    Costs $200 with shipping here in Canada, and for that price I can get a much better kit with more chisels of different sizes and edges, only downside is it comes with an 1lb iron hammer rather than a dummy hammer which seem to be rather difficult to find here. Anyone in Canada with recommendations on where to buy quality tools, please do let me know!

    Nice review. I bought this set a little while ago and totally agree about the template and I also thought the chisel wasn't the one advertised but I think it is if you look closely. I found on harder stone that chisel loses the edge quite quickly. I have since bought their tungsten tipped chisel which is in the upgraded kit and keeps the edge much better. I love the hammer, Easy to control. Your videos and this kit started me stone carving.

      Hi @GFW299, there is a lot to like about your comment. Firstly, thank you for taking the time to comment and watch the video. Your agreement with what I've said confirms I got the review right. I must admit, it always puts a smile on my face when someone mentions they got into stone carving from my videos. While it hasn't been said much over the last couple of years since starting the channel, but when it does 😊.
      It sounds like everybody is a winner, with you joining the stone masonry world. I gained a new viewer/subscriber on my channel, leading you to buy your kit from a British-based company, Southern Stone Ltd. 👍

      Glad it made you smile. I only started watching to carve out a recess in stone.since I have done a couple of pieces including a house sign and also signed up for a Foundation Course with the West Riding Stone Carving Association!

    I'm looking forward to getting started chiselling letters, my work place has a bunch of dressed sandstone blocks I can use for practice. I also have a background in graffiti, so it should be fun seeing what I can do with letter styles.

      Hi MovingTargetOne,
      Thanks for watching. It sounds like you are in a great position with the stone at work. Good luck! I would love to see how things turn out with the graffiti background moving onto stone.

      @@TheStoneRanger Its quite exciting, and feels like an area not well explored with potential.

    Nice review! I'm currently making my own carving setup. Your videos are very helpful.
    What kind of material do you use to cover your workbench? I use a wet cloth, but it doesn't work very well.

      Hi Bart, thank you for watching, and it's great to know the videos are helpful. I have covered one area of my bench with a really cheap piece of carpet, the type of carpet that is like corduroy.

    Good video but your camera lens is a bit blurry. It was making me think my eyes weee bad the whole video.

    • @TheStoneRanger
      @TheStoneRanger  9 місяців тому

      Hi Jordan, thanks for watching. Yes, you are right, the camera lens does have some dust on it. It's actually on the inside. If I am truly honest, the camera has seen its days, but it has been very good because it has put up with some pretty harsh conditions over the years, working with dust and stone. But hopefully, there will be a new one ordered very soon.

    WHY DO WE PUT EVERYTHING IN ALL CAPS? Is it because we have a New Zealand accent and we want to throw our ideas in front of everybody else’s without understanding that it is the meat of the idea that will propel it? Please let me know.

    • @TheStoneRanger
      @TheStoneRanger  9 місяців тому

      Hi Faces in the Stone, sorry, I don’t fully understand the question, but if you are asking why I put my video titles in all capitals, the answer is that I was advised when I started my UA-cam channel a couple of years back and I have just kept it up because I like the consistency of it. If you're asking about why the carving is in capitals, you would need to ask the supplier of the basic stone carving kits this question. Personally, I like carving in both capitals and lowercase fonts.

      The folks at Southern Stone will sort you out. If you message them and mention that you follow TheStoneRanger on UA-cam, and you would like some chisels similar to the ones I use, they will get it sorted.

      @@josebarcenas306 They sell hammers as well they have a good selection. It all depends on your budget. If you need to, you can make do with a clawhammer you already have; a small lump hammer would work. I started with a clawhammer and old chisels, but it would be better to get a round dummy hammer if you

      No granite. Its a very hard stone with a lot of quartz,. I note lots of stone carvers use soft stone. Limestone and other local stuff like York stone. We have granite and more granite.No good slate. Limestone degrades outside with time and pollution. @@TheStoneRanger
