Same in France - you need both the triangle and vest. I don't know whether anyone remembers the German clothes creator for Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, recently passed away. He made an ad wearing the vest, which is certainly not "Haute Culture", saying that : ok I know it's not very fashionable, but it saves lives.

The amount of vest you have to have is set by the number of people in your car. That means if you are alone, one vest is enough, but if there are more you need as many vests as passengers, so 2 vests for 2 people and 3 for 3, you get the drill.

I think, this triangle is another /first thing of safety, and from earlier days. I remember that we had a sign, that matches the road sign, when I was a kid. We hadn't west, indicaters yes, but the triangle had to be set in a spot, so that other drivers could react to it.

Another reason is that it's kinda common for roads to have ridges or turns. generally speaking^^
Often there is no chance to get early eyes on the crashsite or the the broken down car from hundreds of meters distance. Sometimes its right behind a turn without emergency lane for example. It's always usefull to be warned about an obstruction ahead before you ran into it and just created a bigger crash.

The Triangle, a „Warndreieck“, is necessary in every car or big vehicle. You had to put it up to 200 meters behind your car after an accident or a brakedown. If you are behind a curve you had it put down 100-200 meters bevore that curve.
Also by law you had to have a warnwest in the car.
In a city you normally had to drive 50 km/h in special suburbs to streets you had to drive 30 km/h in a 30 km/h Zone.
Sometimes you can put the bottles with deposit near a trashbox, so that homeless or poor people can collect the deposit and had not to go literally in the trash to collect the bottles.

School-system: Germany recognized long before the UK that everyone should receive (school-)education, not just the rich. Therefore, craftsmen have a very good general education, especially when compared internationally. And that is also reflected in the earnings: According to a study, an academic earns 1.45 million euros at the age of 65, while a craftsman earns 1.41 million. If you look at lifetime income up to the age of 60, the craftsman is even ahead. Craftsmen (& women) enjoy a very high reputation in Germany, compared to other nations.

I probably would go so far to say, that a craftperson, that knows its trait, is worth his/her weight in gold!
It took me more then 3 years to find an oven builder with time to renovate my tiled stove (due to regulations) and even then I still had to wait 1 year to get it done. All because a lot of parents "push" their kids into academics simple for "reputation" ... (*)
For the renovation of my house, I still need specialised craftsmen/-women, who are hard to get, simply of overfull calendars ("come back in 2-3 years" is a response I heard several times ...)
(*) I'm a tutor out of passion and had many a fight on my hands to get the parents acknowledge, that their kid would do better in "Hauptschule" and afterwards with a trait apprenticeship. I failed on a regular basis, as the parents want their kid to "be better", whatever that meant.

2:40 The triangle is far older than using the turn signal as hazard lights. Those triangles are obligatory for any car for more than 50 years, are folded for transport and have to be placed about 100 steps behind the broken car or the accident. Even if the turn signals are broken, those triangles do still work...
3:35 Keeping a warning vest in your car is obligatory in Germany since 2014, in Austria since 2005, in Belgium since 2007, in France since 2008, ... It is now obligatory in most EU countries.
7:55 You can even get detachable trailer couplings for sports cars in Germany. ua-cam.com/video/vUK8Rb8CG-Q/v-deo.html
9:13 The yellow town signs invoke the rule "max 50 kph in built-up areas". Some towns reduce the speed limit to 30 kph by additional signs, but that needs the approval by the district government and can be limited to night hours. Sometimes the speed limit is raised to 60kph (by additional signs) at multi-lane thoroughfares. There are also "30 kph zones" in residential areas announced by special signs; within such zones there are also no stop or yield signs or traffic lights at crossings; it is always "right before left": you have to give yield to cars or bikes coming from your right.
16:00 It can have benefits in the upper grades, but I think the split should not occur before 6th or 7th grade. Haupt- or Oberschule and Realschule lead into vocational schooling, which then can also give access to university, but at a slower pace. The defenders of the system say it prevents parents from pushing their children into "academia" instead of giving them the chance to find a vocation suitable to their talents and interests - but on the other hand it is proven by many studies, that children of academics tend to get into the academic track and children of factory workers tend to get into the Hauptschul track regardless of the individual intelligence and abilities. So this system is not working very well, but heavily defended by conservatives as well as elitists.
Gymnasium does not focus on sports (at least any more), but it was the name given in the 19th century to the higher schools for boys (formerly know as Latin Schools), while the higher schools for girls was called Lyzeum. Nowadays it is the general name for schools leading to the Abitur exam which gives access to university; there are "Humanistic" ones (teaching Latin and other traditional courses), "Natural science" ones and "Vocational" or "Economics" ones (mostly visited by pupils coming from the vocational tracks). The "Comprehensive" schools are only available in some states and are mostly the remnants of earlier approaches to reform the system; they try to integrate the academic and the vocational track in the same school and allow for later splitting.
25:20 US Americans got it the wrong way round: Communism is if you don't pay for the things you got. If you have to pay for your plastic bag, you are in market-based economy.

