Hello, yes, pony’s horrific owner here. His mane was TOO thick. It was actually starting to cause his entire NECK to fall over to the side and sag. I also brushed his mane weekly. It was never tangled or hard to tame, just too much. It would have looked horrific to try and trim it any longer than it was. He is much happier like this. ✌🏻 Thanks again for doing a wonderful job, Shelby. Maybe next time I’ll just have you roach him. 😉
Jessica Blouin he is TOO CUTE I’m a pony person and omg i love his color and his forelock is so FLUFFY might I add that he would look amazing with a roached mane
I'm going to suggest you buy actual hair cutting shears at the sally beauty supply ... some with a serrated edge! ... those fabric scissors look dull as hell .🙂
No one cares if you like long manes. Some people don't and they are perfectly entitled to do what they want with their well cared for horses. Before commenting something rude, perhaps consider the fact that it is still possible to retain manners even online. Also consider the fact that there are tons of adorable ponies that look similar to this guy shipping to slaughter everyday so you would be a lot more useful helping them rather than complaining about the hair of a pony you do not even own and that will grow back. Priorities, guys. I feel like a daycare instructor on here sometimes.
@Pamela Spatzler I don't really think expecting basic human respect is being thinned skinned. There are bigger fish to fry. Bigger issues deserving of more attention, if someone's focus is only being petty and negative, they're the ones who should not be on UA-cam. The respect and human decency I ask for is something even elementary school children can offer, so I think we should just expect the same treatment we would from people in person. Really is not asking much and I have to say, it is rather embarrassing that hate and belligerence is something people have to come to expect and accept online because others lack control. Luckily as of this year or last, it is now required to microchip TBs so they can't just alter the tattoos the make them untraceable so that should help. As for Santa Anita, their breakdown rate is more than 4x higher than the national average despite having less yearly starts than a lot of major tracks so it is pretty clear something is up with their particular track and shameful that track officials are failing to recognize that.
If you have to say "not being rude," then it's rude. Especially when no one asked for an opinion on looks. It's a tutorial. If you don't like how it looks on this pony, modify it so you like how it looks on your own.
@@sage2339 I'm sorry you don't understand how crests work but the mane does lay flat. You are more than welcomed to post a video showing you can do a better job, in fact, I encourage it. Canter Light Stallions tend to be cresty because of their muscle mass & it protects them from getting injured whilst fighting (in the wild) it’s not about breeds lmao

You were awesome to do this for him, Shelby. He looks great and I bet he is more comfortable now, too. Good job. He was so good for you, too! He seemed to be over it now and then, but he was very patient! That was a lot of hard work! Yay for you for not abandoning it part way through with the intention of finishing it the next day, like I may have... 😴 Even his forelock looks good. 👍😊
Thanks for posting. My one mini has an extremely thick mane. It’s been a hot, humid summer which has caused some rain rot under his mane at the top of his neck so I’ve been trying to decide if I want to pull it or roach it!
i found the easiest device for manes is a sharp shearer's comb with the outside teeth taken off. they curve away from the other teeth n towards the neck which isnt good. the comb both thins n gets a great line at the same time. super easy n quick.
i always shorten my boy's mane with scissors using vertical cuts - he really doesn't mind pulling at all (he actually routinely falls asleep) but i absolutely hate the feel of doing it. with enough time and patience it comes out really nicely with minimal faffing around. Luckily he doesn't have a super thick pony mane like this little guy!
Definitely a helpful vid to have squirreled away when my mom and I buy horses jic they have thick manes like this guy. Thank you very much, Shelby!

I was going to keep it long to act as a bit of a natural fly shield, but it's doing precisely jack-shit and just making him hotter (today was 90F with real feel 104F thanks to humidity here in MI). I don't like pulling, and this looks like a great alternative. Thanks for the visuals!
Such a lovely boy under all that hair.. Is he a welsh pony? I used to trail ride with a lady I knew, I used her welsh mare Belle. Such big manes! And huge personalities as well
That kitty is adorable! I've always wanted a cat, but my mother is allergic to them and we often take mini vacations in a car, we fear it might run away since my parents are super forgetful. Oh well, I'm allowed to get pet mice ^^ Also, a very cute pony!
Johanna Lilly manes need to be short to be braided for shows and easier if it’s thin. Thinner manes are cooler in the summer and in this case with the forelock it can allow the pony to see better
Without meaning to come across confrontational, I simply lack knowledge... how does the shedding/thinning brush work any differently to a pulling comb? Surely it's still pulling on the mane in order to release the hair? ^^'
