  • Just a quick mod, fitting a DNA Air Filter (cover only) to the Meteor 350.
I'm not saying it's any good, makes a difference or endorsing it at all, just trying it out. 😊
Caveat : I am not a professional, I make mistakes and I learn as I go.

The filter itself is what makes the big difference, Standard filters are cheap paper ones that will restrict flow, where as the DNA filter uses far more complex filtering materials that don't restrict airflow in the same way.

I have installed BMC filter on my classic reborn which shares the same engine with meteor and here are my observations:-
    1) The lower gear pull/torque becomes very slightly more responsive. How much more is subjective but on a rough scale I would say if earlier you rated responsiveness let's say 7 out of 10 then now you shall feel it to be between 7 -7.4. So not a very huge or drastic change.
    2) The sound does become throaty and the occasional burst fire is reduced. It is a very smooth firing now.
    3) It absolutely makes no change in the higher end and if you are riding it in mountains or moving through varying elevations, you will feel it's underpowered for its weight. So it was never quick and this filter will not make it any quicker either.
Powertronics fuelX lite is what I will try next as changing AFR in my view will make a more visible change. Though I expect that also not to make huge changes, but these smaller changes will eventually result in a smoother ride I think.
Who these mods are for:- Enthusiasts only, for regular riders, the bike is good as is and you can enjoy every bit of it.

You are wise to keep the original filter (protects the engine best, a different filter could void your warranty. Probably best to refit the original cover before you take the bike in for service (warranty concern). Like your videos - you are a very capable lady🍀

Just a tip, to allow the EFI to adjust to the new volume of air, your supposed to start the bike from cold, NOT rev it and allow the bike to idle for 10-12 minutes, the efi will then adjust to the new air fuel mix and adjust it.

Hearsay? Where is it written that this is necessary or the correct procedure? The ECU adjusts the air-fuel mixture in real time using the O2 sensor, so what, exactly, do you imagine needs to be learnt? This advice keeps cropping up in various places on the Internet, but I've never yet seen a motorcycle shop manual that tells you to do it. Some cars, yes, but I can't find any bikes that say they need it.
Does anyone have the shop manual? If it's needed, it will be in there.

If you want to get the best performance out of your bike, also install the Hitchcock's decat conversion. I'm not sure how much extra it adds but its significant at the top end. I also recommend the 16T gearbox sprocket. These three mods together make the bike a far better bet on fast roads.

Hi another mechanical job done well, It looks to me as if the bore of the intake on this replacement air box cover is a bigger diameter, fortunately your bike is fuel injected and to some degree the fuel management system will compensate for the extra air being drawn in. The more air the weaker the mixture and on a machine fueled by a carb you might have had to re jet the carb. More air also means your motor may run slightly hotter than before and the extra noise people talked about is an induction roar, the sound of an air box without the factory intake fitted, most prob designed by the factory to reduce noise rather than restrict the bike. Best thing is take the bike for a decent run and on your return let the motor cool down so you don't burn your fingers, take the spark plug out and see what colour the electrode of the plug is, fuel injected machines plugs tend to be on the white side but if it is very white your motor is running too weak.

The DNA filter on its own is said to give a 4.82% increase in airflow over that of the OEM RE air filter with the OEM RE air filter cover in place.
It is the combination of the NDA filter & NDA filter cover that is said to raise the air flow from 961 lit/min to 1917 lit/min. This being NDA's own figures.
Of cause in the instance of this particular video, just the NDA filter cover is fitted.
It would be interesting if someone with a professional air flow meter firstly checks out DNA's own figures to see if they are actually true and for sure checks out the airflow of a RE 350 with just the OEM air filter and the DNA filter cover fitted.
That would be a popular UA-cam video to see. The equipment is out there as are the RE enthusiasts.
If DNA's lit/min air flow figures are correct, I wouldn't be too surprised if the kit as fitted in the above video gives 1600+ lit/min. With a corresponding hp & torque increase.
Depends how much more air flow the OEM filter can handle.
If someone goes to the expense of it, a before & after dyno figure UA-cam video would be handy even if it is just 1 hp or so and 1 ft/lbs of torque, who knows?, we can all speculate what it would be, but many of us want to know for sure what it is.
I have seen dyno testing outfits in the UK doing power runs for £49.99, so for around £100 it'd make a popular UA-cam video to see what exactly just the DNA air filter cover fitted gives over that of the stock RE filter cover. Both with the stock air filter fitted.
We hear of some of these UA-camrs with their "Channel", go out and purchase a brand new bike with video presentations in mind. It'd be £100 well spent.
Anyway, as we have now seen, (and I did wonder), just the DNA air filter cover does fit over the RE stock air filter, a video that I wanted to see. Giving the Public what they want.
A £33 DNA air filter cover then giving likely to be a tad bit more performance as many owners go on to say it does, will we ever find out in a video what that actual performance gain is.