2:30 The warn triangle is placed 50m away from the car in urban areas and 200m away on highways or countryside streets. If there is a bend or a hill you should place the triangle before the bend or hill when your car broke down behind the bend or hill. Another thing is the triangle still works as a sign for danger even if your cars indicators and lights do not work. The triangle and the vest are mandated by law and vans and trucks have to have more than one triangle and vest because of the size of the vehicles.

    Dear Dwayne's Lens,
the school system in Germany is actually not very complicated, it just varies from state to state and the names of the different schools vary.
From the 1st to the 4th grade it is the primary school.
After the first half of the 4th grade, the student “applies” to one of the continuing schools with their certificate.
The application is usually based on grades, but in some federal states parents can decide for themselves which type of school they want for their child and the teachers only make a recommendation.
However, schools can also decide against applicants, which is why good references are usually important for admission to good continuing schools.
But it also happens that schools have to accept fewer good applicants due to a lack of applicants.
    The continuing schools are:
    Hauptschulen (5th-10th grade): possible qualifications:
    Hauptschule diploma after grade 9
    Realschule diploma after grade 10
Realschule diploma with qualification for upper secondary school level (only
at Haupschule with a second foreign language possible from grade 7)
    Realschulen (grades 5-10): possible qualifications
    Hauptschule diploma after grade 9
    Realschule diploma after grade 10
Realschule diploma with qualification for upper secondary school level
Gymnasium (High school) (5th-12th or 13th grade) possible qualifications:
    Hauptschule diploma after grade 9
    Realschule diploma after grade 10
Realschule diploma with qualification for upper secondary school level
Abitur after grade 12 or 13 (university entrance qualification)
    Gesammtschule (5th - 12th or 13th grade) possible qualifications:
    Hauptschule diploma after grade 9
    Realschule diploma after grade 10
Realschule diploma with qualification for upper secondary school level
Abitur after grade 12 or 13 (university entrance qualification)
In Germany, almost all professions are linked to either training or study.
The training is a 2-3 year apprenticeship that usually combines a dual vocational school and workplace and ends with a practical and theoretical exam, either according to the IHK (Chamber of Industry and Commerce) or HK (Chamber of Crafts).
What it boils down to is that everyone who has completed the German school system followed by training or study has at least 11 years of schooling (usually more like 12+).
Quite a few high school graduates do not go to university but instead do vocational training (14-16 years of schooling).
In the past, people were often considered overqualified, but in the last 15 years a number of new training occupations have been created that previously only required a relatively short training period.
If you would like to know more about it, just ask.
    cheers

The hazard warning lights don't help you when you're behind a bend. And please don't forget that a different speed limit applies in Germany. If you break down on the highway and can't make it to the hard shoulder and cars without a speed limit come speeding up. Then it is helpful if they know that something is coming 200m before your car arrives and they can slow down.

It is a law requirement to have the following in your vehicle: 1. Warning triangle 2. First aid kit 3. A safety vest for each vehicle occupant Imagine you stop behind a bend in your car because of a defect, or an accident on the motorway. The "warning triangle" warns the following traffic, "Attention: accident or broken-down vehicle 200 metres away". Now the other road users will change lanes, drive more slowly and possibly switch on their hazard lights. This will prevent further accidents, injuries or even deaths. "Safety vests" also help with this.

