Fly Tying Articulated Big Game Squid
Вставка

- Step by step instructions for my articulated squid. This fly is a bit time consuming, but fairly easy to tie and gives a nice realistic profile that is attractive to a range of predators. Try it off shore for tuna or mahi mahi, around structure for amberjacks and kingfish or around the coast for bass, striped bass and anything else that eats a squid. Tight lines

Martin great squid, can’t wait to tie and fish in CapeCod
I think you did a great job at making a squid
Great tie!
Thanks.. really like some of your stuff!
Great pattern! Nicely tied.
Hey Martyn, You have really made a great looking fly here. I have no need of it because I don't go deep sea fishing, or sea fishing at all. Fresh water is my game and it might just catch a Pike or two because that movement will make any aggressive species strike.
Thanks for sharing. I have always wanted to go to Japan but have never made it. At least not yet. All the best, Sean
Thanks Sean, glad you enjoyed it. The shanks can be used for pike flies too.
Cheers
Martyn
thanks for watching. I only use ice dub for the head, just hareline stuff, you don't need it to be too long. In the body I mix angel hair or wings'n'flash with the EP for length. Hope that helps.

Fly tying is not a race. Take your time and enjoy your time at the vise. Nice fly
exactly
I think I can avoid the bulk and weight of an articulated tie by using a longer-shanked hook and starting farther back. Make sense?
But it creates more leverage, especially at this size.. It's all a balancing act.
Martyn I didn't get what material you use for the body. Could you let me know
Hi Sue, there's a full material list in the description. I used a mix of craft fur and EP fibres, but any soft synthetic will do.
would be nice to have a list of materials hook size and makes ect
ashsahcash the list is in the description, like all my videos
40 min video to tie one fly?
yes, I usually take about 15 to 20 minutes for these but I go slower on the video. the quickest way to tie these is to do all the heads first then do the bodies.
I don't know if you watch the guys from Curtis fry but they do the same tie in 15 minutes or less
+dennyjr71 I watch their videos, but I've never seen them do an articulated squid. They do have a few trout flies that are up around 20 minutes on the channel too. If a 1lb trout is worth twenty minutes then 40 doesn't seem so much for a 40lb yellow fin tuna or amberjack. A lot of my other videos are shorter than this one if you don't want to spend so much time. I will be doing a couple of quicker squid in future too.
@@denniscampbelljr9826 He takes his time so everyone can get it right..and maybe so we can keep up with him while tying/watching at the same time.
