Be proud to just like the music altogether my brother, this music belongs to no race other than the true lovers of old school music. From Bolero times to Little Richard times. Im not Mexican, proud to be Guatemalteco, but i sure as hell enjoy the music, the artists are not afraid to break norms nowadays and i wish to see more people go back to this times to just enjoy the music without claiming it belongs to someones time. Music is for everyone who enjoys a good rola.
Proud Chicano here, the roots of this sound is black American music, we fell in love with it and added our own spin.

I hate when people of any race dont acknowledge first & foremost that nearly all American music is actually black music, it just feels problematic & disrespectful to our black brothers & sister to not acknowledge that they invented basically every American music genre besides country music, cause even Black Sabbath who invented heavy metal were deeply inspired by the blues, and obviously Jimi Hendrix played an extremely important part in forming the sound of metal & hard rock to the point where I’d definitely say that a lot of his music qualifies as metal before metal was a thing. Not saying that chicano soul doesn’t have its own unique sound or that we didn’t contribute immensely to the genres of rock & roll and soul music, but it’s called Soul for a reason & it’s not because a white person or a Mexican invented it😂even rock & roll was an old school black slang term for having sex Lol. People need to put more effort into paying their respects to the originators because unfortunately people not doing that is exactly how people started thinking rock music is a white genre created by white people, to the point where black people will mock other black people for being into “that white boy shit” if they like rock music & metal