  • @ThorDyrden
    @ThorDyrden 9 місяців тому +3

The warning-triangle makes so much sense, as you blinkers are on your car... so you can only see them the moment you see the car. Behind a curve already is an issue... the triange should be place 200m back on the road to already warn: "slow down / pay attention - something is coming". Also - your car broke down - maybe your blinkers are not working any more?
The vest is law in Germany - and many other countries. In deed our neighbour-countries are partly even more strict requiring one vest for each passenger etc.

In german in the end you can boil it down to 3 paths :
    1. Hauptschule - 9 years - after that you make a 3 year vocational training as car mechanic, plumber or staff like that
    2. Realschule - 10 years - after that you mostly do 3 year vocational training but more in some office jobs
    3. Gymnasium - 13 years - after that you mostly go to university to become lawyer, doctor .. or stuff like that
Now all the other things like "Gesamtschule" is just that you have all these 3 paths in the same physical building and you can maybe go for some hours to the "higher dificulty" path and if you are good enough even switch to that at some point.
Also i had the "Orientierungsstufe" (year 5 and 6) where we in the end only finally selected to one of the 3 paths after 6 years and not already after 4 years. Personally i think thats better also.
After all i heared, in the US more or less everybody goes to high-school, what maybe our "gymnasium" (that hasn't to do anything at all with sports) and then if they don't get a high payed office job and "end up" to do just dirty hand-work, they have no clue in their job because they didn't had a proper education in that job, and so all handy worker are often terrible.

As always a great video, thanks for that ^^
Explanation and my opinion: 1.) In addition to the first aid kit, a warning triangle must be present in the car by law! Also a safety vest for every person in the car and at least one rescue blanket. If these things are not present during a traffic check, this can result in severe fines. 2) Regarding the "normal" cars that campers tow: sometimes I think that Americans focus more on status symbols than on functionality... The bigger the car, the "better" the owner... Pretty stupid for me as a German *smile* 3.) prescribed speeds: here, too, attention is paid to simplicity. In urban areas 50 kmh (or 30, which is signposted separately), on country roads 100 kmh and on the highway 130 kmh as the correct speed, as long as nothing else is specified or there may be NO limit. 4) Deposit: the deposit is included in the price of the respective bottle, so you pay it first and then get it back in the form of a coupon at the machine and can then present this coupon at the cash desk. 5.) the school system is also very simple and efficient (no wonder 😂): instead of forcing children into a school career in which they would inevitably fail due to a possible lack of ability, we enable our children to have a stress-free school experience - based on their abilities/interests, the types of school are suggested by the teachers. However, it is not a MUST to follow this recommendation! In addition, there is always the option to switch between the different types of school (continue and achieve a higher qualification or go back if the chosen type of school proves to be too difficult). This system has absolutely NOTHING to do with the social class the child comes from ^^ 6.) Gas stations: yep, I agree - Americans don't trust their own countrymen! What a shame... 7) Plastic bags: there is absolutely NO reason why anyone should use plastic bags! I've been used to going shopping with my own collapsible boxes and an insulated bag for frozen food since I was a kid - and I'm still alive ^^ if I ever need to shop spontaneously on the go, I buy a fabric bag or paper bag at the checkout...

Splitting kids up into different academic tracks based on their grades and general performance in primary school makes some sense when you consider that at the Gymnasium the range of subjects is wider, and you won't be held back by those students who are ... well, a bit more average, or just not academically inclined/gifted. And if you're a late bloomer (or find out you can't hack it after all), you can always switch tracks. Also, the teachers will recommend to the parents which academic track would be most suited to their child -- which can be ignored at their own risk.
Re: bags, most grocery stores don't do plastic at all anymore. You bring your own bag, or buy sturdy paper bags, often in 2 sizes, buy a reusable sturdy bags made of plastic or fabric, or can buy a carry box. Very few stores give out free bags anymore. (Fun fact: Our neighbor produces single-use plastic bags for meat counters and the like, which could leak without them. He told us that the paper bags you get at the cashiers, usually "eco-friendly" brown paper, has actually been dyed to make it look as if it hasn't been bleached. Oh-kay ....)

