Guys, having watched all the episodes up to this point, I can confidently say that this is one of my favorite d&d shows, but not for the reason you might think. Let me explain. If anyone reading this is interested in getting into d&d or knows anyone who’s interested, please don’t point them to one of the mainstream series. Send them to a series like this first. This series is representative of what a d&d game should be. It’s one thing for a series to have flashy intros, slick layouts, and movie-quality production, but at the end of the day, that isn’t really what d&d’s about. It’s about a group of everyday people getting together, playing their own way, and having fun throughout the entire experience. Too many people who have seen only mainstream d&d shows get upset or frustrated that their own experiences aren’t like that of the mainstream shows or they feel like their sessions aren’t up to the standards mainstream shows set. I think the Dungeon Dudes and their friends laugh together and seem to enjoy themselves overall more than any other show I’ve seen or listened to, and it’s because they’re really just playing for themselves, not trying to put on a show. The fact we’re watching them and also having fun is just icing on the cake. Hope this post made sense and someone gains something from my little spiel. And lastly, thank you, Dungeon Dudes, for your continued efforts and for bringing enjoyment to us all!
This. This right here. This is very much the sentiment of why I watch. Could not have said it better. As someone who has never played a game of D&D but loves the lore and myth and the joy of a good live game. This is exactly why this group is my favorite. The chemistry they have? It’s just a joy to watch them because you can see how much fun they’re having and it’s so infectious.
I think it comes down to the players having to contend with the compulsive habit to trust things the DM says. That and the players seem to have an inherent distrust of anyone who claims to be a good, honest sort, and a weird sort of comfort with people who are open about being deceitful backstabbers. The thing that weirds me out is that they were even willing to sit down with her. I was expecting them to continue fighting their way out.
She could easily have killed them at several points. So it is clear that killing them or holding them hostage is not her goal. I would say they can trust her intention to use them for her own benefit.
Yep. I've been thinking the same thing. They've been distrusting the lanterns on the word of one of the queen's men (who could have been lying), even though they're a reasonable force for good and have been dying for drakkenheim for 15 years. They didn't trust the paladins simply because they're a bit preachy, even though they were in a zone of truth with their leader. But they trust the queen of thieves immediately even though she's a proven and self admitted lyer and deceiver, preys on the weak and vulnerable, and is out only to establish herself as the head of her imposed order/anarchy disguised as ''freedom''. And they agree to work for her because she either bribes them or blackmails them, by using information which might just be lies... The leader of the paladins layed out their entire plan while in the zone of truth yet they don't believe them, but the queen of thieves spins a tale of lies and deceit and they go with it and believe she's the most upfront and ''open''... This group has some very questionable morals to say the least. 😂 Oh and let's not forget the group delivered to her a badge of the former council/steward of the city the queen can use now to go places she couldn't before and impersonate people much easier, delivered her the real queen's ring so she can be impersonated too now, and delivered her the equivalent of a nuke she can use pretty much anywhere in the city since the queen's a master infiltrator... They basically gave a nuke to the mob boss... Edit+ possible spoilers: In the end the queen even confirms she's playing them and lying. She said she knew the whereabouts of the delirium mage (yoren?) and she used that snippet of info as a bargaining chip to get the group to fight. But after she got what she wanted she says she'll tell them his whereabouts as soon as she finds out. So she's either lying now or was before, and the group shouldn't trust a word she says. Yet they completely gloss over this and somehow they believe the queen of thieves to be the most open and upfront...
Major props to Monty for his portrayal of the Queen of Thieves. He makes it look easy but trust me, playing the part of such a complex character is VERY difficult. But he did it to perfection; conniving, beguiling and ingratiating her way to the party's tenuous trust. Now they are off to do her bidding while convincing themselves it was their own idea and that she has no power over them. So well played sir, this episode has me in awe.
Part of what everyone should note... During Monty's masterful performance, not a single player character thought to make an Insight check against the Queen of Thieves during there conversations with her, EVER. That is a Charismatic performance by a Dungeon Master, hands down! Bravo Monty.

Dick vrs thieves and murderers isn't a difficult moral decision. Given how easy they were manipulated by the queen it's understandable why the other factions didn't trust them as much.
That second where you realize your group of chaotic neutral pcs are just one click from becoming the bbeg's of your campaign lol almost caught up you guys
I just want to chime in and say I have noticed and loved the shirts as well! I had no idea you guys were making them yourselves and that is really cool! A Dungeons of Drakkenheim series of t-shirts for us fans? Please Jill? Or should I say... yes yes yes? :-) Sold to us at the same discounted price that Aldor the Immense would give his very own mother? LOL.
