Yes, Jill, you're killing us with anticipation. We want the whole story. 😅 Also, a photo of 1970's era Henry would be nice, if you have one. Great video as always!
You are a person of strong convictions, and have followed your inner compass throughout your acting career with great determination. Thank you for sharing this part of your life with us.
Sounds like a Holly Go Lightly scenario! I love your stories Jill. I travelled to NYC from Australia with acting dreams whrn I was 20 and I would have Loved to have stayed, I just Love NYC, good on you Jill ' standing your ground'!❤❤❤
As an actress from North Carolina who arrived in NYC in 1969, I can identify with so much of your experience. Love your story. Look forward to hearing more. Thank you.
You are becoming one of my favorite story tellers!!! I just looked up your IMBD and watched your demo tape and read your bio. You are a very talented amazing woman!
Hi Jill! I played Marie in Pillow Talk at Town Theatre in Columbia! Your story brought back great memories from there. But, what a jam you were in after 6 months in NYC! Can't wait for Part 2 about Henry!
That's awesome. Did Anita Grannis direct your play too? She was amazing. She wanted me to do her summer theater in Asheville but for some stupid reason I turned. her down.
So far, this is PAINFUL!!!! I understand now why you put off telling this story. You definitely paint the picture. Your writing is incredible! Wish you would write a book. Is Henry presently available, lol?
@@jilldaltonnyc7545 I’m sure you know I was kidding. I divorced years ago. Traded my ex husband for three schnauzers (My ex never wanted a dog) and couldn’t be happier. I’m an artist and am never lonely, or bored living by myself. Can’t wait for your next video!
You should definitely write a book! Can't wait for the next installment .... Love your stories in general - v interesting, and a breath of fresh air on the acting world, lol.
Fantastic telling. I can feel the fear and insecurity you must have had in the pit of your stomach. His and especially yours. Right choices? Impossible to know and unfortunately we can never go home again. ❤
So true. And life is a series of choices and we're never guaranteed that the path we take will end up the way we want to. so we play the hand we're dealt.
Oh Jill, Jill, Jill. You gone done it again. Another cliff hanger! The anticipation. Does handsome Henry with those baby blue eyes and long flowing locks move up and become a concrete cowboy? We'll just have to wait and see. Another great and entertaining story. Side note: In your opening montage, that first picture of you reminds me of Annette Bening. Could just be the angle of the photo. It's a nice photo anyway.😀
So glad you're liking Henry. We'll have to see how things go. And yes I've been told Annette Bening a lot. I once had a casting director say to me, "I'll put you in my Annette Bening file."
I'm especially enjoying your videos recounting your past experiences, like this one. You should consider writing a one woman play made up of memorable life events. Watching your latest video is a highlight of my Sundays.
If I do another solo play I will use these stories. Doing a solo play is such hard work and expensive to produce but we shall see how things go. I'm open. Who knows maybe Netflix will want to do the series.
Thank you so much. I love crafting stories and words seem to appear when I write like they want to be said. I'm so glad I'm able to share my stories here.
I loved this!!! It’s amazing the love he has for you. I would have done the same for my wife. So happy for you. Enjoy every moment. You should actually write this book and do the audio to it. Man can you tell interesting stories. Thanks for the smile.
First I was picturing a sort of Paul Newman, then a Sam Elliott. Probably not what he was like at all, but it worked for me! Quite a dramatic dilemma. Always listen to your gut. I'm sure you did.
Every time your cat yelled; I thought it was my cat yelling at me! I finally saw the message about your cat yelling so then I realized what was happening.
That's hilarious. My kitty is a senior and has several medical issues going on. She requires a lot of attention and get jealous when I do my recordings.
As noted in a previous (admiring) comment, excellent read! You life story is replete - literally - with stage directions! Despite the partiarchal society in which you grew up and the residual damage it must have done to your confidence as an aspiring artist, you obviously landed the part of an independent, free-spirited woman who would not let her dreams be quashed ... not even by Henry! Although there is audience empathy for your ex, himself a victim of his upbringing, Henry was metaphorically tyring to cast you in a role for which you were not suited. Hopefully Henry had a more successful second run!
I love your analysis. So well said. And yes, Henry was also a victim of his upbringing. We all are but we'll have to see how that turns out. Thanks for the insights and for watching.
You are a great storyteller, Jill. I feel a bit sad for Henry; internally I think he knows he is losing you but, in some way, I think he knows it is for the best.
Reminiscent of that sad Holly Golightly scene in Breakfast At Tiffany's... but she didn't go back! She wasn't Lula Mae anymore... Love these stories - when's the book coming out??? 😉😉😉
Haha! I was approached by two NY literary agents about writing a book I did and sent them the proposal. They passed. So since I'm also an actor, I decided to tell them. Thanks so much for watching.
I've been watching a number of these clips and it just dawned on me how well they're written. You might consider putting together a manuscript at some point if you haven't already, because a story like this would work on paper as well.
Many of my stories were written first and I'm adapting them to this format. I was asked to write a book, which I did and then the two literary agents that requested the book passed. Ah, showbiz.
@@jilldaltonnyc7545 Aha, so I had it backwards. But that does explain the quality of the writing. I took some creative writing classes myself, and this would certainly get top marks. The imagery is natural, evocative and to the point. At the same time, the story is engaging and it has good rythm to it, making it flow nicely along. Great stuff.
i’m so proud of you, as you hopefully are of yourself… i am southern, and proud of it… your feelings of exhilaration post performance, suggest to me that maybe that’s why people act, it’s an emotional release… sad to me, this is how soul works, we learn a distorted version of love in childhood, then when we see that distortion in adulthood, we interpret that as love… then we must unravel the distortion, and discover/ create / learn what healthy real love feels like… God bless you dear heart
Your assessment is so true. I thought I was marrying the opposite of my father and then one day I realized I'd married a man very similar to my father. These are the lessons we must learn for our soul's growth. It's not easy.
Wow Jill, this is a great story! I can't wait for the next installment. I figured you would tell him you were staying in NYC ( you're there now, obviously) but I didn't forsee him saying he would pack up and move to join you there! On one hand yes the guy must have been confused and upset; on the other hand you were both very young and these things happen in young marriages sometimes. And he must have known you weren't enthusiastic about getting married in the first place as he had to ask you repeatedly. Henry sounds gorgeous and charismatic; I can see how as a young woman in 1976 you were confused about what to do, even though your dream was to come to New York City and be an actress.
It was a very confusing time for me. My programming was so deep and yet there was the women's movement and New York seemed to be the Promised Land. Young love, a gorgeous man, and hormones are a tough combo to ignore.
"..to retrieve his wayward bride..." hahahahaha hysterical. This is a ripping yarn, Jill! What did your flatmate think of you hitting it off with the guy she'd invited over for dinner?
Thanks so much. I took a comprehensive screenwriting course and graduated after a year. But screenplays are produced few and far between and the writer has no power. They usually buy the screenplay and then fire the writer and hire someone else to change it completely. I think being a writer is even harder than being an actor. Tough business all around.