The advantage of the school system is that children are guided into working life specifically according to their abilities, e.g. to reach secondary school you need fewer good grades, but you can do a craft apprenticeship more quickly. It is not a system of value judgement. A good craftsman can usually afford a house more quickly than an academic and earns similarly well. The system is now very permeable, you can change the type of school at any time or catch up on any qualification you want on the so-called second school route. In the past, the primary school determined which secondary school the children went to, nowadays they only make recommendations, but you are free to choose.

The German school system is based on “efficiency” and not on social status, as in the USA, for example
If someone is too stupid for the job of an investment manager, why waste money on a "high school" education!?
Then those “specialists” come out who have done their “doctor” through C R T or have simply learned to “dance their name” in the language of the blind ;) instead of being sorted out by trained psychologists and learning a skilled trade.....
In addition, someone can continue their education afterwards if they have found their "vocation" in the "VHS" evening school courses as an adult...!
You know the jokes about the gynecologist who retrained as a painter?
He passed the exam with 200%!!! Why ?! He painted the entire apartment through the mailbox slot!! xoxoxo
or the proctologist who has retrained to become a car mechanic?
He also passed the exam with 150% marks
He thought the examiner had made a mistake and asked him "what's the 150% for?, isn't there an error in there?!" And the inspector says 50% for dismantling the engine, 50% for reassembling it correctly and I gave another 50% extra because I've never seen someone do that through the exhaust pipe!

    18:00 No it's a good system.
The advantage is that you have basically three types of school after elementary school: Hauptschule, which is more geared towards vocational training, Realschule, which is a middle ground school and Gymnasium, which is geared towards kids that show promise in sciences etc. which leads to university.
There's also the Gesamtschule which is all three combined.
You can move from one to another though, e.g. I was in Realschule from 5th to 10th grade then got my so called Q-Vermerk which stands for qualification notice meaning I was allowed to go to Gymnasium for 11th to 12th or 13th grade. I went to Gesamtschule for that, got my Abitur (which you need to go to university) and am studying law now.
The advantage is that the "slow kids" are not holding the faster ones back so much while not being left behind because the class has to move on faster than they can manage. Instead the "slow kids" get special attention which they wouldn't get in a mixed class because the fast kids would be neglected if you'd give the slow ones the same level of attention.

The warning triangle, one warning vest and one first aid kit are required by law. There are rules by law when you are required to use the warning triangle, but not for the vest. So the vest is only mandatory to be in the car, but for your own protection it would make sense to use it when it's dark and when you walk your 200 steps back to put the triangle next to the road.

  • @Garfield0431

both, the triangle and the vest you have to have in your car by law. Sometimes there are policy checks. The officers - maybe - check also if you have these thinks in your car.
The triangle is most helpful when your car breaks down in a curve. You take out the triangle and go back till the beginning of the curve, putting down the sign to warn any other driver about the broken car. The vest helps in the evening and night when every cat is grey ;-) and nobody can see you.

the thing with the glasbottles is wrong, glasbottles consume much more energie in producing and transportation. you need way more fuel to transport the same amount of of waterbottles if you use glas, because every bottle is way heavier then a similar plastic bottle. the way to go are reusable plastic bottles like we use them for decades in germany.

    • @RustyDust101
      @RustyDust101 9 місяців тому

There is a downside to reusable plastic bottles. Instead of being treated with nearly boiling water to be cleaned and decontaminated, they require a certain toxin to kill off all bacteria inside before they can be refilled. Plastic bottles simply can't take high heat before deforming. The toxin is water soluble and denatures after a fairly short time under normal circumstances. There are however edge cases where traces of this 'cleaning agent' MAY (!) remain inside the bottles even if rinsed out.
The next is that plastic bottles slowly release the chemical softening agents that make them semi-flexible into the liquids they store over time.
Neither of these two occur with glass bottles. As such glass bottles have a higher energy cost, agreed, but they are also far less reactive to the liquids stored in them. Both have their pros and cons.

    There are flaws of course.
I am this old, we had grades on the general conduct and a written evaluation on every school certificaty, for the whole year and for the half year.
I got often written that I distract my neighbours.
School was very easy for me. When you finish your tasks earlier you get bored and talk to the other kids around.
I really have no understanding for the point some people make: When you mix the smarter kids with the others, they can help the others kids and push them.