I echo the GoT thing. This is, atleast plot-wise, not less exciting and thrilling. And the queens in this campaign are the best. First Lenora with her funny business, not going into any spoilers here, then the magnificent Queen of thieves. Those characters are incredibly charismatic and attractive. And truly, it's easier to trust a person who openly says that they'll backstab you, other than those who were present earlier... Lord commander is annoying at the very least.
I know I'm late, I don't care. Drakkenheim 2.0 will have Crime, bcz there's ALWAYS Crime. The Queen's Men are uniquely suited to REGULATE the Crime, ensure that it never gets so bad it becomes a Detriment to the City. And THAT'S the Position they can Occupy.

Um, doesn't Sebastian have a 4th level spell slot and twin spell? Like why the hell didn't you twin spell a polymorph into yourself and Pluto? I don't seem to recall you using any 4th level spells yet and you just came off of a long rest. To train a Saurus Rex is against one train a Saurus Rex equals no Tyrannosaurus Rex to be worried about
I’ve been going through a tough time recently, and I just discovered this series. Thank you all for the fantastic content, I feel like I’m spending time with friends when I watch these videos. Sometimes the party’s choices frustrate me, but the story telling is excellent and I look forward to Pluto’s pretend doltishness to profound insight every episode
Drakkenheim, my favourite weekly holiday hell-hole! Always excited to spend some time huffing delirium and questioning my moral substance. Love you guys!
The 3 ghosts is such an ode’ to ep. 1, where the team worked together to pull the shadow over the eyes of the rat prince. So many memories and only 24 episodes in!
That t-Rex was totally awesome. Though I am pretty sure that the queen of thieves is a doppelgänger. She shifted form far to easily and quickly to be anything else. I just wonder who would win in a fight? The queen of drakenheim or the queen of thieves?
@@Klaital1 Not familiar with hat of disguise, but mask of many faces still requires you to cast the disguise self spell and AFAIK doesn't let you change your voice. It's entirely possible Monty tweaked things for the character's sake though, so really anything is possible. I'm still working my way through the episodes, so no spoilers if you know the answer ^^'
@@eran5005 I realize I may be a little late to the party. I discovered this series recently. Aside from the hat of disguise there's the Actor feat, the abilities from the assassin subclass and I'm sure other ways you can learn to disguise your voice, impersonate other people.
I seem to be the only one who's come here and notice the actual question And the answer is Lenore, the queen of thieves does not have magic scorching Lazer eyes It doesn't matter how much you change of her face she's still going to get burnt
You guys are great. Just a couple normal people playing D&D. Did I say normal? Lol. Wish I had some cool friends to game with. Keep up the great content.
There it is. The answer to the riddle given before is finally told to the players at 2:23:00 . And it seems like they still didn't recognize that they heard the answer. Wow...
This is episode they draft Drakkenforce :D Great call by Jill! Hopefully it sticks with the players as much as it did the viewers. That final boss fight was so good! Like, it was honestly a few roles away from being a victory for the team. Veo just needed to get a couple extra hits and it would have been over.
"Underground cave".. (52:57). Because this sort of event should not happen in an above ground cave. Sorry, could not help it. Seriously, this is amazing stuff and I love your story-line, Monty.
Prediction before seeing any more episodes: The Queen of thieves is somebody of the inner circle of the king or the queens daughter who somehow got magical powers during the destruction of drakenheim. I know I might be far off, but stuff would add up very well if that was the case.
EEP... yes, tell the Queen of Thieves what you value most... I don't have a good feeling about this (though the title worries me too). I wonder if the Queen is lying or being honest... hmm... Reading comments- Jill made the shirts? They're great! :)
Spoilers So provided I’m correct with seeing where it’s going: The Queen of Thieves now has a destructive bomb. Welp, goodbye Silver Order And Hooded Lanterns... And the ring and badge... Welp, they’ve really lost everything of note they had, there is no more influence they have.
The whole chapter was a lesson for the party. They failed on two occasions that could have been a TPK, but instead they have to live with what they lost. We will see how Drakkenheim changes based on this.
