Hello, yes, pony’s horrific owner here. His mane was TOO thick. It was actually starting to cause his entire NECK to fall over to the side and sag.
I also brushed his mane weekly. It was never tangled or hard to tame, just too much.
It would have looked horrific to try and trim it any longer than it was. He is much happier like this. ✌🏻
Thanks again for doing a wonderful job, Shelby. Maybe next time I’ll just have you roach him. 😉

No one cares if you like long manes. Some people don't and they are perfectly entitled to do what they want with their well cared for horses. Before commenting something rude, perhaps consider the fact that it is still possible to retain manners even online. Also consider the fact that there are tons of adorable ponies that look similar to this guy shipping to slaughter everyday so you would be a lot more useful helping them rather than complaining about the hair of a pony you do not even own and that will grow back.
Priorities, guys. I feel like a daycare instructor on here sometimes.

@Pamela Spatzler I don't really think expecting basic human respect is being thinned skinned. There are bigger fish to fry. Bigger issues deserving of more attention, if someone's focus is only being petty and negative, they're the ones who should not be on UA-cam. The respect and human decency I ask for is something even elementary school children can offer, so I think we should just expect the same treatment we would from people in person. Really is not asking much and I have to say, it is rather embarrassing that hate and belligerence is something people have to come to expect and accept online because others lack control.
Luckily as of this year or last, it is now required to microchip TBs so they can't just alter the tattoos the make them untraceable so that should help. As for Santa Anita, their breakdown rate is more than 4x higher than the national average despite having less yearly starts than a lot of major tracks so it is pretty clear something is up with their particular track and shameful that track officials are failing to recognize that.

If you have to say "not being rude," then it's rude. Especially when no one asked for an opinion on looks. It's a tutorial. If you don't like how it looks on this pony, modify it so you like how it looks on your own.

@@sage2339 I'm sorry you don't understand how crests work but the mane does lay flat. You are more than welcomed to post a video showing you can do a better job, in fact, I encourage it. Just make sure you find a similarly hairy candidate. If you can't do that, probably best to shut your mouth and not criticize the people who put themselves out there with the intent to help people who cannot pull their horses manes when you are unwilling to do so yourself.

i found the easiest device for manes is a sharp shearer's comb with the outside teeth taken off. they curve away from the other teeth n towards the neck which isnt good. the comb both thins n gets a great line at the same time. super easy n quick.

Definitely a helpful vid to have squirreled away when my mom and I buy horses jic they have thick manes like this guy. I prolly won't trim them quite so short since we're not in the competition scene and just looking at horses to have for trail-riding (unless circumstances dictate otherwise ofc, gotta do what's best for our future four-legged friends!), but I'm very relieved to see that there's a method that's more painless than the standard pulling. Thank you very much, Shelby!

Man, I need to do this for my guy. I was going to keep it long to act as a bit of a natural fly shield, but it's doing precisely jack-shit and just making him hotter (today was 90F with real feel 104F thanks to humidity here in MI). I don't like pulling, and this looks like a great alternative. Thanks for the visuals!

Ash Burn they’re really easy to use. They don’t pull out massive chunks of the mans at once so you’ll gradually see the hair be removed, just make sure you brush through the mane first so that it’s not painful for the horse/ pony :)

Another way to do this, is to brush the mane out of course, then flip the mane over to the opposite side and trim with scissors, then flip back... voila!

Well, this is a video on how to do it without pulling. There are thousands of other tutorials on how to pull a mane on youtube, this one is for people such as myself, who have horses who do not like the pull comb.

Pulling seems faster lol I just cut my arabs mane for the first time in her entire life. Regret instantly but it was so knotted and it has been so fing hot I felt like I had to.

A lot of horses do not like pulling, though. Wouldn't say it's faster either, especially for a mane this thick.