  • @TheJohnnycab5

In Germany it is required by law to keep at least one highvis vest in the car as well as the Triangle and the first aid kit (which has an expiration date, by the way). Here in Austria it is mandatory to keep a vest for every seat in the car, i.e. a seven seater needs seven vests even if you drive alone most of the time. My neighbour just got a ticket. He had 5 vests in his seven seater. He never even folds up seats 6 and 7. Didn't help him.
In Germany as well as in Austria it is always 50km/h in towns unless it's the Autobahn or it is otherwise stated. Easypeasy!
Concerning the school system: As someone who went through this, I think it's fantastic! I understand that from the outside it looks confusing, and some might think that it is something that is forced upon the kids and puts them on a path that they can never get away from, which couldn't be further from the truth. The decision is made with teachers and parents together, taking the strenghts and weaknesses, (and the grades of course) into account. This way you avoid academic miracle children to be bored and underwhelmed in high school (because teachers might try to accomodate for slower learning kids) or on the other hand having those kids who are not interested in higher Algebra (and the sciences, literatur, etc.) being constantly overwhelmed and frustrated. Further, the kids can move up if after some time they change their minds or suddenly find interest in a university education (or vice versa). It is not at all chiseled in stone what you do after those first years in whatever school path you take.

The reflective triangle can be placed before a curve so drivers already know that they have to slow down soon, even if they can't see the warning indicator lights. The triangle always works, even in a rear end accident where the rear ending car spins out and faces the opposite direction. Meaning in this rare case no indicator lights would work to show the accident area. Or if an accident involved spilled oil or petrol before you reach the site of the crashed vehicles, you will at least have a warning that something hazardous may be on the road that isn't easily visible.
Yepp, both the triangle and one warning vest per passenger is mandated by law. Plus a first aid kit. If your car gets checked and doesn't have all of these items you might get a fine (the cops have a bit of leeway).

The good point in german school system is, you got from every path you take the possibilities to go to university or technical oriented university (Fachhochschule). The parting after sometimes 4th grade or 6th grade should ensure the children get the right school for their learning speed. Some children have a quicker learning pace as others or can spend more time learning or even got some help from parents or tutors at home. In Gymnasium (not sports related) the learning pace is a lot faster and also can get a wider range of topics or a specialized path for example to science with math, physics or history and art and many more. This is all goverment/country supported but there are also specilized schools you can go to like a language school that has the target to get you the common knowledge up to 10th class like the Real- or Hauptschule but focus on being almost fluent in 3-4 languages. I went the way of primary school up to 4th grad, Hauptschule up to 6th grade because of my slow learning speed, )you can also directly go to Realschule after primary school) then changed to Realshule up to the 10th grade and got really good at learning. Did an apprenticeship, returned for weekend-class to prepare for school in my last apprentice year and did the 11th grade to technical restricted university entry exam level (you can also do the 12th grade for unrestricted university entry but you got to pass 4 years worth language traning skills exam for a second foreign language) and then did my Diploma of Engineering in a technical oriented university.

In Germany the occupations are structured after the old apprenticeship system. Nearly every occupation has a training period of 2 to 3 years where you don't get paid the full salary (usually you are young enough so you still live with your parents), but your employer has to train you in your job, which goes together with a mandatory school for your occupation. In after your apprenticeship you should know everything you need to know to do your job. You will be tested, so any future employer will know how well you know your stuff.
In some occupations you will also be certified for things you are not allowed to do without certification. For example, only an electrician can work on the main fuse of a house.
Even just being a sales person has such an apprenticeship. Knowing this even I was surprised that there is even such an apprenticeship to play in a Hand Puppet Theatre.
And differently from the USA, these occupations are not being seen as some 'lower' job and only a college education counts.
That's what the 'lower' school prepares you for, but as others have mentions it's not as strict as it sounds.