In fairness, they really didn't get much use out of that ring, they got enamoured with that wall of force. Should have filled it with concentration spells and shield and given it to the fightah
Just getting around to watching these and loving it all - amazing DMing and PCing! I laugh of loud every time I hear "We're Veyo and the Pussy Cats/The Three Crowes/The Jackson Three" all in unison - and it's far too late for this name but can't wait to hear what happens to "Veyo and the Jackson Crowes" 😊
Thanks, Dungeon Dudes, i know you guys are already onto Shadows of Drakkenheim now, but as i catch up i fall more in love with how this game runs and specifically how Monty runs the game for y'all. I bought a set of Skull Splitters because of y'all and i appreciate all you do. Thanks guys
I'm loving this series, it is at the top of my list of best D&D campaign, same place as Critical Role, I would say even better, being played by people that are not professional actors. Really thinking about making some 3d fan art of the player characters..I only need to find time XD
If you do make any fan art, please let us know, we feature fan art during the live stream of the game in the opening lobby and intermission! We are always excited to see what people create!
This situation would break my heart if I was a player, I'm defensive and cautious by nature (and not good with riddles) so I might have released Deceit if the 2nd way proved fruitless and attempted to set up a meeting place so I didn't lose ALL of my cards when I went to the negotiation. You guys handled it better than I would have.
I'd like to see Drakkenheim's faction's leaders come together and form a council where each one represents the opinions and goals of those they represent, and each play a role in New Drakkenheim's future, be it its people, protection, economics, education, etc. Can't wait to see what happens next!
Huh, I love the Queen of Thieves. When she says she’s nothing, she means it. Not only was “nothing” the answer to her drinking riddle, but every line at 2:23:10 is “nothing” as well. That riddle was obviously her own. And, by drinking “nothing”, you drink in honor of the Queen of Thieve’s true name: “Nothing” Nothing is quicker than thought, nothing is more silent than contemplation, nothing is more slippery than a fading memory, and nothing is more unshakeable than a guilty conscience. Except perhaps for the Queen of Thieves … but isn’t she nothing herself? Man, if the Queen of Thieves is a mere persona, a false identity for someone who thinks they are nothing now that Drakenheim is no more, and finds nothing of themselves remains under the masks they now wear … that’s some next level foreshadowing, and writing. Monty, I, and many others, deeply appreciate the work you put in. I know you do it more for your own enjoyment than out of any expectation that your players will notice or care, but know that I am but one of many that notices and cares. I have found a joy in world-building, in the utter joy of learning about new topics - which I would have never discovered otherwise - to underpin my thoughts about my worlds, and it’s all thanks to you. You have made me love learning and crafting a world, and not need to fulfill that by jamming it down throats. I just watched your mistakes new DMs make when building worlds video. You articulated how I feel so well. Though I think that making those odd topics resonate with the party as a tool for problem solving, like magic, is my preferred option, and something you do SO well here, ESPECIALLY the Sewer drainage puzzle, location, and access points. Top notch. Heck, I even noticed you had the aquifer have an improper slope compared to a sewer pipe (too shallow, and a storm drain would be too steep) for the detritus thrown in to properly flush. The disruption of this system has, twice now, screamed out something was cleaning the stuff out of the way, first a gelatinous cube, and then crocodiles. Keep being awesome! You make this world
You know, there's 1 thing that NOBODY seems to be thinking about. I highly doubt that that Meteor is the ONLY chunk of Delerium in the Universe. What happened once can happen again. What if MORE Meteors are on the way..?
A couple episodes ago the party is mad the lanturns and silver order arent treating them like a trustworthy organization. The second they meet the queen they are instantly getting played like a fiddle.
Considering Mel had the group slather themselves up in meat sauce before he bet against them in a fight against a mutant T-rex, the group seems to really like him alot.
That battle would have gone much better if Sebastian would have grabbed Pluto and readied a "Thunder step" on Linda's approach. Teleporting to the pillar near the acid pit that Veo was not near would have given Veo good shots and essentially nerfed Linda's first turn.
Sword sorcery is as simple as equipping a focus weapon you cannot cast full spells any more. Instead it has cantrips you can cast and buff wit your pool of sorcery points. Be careful all your spell slots convert into points and will not return until a long rest without the weapon in your possession (even lent out). The weapon contains the cantrips usable reach and shift stat or weapon stat shifts are common.
Why didn't Sebastian use polymorph? T rex fighting apebastian, or even used it on Pluto to give himself and Veo a chance to fire at it from afar with spells and arrows. If I followed the story correctly (which I may not have), didn't they get a long rest before the prison break, and Sebastian never used his 4th level slot.
@@DungeonDudes I just got to the slaughter at slaughter stone episode, I was so bummed when Sebastian got paralyzed, I wanted the 3 way death match lol!
