of them ... but then they'd need to raise their prices - see where this is going? Don't you love capitalism? ... Also, you forget the existence of mobile phones. You still have Internet. Just expensive and slow. And yes, you can tell your phone to produce WiFi for your other devices. The technology is there - just expensive. Not bio trash: that *could* mean that the whole bin ends up not being collected, which, given that it tends to stink, is certainly something the neighbors would get upset about. And the collectors certainly have an interest in those rules - this stuff breaks recycling. Don't do that. But busybodies in general, the really annoying ones are those who are wrong about the rules they want to enforce. And watching this stuff, how confrontational or not it is never entered my mind. How justified it is or isn't did.
5:40 btw. Dwayne do you have an twitch channel? 12:01 Hubert und Staller / Hubert ohne Staller (crime/comedy) , something from Loriot or Heinz Erhardt (comedy) 24:58 Made a comment on the other video because of this situation ^^
@@dwayneslens Well, it's quite ok and is not only used by gamers. Twitch is for everyone who likes to act live with their audience/comunity, such as: artists of all kinds (music, painting, DJing or just chatting, etc.). But it can be a bit complicated to set up.
I dont like it when people blow their noses at the dinner table. Thats disgusting. But some people do it here. Blowing the nose in front of people is totaly normal in germany.
I don't get why people are embarrassed about someone blowing their nose in public. I mean, if you have to blow it, you have to blow it, right? Or would it be better to snuffle nonstop?
15:10, oh believe me Germans can be very very very passive aggressive like that. 21:11 a german would have yelled down "is that compostable!?" - going after people with their bing bag is a thing only people with too much time do aka. pensioneers.
Gibt also auch gerechtfertigte Gründe
Crossing the street on a red light is an a offence and can earn you a on the spot fine, but if done in front of "children" it shows you are a dangerous and irresponsible person. This will earn you gasps or a loud angry telling off by the public! 😮🤬 My mother was German living in the UK and was never afraid to tell you your faults or her opinions, so she was immediately hated by everyone!
Oh no you don't say that. DUDE, never heard about the famous german Guilt. They carry, we carry it. Well anyways thanks for leasing us back to Humanity after the War. Love me some Scotsman or an English Gent like Mr. Hiddleston or Cumberbatch.. cäCumberland..sorry. Sherlock..hehe. British Humor...brillant...and at Football you have the best Songs you sing..even if you loose...too good ! I ve just tried Baked Beans ect, not the Pudding yet but Tea Time....Scones..send some..love it. Like them or not but God save the King and the Brits. Lots of Love from Austria. Would love to visit London, the South, Scotland ect. But why do you call it Pudding..it's not liquid and i don't know if it's a fruit cake or not cause of the...many Variants 😊😅 (TVA, Loki, you know)
Many Internet Providers in germany offer a free internet access via 4g/5g for the waiting time. So you usually have an internet connection within hours if you visit a local store or within 1-2 days if you order online.
The statement regarding the Internet is wrong and therefore not correct. So I got my internet set up within 2 days, every time I moved. I am a Telekom customer
If you are loud we will tell you. Inna friendly way if it's first or more unfriendly if it's regulary. We wantvto keep the Peace with Neighbours but..Same in Austria. Here we may knock on Walls, some are very angry and scream to shut the f up...butvwe a Twist. Maybe with a Joke..a dry one or being creative with the Aggression..call you sort of things or phrases we use. It is in the Hausordnung. But we are maybe bad at Recycling cause we have it but not that strict. I would like it. Also more Pfand Bottles. Austria has but less. New Lawsvare coming or are already in. Not sure. They wanted to cjange something..doing it the german Way to Recycle.
German movies I find quite funny are, for example "Goodbye Lenin". This one teaches you a bit about German history as well. It is about an old lady that fell into a coma when the GDR still exised. She wakes up right after the reunification, and the doctors say that the shocks from the change might be too big for her to survive. So, her children and grandchildren play GDR for her, which has a lot of funny consequences. A nice kid?s movie, nothing special but just nice, is "die Schule der magischen Tiere". My kids loved it, it is about a school where kids can get magical animals that turn into plushies when grown ups are around but can talk like humans and interact with the kids when they are alone with them. Quite an artistic movie is quite old and it is called "Lola rennt" a German action movie where a young lady has to get 100.000 Euros in order to prevent her criminal boyfriend from being killed within 20 hours. And believe me, you will learn from a German if you annoy him. People are extremely direct here.