    1. Yes, the triangle (Warndreieck), one reflecting vest per passenger and an emergency kit are mandated by law in Germany. If the police pulls you over for a random traffic control (allgemeine Verkehrskontrolle), they might even make you show it to them.
    5. No, the Pfand is indeed added to the sales price. So it says "0.75€ zzgl. 0.25€ Pfand". So the actual price of the bottle would be 1€. And also keep in mind that if you buy a six-pack of e.g. Coca Cola, there'll be Pfand on every bottle, meaning you pay 1.50€ on top of the sales price.
But Pfand does not only apply to plastic bottles, but also to cans (also 0.25€) and glass bottles (beer bottles for example, 0.08€ Pfand each) and beer boxes (around 10€ per box). Starting this year, there's also Pfand on dairy drinks in plastic bottles.
If you return all those bottles and beer boxes, you get a voucher that you can either use for shopping or you get your money back in cash.
    6. Yes, sending kids down different pathways of education at such a young age is wrong because often, the educational standard and vocation of their parents will determine which kind of school a kid will go to and which path it takes, which is not equal opportunities for everyone. But as far as I'm concerned, they want to change that anytime soon, so all kids study together up until 10th grade.

So if you are put into say Gymnasium and don’t make the grades you can go down. Same for Realschule or Hauptschule, if you do really well, you can test to go to Gesamtschule. I don’t agree it is by your social background. You also become a nurse, dentist assistant, or a bank if you go to Realschule. You work at say dentist and some days go to school and you have a small paycheck. Same with the bank. I think it is better than here, where you have to pay so much money for any of those jobs.

    School system in Germany:
(to put it simply ;) )
Primary school (=1st-4th or 6th grade)
Secondary school was preparation for a craft apprenticeship*
Real school/middle school was preparation for a commercial apprenticeship.
Gymnasium/high school was preparation for university.
By dividing them into these groups, the students each have
a more uniform learning progress/learning pace and don't have to
Change your own classroom/class community for each individual teaching unit (the respective teachers visit the classrooms, with the exception of sports and other specialist rooms such as chemistry laboratories) and, if necessary, a large number of classmates.
Teachers teach at least 1 major and 1 minor subject.
(one of my teachers taught German, sports and religion).
*Many federal states have de facto abolished this type of school because they renamed these schools and combined them with at least the possibility of a middle school diploma or even a high school diploma.
After passing the secondary school exams with good grades, you can continue to go to school at these schools for another 1 to 4 years and obtain the relevant qualifications.
However, after graduating from secondary school, there is also the option of attending a general vocational school (preparatory stage for an apprenticeship).
Attention -> many larger companies also offer their apprentices with a secondary school diploma the possibility of extended training with an additional technical college qualification.
Teaching-> also requires attending a specialist vocational school.
High school students can also do a dual apprenticeship with the simultaneous acquisition of a bachelor's degree. = apprenticeship + study

    General speed limits in Germany:
    Autobahn - no limit
Outside of builtup areas (indicated by yellow sign with place name) - 100
    Inside builtup areas - 50
Speed can be further limited by speed limit signs and zone signs. Zones are almost always 30 km/h zones and are typically found in residential areas, while the general 50 is kept for the bigger roads. Sometimes those bigger roads have a higher speed limit, like 60, 70, or 80 posted on them. 40 exists, but is rare.
At any point, the speed limit can be reset by using the speed limit signs with in black-and-white with lines through it. If the number is omitted, this resets all limits. (What is often seen as the "no speed limit" sign on the motorway, but that is incorrect - you go back to the general speed limit. On a motorway that is indeed unlimited, but the sign can appear in other places, too. It's also not necessary to have no limit - that is the default on the motorway. It's only needed to reset a previously posted limit)
Of note, if you are not in a zone, turning a corner means you go back to the general speed limit. This means that the speed limit, if there is one that is different from the general speed limit, has to be repeated at every junction.
Of note, a common belief is that going past a junction without a sign means you go back to the general speed limit. There is some merit to this, since a car turning onto the road would have a different limit than you, but technically the limit still holds and they could get you for speeding.