Am I the only one who immediately thought "So Sebastian is goin to enlarge Pluto" but then he did the Scorching Ray instead. I was like "Nooo that was your chance bro. Large Pluto could've grappled her n pushed her into the acid. Then have Sebastian Shadow Ape out n also grapple her. They both just hold her tail first n jaw shut together.

Dick vrs thieves and murderers isn't a difficult moral decision. Given how easy they were manipulated by the queen it's understandable why the other factions didn't trust them as much.
Kelly quoted Pippin from The Fellowship of the Ring 😂
We had our first pit fight. But what about our second?
That second where you realize your group of chaotic neutral pcs are just one click from becoming the bbeg's of your campaign lol almost caught up you guys
Moved to actual tears during the climactic scene of this episode. So, so good! Also, I think I now have a crush on Pluto Jackson...
Ok, I have a new favorite NPC. The Queen of Thieves is marvelous.
I just want to chime in and say I have noticed and loved the shirts as well! I had no idea you guys were making them yourselves and that is really cool! A Dungeons of Drakkenheim series of t-shirts for us fans? Please Jill?
Or should I say... yes yes yes? :-)
Sold to us at the same discounted price that Aldor the Immense would give his very own mother?
" I just need this badge, it's the only thing that I want in this world, well, my badge and my father I want my badge and my father, um, my badge my father and you guys yes my badge my father and you guys and candied salmon, but nothing else, nothing else is important to me , well, my badge, my father, you guys, I candied salmon oh, and that red glowing light that I can never seem to catch , other than that I'm good," lmao wtf
Im so excited! I'm always waiting for these episodes to come out on youtube!
Drakkenheim, my favourite weekly holiday hell-hole! Always excited to spend some time huffing delirium and questioning my moral substance. Love you guys!
So great as usual!! Can there really be a poll where fans/patrons vote on the group’s name?!? That would be the coolest!!
Just so you know Sebastian, I made a shadow sorc, half-elf for a new campaign we're starting. The whole build seems amazing
It’s a lot of fun and offers some really cool role play options. I’d love to hear about your character concept.
Not necessarily a doppelgänger, can be a Changeling :P
@@eran5005 Or she was just wearing a hat of disguise, or is a warlock with the mask of many faces invocation.
I seem to be the only one who's come here and notice the actual question
And the answer is Lenore, the queen of thieves does not have magic scorching Lazer eyes
It doesn't matter how much you change of her face she's still going to get burnt
I can't believe you guys didn't make an insight check on the QUEEN OF THIEVES
Her deception check would have probably been awfully hard to beat, anyway. :)
Wow...
We all figured it out after the stream it occurred on, so it’s not like it was a surprise to hear it.
I bet Jupiter jones can't say that he ran up and jabbed a javelin into a T-rex's throat
because pluto Jackson killed a dinosaur
"We get along better with the Crooks than the Cops. This bothers me..."
Build every bridge, become every nightmare, feast on every heart. Great story Monty, really into. Are you able to post that modified T-Rex?
This is episode they draft Drakkenforce :D Great call by Jill! Hopefully it sticks with the players as much as it did the viewers. That final boss fight was so good! Like, it was honestly a few roles away from being a victory for the team. Veo just needed to get a couple extra hits and it would have been over.
"Underground cave".. (52:57). Because this sort of event should not happen in an above ground cave. Sorry, could not help it. Seriously, this is amazing stuff and I love your story-line, Monty.
The show gets better with each re-watch. ❤
Is it just my or does Jill like like Velma from Scooby Doo
Velma has more poofy hair but sort of.
Which one
We need a Rat Prince and Black Jack Mel spin off! Monty, you characters are Amazing!
Prediction before seeing any more episodes: The Queen of thieves is somebody of the inner circle of the king or the queens daughter who somehow got magical powers during the destruction of drakenheim.
I know I might be far off, but stuff would add up very well if that was the case.
It's. About. To. Go. Down
I was really hoping the group would finally realize the answer to the drinking riddle when the Queen of Thieves said she was nothing.
The ghosts of Drakkenheim... or team Porkchops.
The way Monty described the t-Rex reminded me of envy from fma and fmab, I dig it!
Man, I was so confident that Big Linda was actually Queen Lenore after being kidnapped and bloodlusted.
So glad I found your guys podcast, love the cast, and the overall story
EEP... yes, tell the Queen of Thieves what you value most... I don't have a good feeling about this (though the title worries me too).