I know germans they do lock ther garbage can that nobody else can use it or put the wrong garbage in it.^^ I never done something like that. But a lot of people do it
We say: "Er ist ein richtiger alman." It means: He is an real alman! (Alman is the turkish word for germans) But not in a good way. Its more: He is one of the annoying germans. We also call it spiesser what means philistine. And the younger germans are way different. The most of that stuff only applies to the old ones.
It is not cool to have loud Neighbours. Had 2 different as a Child. My Dad, Mum and wecas Kids could not sleep..terrible Ar*holes. It is not like we have paper thin Walls but..use your Headphones and stop bothering use with Noise. We handle that now not 2 days later.
in Germany all movies and series are dubbed, so even if the original would be in english we hear it in german, that´s also a reason why Germans are not that great in speaking english 😉
Ahh I didn't know that. In countries like Sweden they tend to just watch it in Swedish. I actually think Germans are great at English. At least the young Germans I've met on my travels.
@@reinhard8053 Happens in Sydney also... recycling bin was contaminated.
I heard that in Bielefeld a woman got a fine for littering because she did this ☹
@@DerAlteMann1974 For this reason, more and more german cities are installing small tablets or holders for deposit bottles on the sides or tops of public garbage cans
Mann, Mann, Mann…. Ist auch wichtig - find ich!
Agree, watched that recently after i was done wth "Friesland", its a bit more over the top but very funny. Only the last season was not so good after they changed the main characters.
Meine Ma guckt das immer. Deshalb hab ich automatisch angenommen, mir würde es nicht gefallen. 😂Ich schau dann wohl doch mal rein. 🙈
@@Winona493 Schau mal rein. Echt lustig!
They all can't put their new trash into the bin if it's already full from the previous week,
You could react to:"How anyone, including you, can read german",fantastic video ,and eye-opening to english speakers.
What a great list.Thanks :).
My first thougt was also 'Lola rennt' or 'Knocking on heavens door', 'Der Nachname', 'Gegen die Wand', 'Soulkitchen', 'Kebab connection' and so on...
EDIT: I mean the 1981 TV show that was made into the 3 hour movie, NOT the one from 2018!
Ich muss zugeben das ich so gut wie nie Videos auf UA-cam anschaue.
Was soll ich sagen ich liebe es deine Videos anzuschauen ❤
Just moved in Germany, signed the contract and ordered internet. Internet was available before i even started moving - and without the need of a technician to visit.
*Because* there was no need for a technician.
Liam carpenter is also funny and germanized 😂
Well, you can survive without the internet, but not without water.
If you take people's SIM cards out of their smartphones today, they'll be unconscious!😂
When you are planning to move, you should check the internet and make an early appointment with the provider. Than it will be not a long time to get the Internet in the new appartement. 😊
The Garbage thing ist, when it is in the wrong container, it could happen that the garbage will not be picked up or you get a fee.
Well, `could be true!...🤔....😉
The thing with the waste: Hm, ...I would rather say, people who really put out the waste of the bin an bring it back to the "owner" are maybe bored and frustrated!!! 😅(I have never seen somebody who acts like that). There's more complaining and I've seen pieces of paper with complaints posted up in the trash room or in the hallway! (We also have many "watching Suzie`s")!!!🤣
But on the other side I see many immigrants (and maybe refugees) who dont`t give a shit about their waste and cause a big mess.
Jaywalking is not gonna be frowned upon but crossing the street with a red light certainly is.
... which is a case of jaywalking.
@@KaiHenningsen Okay, I had a different preception. 😇
yeah, the straightforwardness is something i like too, you just know what people think then, instead that you think everything is alright and they talk behind your back... and concerning the quiet times, there are officiall rules, but it all depends on your neighbours.
I´m german and you are the first english channel i subscribed to.
Can you react more often to videos by easy german?
And why do you live in Thailand?
i like your content. It's very easy to anderstand you 👍
6:30 Avenue Q sure taught us what the internet is for. 😅😂
12:00 "Dark" is a very good german TV show series :)
Concerning Telephone and Internet access….
I moved to the north of Germany, working as an equine vet in a very small village, sometimes >90hrs a week, and unfortunately the neighboring farmer had a personal vendetta with the local Telecom Access box and had deposited a huge bale of hay in front of it…
So after waiting forever for a technician, having to invite my mum to come be there because I wasn’t sure I‘d be there at the appointed time, I then had to do it all over again with the additional obstacle having to get another farmer with his tractor to come and remote the big bale of hay from another village, because everyone in my village was too afraid of the cow farmer and his choleric temper to chance and remove the bale of hay,…
It was a major undertaking which took me more than two weeks to finally have internet in my flat…🧐
I would recommend you watching German comedy films, like '7 Zwerge allein im Wald' and 'Traumschiff Surprise'. They are a bit difficult to understand due to dialects and very casual German language, but they show good German humour and almost every German knows them.