The term “Gymnasium” originates from ancient Greece, where the word “gymnasion” (γυμνάσιον) referred to a place where young men engaged in physical training as well as intellectual education. The word “gymnasion” comes from “gymnos” (γυμνός), meaning “naked,” as the training was often done in the nude.
During the Renaissance and the Humanist movement of the 15th and 16th centuries, the term was revived to describe schools offering a comprehensive education, particularly in the “liberal arts” (Latin, Greek, philosophy, mathematics, etc.). These schools aimed to revive the educational ideals of antiquity, focusing on both intellectual and moral development.
In Germany, the term “Gymnasium” came to be used for schools providing higher education that prepared students for university. These schools emphasized a broad curriculum, including classical languages and modern subjects like mathematics and sciences. The name was chosen to reflect the high educational standards and the comprehensive nature of the curriculum, drawing inspiration from the ancient institutions.

When I was a kid we used to have nylon rope braided bags with metal wire handles. Used those to get glass bottles of oil and soda from the local grocery stores. The only thing in a bag was raw cow's milk. Food quality and waste situation were much MUCH better back then. 👌🤗 Oh, well.

    I hate the paper straws.
The feeling on the lips is shit and they are coated inside... so no easy recycling here.
On the other hand glas or metal ones are VERY often pocketed/stolen by the customer... also these are a really timeconsuming to clean properly.
The best and strangest solution I found is pasta.
Uncooked pasta straws, it is not supereasy to find a supplier for these but as an eventmanager I can absolutly recommend them.
    No joke.

what i hate way more is wooden cutlery. i mean the plastic ones were already bad but the wooden knifes don't cut, the wooden fork is completly useless, only use i had for that is as a defective spoon.

@@VanezBane Agreed, there are some wooden models who cut at least adequat but these tend to be on the expensiv side of the price range.
I recommend good old metal, nobody steals these and the are easy to clean.

The "sorting" of students at the end of the fourth grade is based on academic merits only. Your teachers at the primary school give a recommendation as to which school they see the student succeed at. Of course, academic success is influenced by the social background. If you have a family that may not be native speakers of German, may be too busy working to supervise and support the child in school. So while the teachers only look at the grades, learning ambition, and probable success of the student at the chosen school type, there is definitely a socioeconomic component to it.

16:00 Had a talk withe a teacher who worked in a "Gesamtschule" - the comprehensive school that teaches kids that were recommended different secondary school types - and she complained that you can't use a single teaching style there. She explained the Hauptschule-pupils need extra attention while Gamnasium-pupils could have advanced more. The pace of learning is quite different. Personally, I think 6 years of primary school are better. In 4th grade, many kids don't have a sense of how important and demanding learning will become.

The cool thing about "Pfand" here in Germany is that if you are out with friends and drink a few beers in a park you are normally too lazy to return it because its just like 0,25€. Instead most people place them next to the nearest trash bin because many homeless people make their living by collecting and returning Pfand. Everytime i was sitting with friends at a lake in my city (Aasee in Münster ^^) there always were the same three or four dudes that went around and collected the Pfand. I think in other cities they also even have their own territory for collecting it. Which is also kinda sad that people are dependant on that money but at least you can do something good for others instead of just throwing away your plastic/glass bottles or cans :D

I'm not a fan of self-service checkouts, but my lunch break is only 30 minutes, which is too short to stand at the checkout for 5 to 10 minutes. That's why I'm happy that the supermarket across the street has checkouts where you can checkout yourself. It's much quicker. But many people in Austria don't seem to be honest either. The checkouts are closed every now and then because a lot of things are stolen. And then at some point they open the checkouts again... That would probably work even less in the USA. A few people just ruin it for everyone...

Yes, it is mandatory to have a warning vest, a reflecting triangle and a first aid kit onboard. Inside city speed limit is 50 km/h, unless otherwise stated. For instance on streets where there's a school or a kindergarten speed limit is usually 30 km/h. There are also so called traffic-calmed zones, mostly in residential areas, where the speed limit is 7 km/h or "walking pace". This is to protect playing children. Most inner cities also have pedestrian zones where not only cars but also bicycles are forbidden.