I wonder if the Queen is lying or being honest... hmm...
Reading comments- Jill made the shirts? They're great! :)
Spoilers
So provided I’m correct with seeing where it’s going:
The Queen of Thieves now has a destructive bomb.
I still have the ring of spell storing. The queens ring was a ring of protection that I had.
Every time Pluto keeps questioning, “are we the bad guys in this story??” I wonder when it’ll sink in :) luv Pluto - my fav! #PlutoJacksonfans
These guys are friends with literally every faction, they just can't help it.
Some very funny lines.
"No, I'd like to keep the option to blow you up."
"Are we in a position for an equal bargain?"
From badge inspectors to badge collectors....seems like progress to me!
The badges of office are a way to kind of keep them in balance and in check of each other if they are spread amongst them.
Did we ever find out the answer to the Queen's riddle?! 😄 Probably was no correct answer
Kevin Schmidt the answer was nothing, they should have just drank an empty cup
In hindsight it seems obvious. Now that riddle will forever go in my shame memories. - Kelly
Nice low-key LOTR reference.. "when I started this mission.. quest.. thing" 🤣
Oh wow 50 minutes in, this episode is good. Got my emotions on a rollercoaster. Incredible job everyone.
34:54 Joe deflected that George inquiry well ;)
I like that the queen is a shape-shifter. I did not see that coming!
Huh, I love the Queen of Thieves. When she says she’s nothing, she means it. Not only was “nothing” the answer to her drinking riddle, but every line at 2:23:10 is “nothing” as well.
That riddle was obviously her own. And, by drinking “nothing”, you drink in honor of the Queen of Thieve’s true name: “Nothing”
Nothing is quicker than thought, nothing is more silent than contemplation, nothing is more slippery than a fading memory, and nothing is more unshakeable than a guilty conscience.
You make this world
All this time, and nobody said...
CATS, CATS, CATS, CATS!!!
😂🤣😂🤣
You need people of intelligence for this mission... quest... thing.
In the future this is still the best actual play ! Hy from 2021 dungeon dudes !
Time travel is true as this video is two years old as of today but yet the ratnest episode is 3 ! See I told you!
@@LukeMartinVideo Hy from 2022 my dude!
Going back to note that this is the iconic episode where the drakkenforce was named wow!
I feel the perfect name for their group should be Porkchop Express. Because there's big trouble in little Drakkenheim.
this is defo thunderdome vibes
i wish we can say it all together
TWO MEN ENTER! ONE MAN LEAVES!
Every time I hear of a new enemy I think it is going to be another mutated royal family member.
I was so hoping that Sebastion still had a 4th lvl spell slot so we could have seen Godzilla vs King Kong. Or as somebody else said "Sebasquatch".
I think Monty might have been counting on it, but the amount of encounters made this fight nigh impossible to win
Sebastian: "So I started blastin"
Sword sorcery is as simple as equipping a focus weapon you cannot cast full spells any more. Instead it has cantrips you can cast and buff wit your pool of sorcery points. Be careful all your spell slots convert into points and will not return until a long rest without the weapon in your possession (even lent out). The weapon contains the cantrips usable reach and shift stat or weapon stat shifts are common.
“I’m so mad she took my badge.” Jeez I wonder whose fault that is
Why didn't Sebastian use polymorph? T rex fighting apebastian, or even used it on Pluto to give himself and Veo a chance to fire at it from afar with spells and arrows. If I followed the story correctly (which I may not have), didn't they get a long rest before the prison break, and Sebastian never used his 4th level slot.
Short answer, I was literally planning to the next turn. I was saving it for “if things got dicey” but then they got dicey faster than anticipated.
@@DungeonDudes I just got to the slaughter at slaughter stone episode, I was so bummed when Sebastian got paralyzed, I wanted the 3 way death match lol!
I may be late to the party, but I'm calling it now, the queen of thieves is a child of Lenore.
Question: dont the lightning bold do more damage to peeps wearing metal, or something like that? Or am i confusing that with a lightning spell?
Oh, Blackjack Mel: such infectious enthusiasm
So apparently Sebastian needs a fedora
Am I the only one who immediately thought "So Sebastian is goin to enlarge Pluto" but then he did the Scorching Ray instead. I was like "Nooo that was your chance bro. Large Pluto could've grappled her n pushed her into the acid. Then have Sebastian Shadow Ape out n also grapple her. They both just hold her tail first n jaw shut together.
Wouldn't the current Drakkenheim be version 2.0?