@ 3:08 (being in the way)
You can clearly see that there was a lot of space behind the young man. Most people would have taken three steps back!
It's the same in the supermarket. Some people stop in the middle of the aisle with the large shopping cart instead of moving to the side. It would be nice if people kept in mind that they are not alone at a place…
internet
It depends. If there is everything installed already - e.g. because the person before you had internet - and if you then choose the same company it can be quite fast (no technician needed). I could just take my cable modem to another place and use it without doing anything else. I tried it and it DID work!
Anyhow, from which year is the video? There is _no_ link or anything else regarding the video you react to in the description.
language
In general it's just being nice. I would like that if I was in an alien country. Everythging is foreighn already. It would make me feel good if people would speak German.
However he explicitly asked them to speak English - in that case if was rude not to follow that.
Rules
regulate how we live together.
It happens that people go to bed at 22: 00 here because they know that they can find sleep (no or very little sound) and that their sleep won't be interrupted.
jaywalking 😉
So there are traffic rules but they only apply to motorised vehicles/drivers and not to pedestrians?
Anyhow, many pople ignore the light here IF there are no children thet could see you. It's more likely to happen if there is not traffic at all - like at 03: 00 or sunday afternoon in Podunk or residental zones.
rubbish
No, people would not really do that.
So there is a financial aspect to this!
actually "Nachtruhe" (night resting time) and separating household rubbish are not only common courtesy but are also regulated by law. 😉
Please be aware for your upcoming trip to Germany that in some places, even if alcohol is allowed, glas bottles or cups can still be prohibited.
Regarding directness of Germans, we have this saying:
Germans are too honest to be polite. British are too polite to be honest.
P.S.: In general I prefer honesty and my wife usually hates me for this. 😁
That's a great saying and so true haha
I especially love the pharmacist who plays pathologist all the time, she is so funny 😄😄
However i don't know if ZDF content is geo-bloacked maybe in other countries since it a national channel where every german has to pay for normally. Kinda like your BBC i guess ?
I am working for Vodafone and my experience is that the duration getting an Internet connection really depends on the kind of connection you want to get. Cable is the fastest way. But mostly you are waiting weeks, it is how it is 🤷🏻♂️
Sweden started using the "pant" system for cans and PET-bottles in 1984 (and for glass bottles in 1885), so yeah, you're a bit behind, UK ;)
I was just done working on your last video and here is the next one🥵😅
you can just write a note for your neighbours that there´s a birthday party or something. it could be a little bit lopuder or longer. if you´re cool, you invite your neighbours and everything is fine the most time. no with traffic lights is the reason: the children and accidents. just don´t show ´em how not to do^^
Hello, I love "Sing meinen Song, das Tauschkonzert". Viel Spaß dabei!
The Lady must have the "wrong" internet provider. I moved 4 times by now and always had internet right away, even when changing the provider.
Behavior counts as well. If you're acting visibly drunk, well, there's certainly stigma.
28:48 "blowing their nose loudly at the table"
At the table? No, that's disgusting.
On public transport? No, that's disgusting.
In public, in the streets? Go for it.
Crossing a red light as a pedestrian is mostly frowned upon if children are present since you are setting a bad example.
If not I usually don't give a flying frith.
You might get fined or your drivers license might in theory get suspended if police catches you doing that but in most cases they too don't care too much.
Edith:
You
do
not
mess with silent hours and trash sorting.
Never.
People most likely would not take the energy to get somebody's rubbish and walk up to them ... But they might comment on it, maybe, as soon as they run into you again.
Hi, Dwayne. Love your videos.
Well, referring the garbage lady:
there are Karens everywhere, but these kind of things usually don't happen. It was exaggerated.
Hmm..could happen in big flats, but not in small towns.
Ordering internet service can take time, that's true. And the first appointment can fail. Or it doesn't work at first. So your best friend will become the call center guy / gal 😮
We (younger) Germans love the english language and happily practice when possible.
Sometimes we tend to take on the role of the police 😅
Like everywhere else in the world, many customs depend on the age of the person, in which part of the country you live (north or south), big city or small town. There is a lot of American influence (pop culture, food).🎉
Great movie called "Honig im Kopf"
It is not that bad. We still have some internet-cafes!
Oh yes, crossing red lights. When I waited at a red light in the UK, I was asked: "Oh, you come from Germany, right?"