Before the ban you always have to pay for the plasticbags. but i remeber my grandparents always had small foldable bags with them. just in case of sponatanous shopping or so.
Toda ist when you forgot your bags or need more you can buy paperbags. But they mostly bad. the rip realy fast. but better then try to but a forzen pizza in your back pocket

We can pay for gas beforehand with debit card at some stations. 😊 its not that common. It says you can pump up to 100€.
And yes we do like rules❤😂 it feels good to follow them and to know what is right and what is wrong. We don’t need plastic bags that much because we are used to bags made of fabric. We literally got a bag out of fabric that contains all our bags inside its called Taschentasche 😂 (Bagsbag)

You must have a warning triangle, a warning waistcoat and a first aid kit in the car and also make sure that your first aid kit has not expired, at a traffic check the policemen (often?) want to see if you have it with you (I don't know about more but I'm not a car driver either, I've only heard that in the family).

Are you realy from the UK? - Do you ever leave your cellar?
From the UK (YES United Kingom) official information page about safety stuff that you have mandatory allways in your car:
Vehicles on the road in the UK must also contain a first-aid kit, WARNING TRIANGLE, and fire extinguisher. The warning triangle should be used any time you are pulled over on the side of a motorway, or if YOUR VEHICLE BREAKS DOWN ON THE ROAD.
These warning triangle is mandatory in your f'*cking own country - how do you doesn't know this?

About thievery at gas stations: Contrary to USA every car has two licence plates: One in the front and one in the back (in USA there is only one mandatory in the back). And there are cameras at every gas station and the videos will get deleted, if the driver (or another person inside the car) has paid. But if he just drives away the employee will call the police and hand over the video of the car with the thief (and usually he will be filmed, when he pumps in the gas as well), creating some nice evidence.

Oh boy, the german school system. It is indeed complicated, and believe me: that was a VERY simplified chart you got there. It's just the base system, there are additional school systems that build on each other. For example there are 'Gymnasium' (highest education level) where you can ONLY do the Abitur (highest school degree) and if you blow that, you end up without a school degree. Then there are those where you can get the 'Real' school degree in 10th grade, which is the middle level basic school degree, that is technically equal (but actually higher valued) as the 'Realschule'. So if you blow your Abitur, you still have that middle degree and can decide to try at a 'secondary way Abitur' - those are specialised in some areas (like languages, sports, culinary, economics, etc) while lowering standards in other areas. You can also go to those schools after a normal 'Real' degree.
Basically, aside from elementary school, for each secondary level education in that chart you have like half a dozen or more variations.
Also, in my experience it does make sense to separate children at such an early age, especially considering that nowadays there are many ways to find success in life adacemically and at work AFTER finishing school, or upgrade during school or get a higher education after the degree. I remember i was already in 2nd grade very frustrated for being held back cause there were so many children who needed aditional help for something that was easy for me. With that system, it's less likely that some children will get hold back in their education progress (which makes children loose interest and drive in school easily) while also those who need more help won't be left behind for the children that learn faster. Of course, it doesn't always work perfectly, and there are surely better systems (looking north here once again), but there are far worse systems (looking east here).

"The word γυμνάσιον (gumnásion), from Greek γυμνός (gumnós) 'naked' or 'nude', was first used in Ancient Greece, in the sense of a place for both physical and intellectual education of young men. The latter meaning of a place of intellectual education persisted in many European languages (including Albanian, Bulgarian, Czech, Dutch, Estonian, Greek, German, Hungarian, Macedonian, Polish, Russian, Scandinavian, Serbo-Croatian, Slovak and Slovenian), whereas in other languages, like English (gymnasium, gym) and Spanish (gimnasio), the former meaning of a place for physical education was retained."
There are schools that focus on sport, the physical thing and the theoretical aspects of sports: sports medicine, health, how to train correct, biological aspects and so on.
    They are called Sportgymnasium.
People going there are often already professional sportsmen in youth catogories and work later in their life as professional athlete, coach or in the health sector.

You are supposed to have a vest for all passengers. This means that there must be the same number of vests as seats. Vest are very cheap and most stay in their packages having thankfully never seen the light of day. If you don't have enough vests in your car for everyone, make sure the CHILDREN have vests before the adults. If you stop on the highway, everyone gets out of the car and stands behind the metal meridian/guard/get up the hill/greenery/green zone. In a tunnel? Pull to the side, vests on, and walk to the emergency exits which protect you from exhaust!