If the bin is not filled correctly, the bin will not be emptied, so the whole house has a problem. Therfore the people in the house care for a correct filled bin. I you would take the trash out yourself or request the person who did it incorrect to do, or if you take it out and throw it in the right bin, will depend on the individual.
But seperating trash is a serious issue.
_When I waited at a red light in the UK, I was asked: "Oh, you come from Germany, right?"_ Was it because you didn't queue correctly?
I always sound like an elephant. But I always politely say sorry afterwards
"Internet is my LIFE" ; "Internet is EVERYTHING". Yeah, that's the main reason why the world is going to hell in a handbasket.
Nick looks like Christian Bale. Especially at the Outro
Instead of giving the path free and step to the side, they block the other pedestrians
If you need Internet quickly, you can go to a Shop and get it in less than 48hours
Also in my eyes, we would rather respond in English cos we just love to take the chance to talk to a native tongue and improve our language
We learn English in school....up to 9 years...
Its just nice to use it every now and then.
We also jaywalk. We normally dont do it, when children are around
These are extreme stereotypes. Most German people would not knock if the music is still on after 10 or tell other people that they are in the way.
FIlm: Honig im Kopf. (2014), Lieber Kurt, Keinohrhase, Manta Manta, Knockin' on heavens door, 666 - Traue keinem Teufel mit dem du schläfst, 7 Zwerge
5:40 btw. Dwayne do you have an twitch channel?
12:01 Hubert und Staller / Hubert ohne Staller (crime/comedy) , something from Loriot or Heinz Erhardt (comedy)
24:58 Made a comment on the other video because of this situation ^^
I don't have a Twitch, I've never even been on the site. Is it any good? Or is it just for gamers?
@@dwayneslens Well, it's quite ok and is not only used by gamers.
Twitch is for everyone who likes to act live with their audience/comunity, such as: artists of all kinds (music, painting, DJing or just chatting, etc.).
But it can be a bit complicated to set up.
Imagine, there was a life before the internet. How did people manage that...?
There is no shame in a body functioning the way it is supposed to…. One should be ashamed of one‘s failures, not of one‘s nose running….!
so how long in the uk for internet ??
I dont like it when people blow their noses at the dinner table. Thats disgusting. But some people do it here. Blowing the nose in front of people is totaly normal in germany.
I don't get why people are embarrassed about someone blowing their nose in public. I mean, if you have to blow it, you have to blow it, right? Or would it be better to snuffle nonstop?
15:10, oh believe me Germans can be very very very passive aggressive like that. 21:11 a german would have yelled down "is that compostable!?" - going after people with their bing bag is a thing only people with too much time do aka. pensioneers.
We have really bad internet in germany. Because the companys doesnt reinvest. Again the bad infrastructure
A good series to learn german is "Derrick". It is bit old and maybe a little bit dry for modern standards, but they speak very clearly and correctly.
Gibt also auch gerechtfertigte Gründe
Gehweg kommt von Gehen und Weg xD
heißt ja nicht stehweg 🤣
Crossing the street on a red light is an a offence and can earn you a on the spot fine, but if done in front of "children" it shows you are a dangerous and irresponsible person. This will earn you gasps or a loud angry telling off by the public! 😮🤬 My mother was German living in the UK and was never afraid to tell you your faults or her opinions, so she was immediately hated by everyone!
Blowing your nose in public is a no go for me and i think for most of other germans too.
But why do you call it Pudding..it's not liquid and i don't know if it's a fruit cake or not cause of the...many Variants 😊😅 (TVA, Loki, you know)
Babylon Berlin TV series is simply great.❤🤯 Likewise Das Boot The Boat.
Many Internet Providers in germany offer a free internet access via 4g/5g for the waiting time. So you usually have an internet connection within hours if you visit a local store or within 1-2 days if you order online.
That's not entirely true. It's normal to blow your nose, but if you turn your head away from the table, anyone who doesn't do that has no manners
The statement regarding the Internet is wrong and therefore not correct. So I got my internet set up within 2 days, every time I moved. I am a Telekom customer
ZDF heute Show … Satire
Who Am I - Kein System ist sicher
But a lot of people do it
Bang Boom Bang
Lola Rennt

Manta Manta
Der Eisbär
I moved 3 times in my life, 1 time because neighbors were too loud.
in Germany all movies and series are dubbed, so even if the original would be in english we hear it in german, that´s also a reason why Germans are not that great in speaking english 😉
Ahh I didn't know that. In countries like Sweden they tend to just watch it in Swedish. I actually think Germans are great at English. At least the young Germans I've met on my travels.