Old misery guts here but.... changing the intake air box won't affect the sound of the exhaust and all those who think it does are fooling themselves - think placebo effect. What can be changed is the induction quality / volume and you'll really only notice that at normal and higher riding engine speeds. The 350 Enfield already has a nice exhaust sound but if you want louder then go for it. It's your money and your bike to do what you like with. But don't you think that Royal Enfield would fit as standard the best air filtration system for economy and power output. Why would they not. You've got a low power high economy bike and now you want more power. DNA Air filters etc... at best they'll do no harm. That cover did not look well made and the box , packaging, delivery, and 'stickers' probably cost more Your videos are great and I wish you all the best but look out for these "snake oil" remedies that get popularised on social media. Ride your bike until you know you need more power and then move on to something else, although that 350 is mostly all you'll ever need for commuting through a UK winter. Spend your money on ACF 50 or XCP.

You're allowed to be an old misery guts, we all are sometimes.
It was a simple cheap and quick thing that I tried as so many Meteor owners were happy with the results.
I'm sensible enough to know it's not going to affect the performance much, if at all, but it sounds fun. Rest assured if I want more 'Go' I'll look at a bigger horsey-er bike. 😊 Thanks.

Sorry but you have bought into a con. There's just no way that this piece of plastic will make much difference to the induction process, esp with a low performance engine like the Meteor.
Surely there are some nice guys or guyesses at the local bike shop that you could run things past before buying stuff like this.
Any claimed greater efficiency gizmos need to be treated with a great deal of scepticsim.
That was very dangerous putting your hand over the filter inlet. I know a guy who did this with his meteor and got his whole hand torn off. There were bits coming out the exhaust pipe.

If its just the cover it's totally subjective and in reality it is extremely unlikely to improve anything about the bike except for the induction noise, which is most likely what convinced so many people that it's doing something, as I said even if you buy both DNA filter and cover its only 4.82% flow improvement over stock at £98+

They will often try. No extra power can be obtained as the engine will breath what it needs. You might hear the induction more as you open the throttle...but that is all. Thanks for posting, I'm fascinated to see how you are getting on with the Meteor! I'm guessing the "Advertised improvement" with this new filter cover, is that the air doesn't have to turn 90 degrees before entering the air box. Perhaps this with the original set up, was a restriction? Looking at this as a simple person without an engine testing machine myself, I'm struggling to see how this would make an improvement in actual power output unless the engine people at RE didn't know what they were doing in the first place. 🤨 Again, guessing, the "Inlet trumpet horn thingy," arrangement would stop mice or small birds nesting in there if the bike was unused for a winter etc. 🤣But, the most important improvement I can see here is in the rider's ability to know their machine intimately.👍👍 I can see a benefit in fitting a "Reusable / washable air filter" instead of a disposable paper one, in pure terms of long term cost. Keep the videos coming, they are often the highlight of my day! 😉

You say that RE know what they are doing but sometimes decisions are made for other reasons. On the VFR 800 the airbox is really restricted and it has a valve arrangement which is done for emissions testing. It makes the bike really snatchy at the bottom end and when removed it improves dramatically.

I fitted the DNA filter and end cap to my Meteor on Thursday. The recommendation is to fit the filter, start the engine and let it idle for 15 minutes for the ECU to reset itself. Yep, it's the best mod for 90 odd quid you can do to a Meteor!!! The pick up and response is phenomenal compared to standard filter spec. Lots of inducion roar too. Mid range performance greatly improved and 50 - 70 mph speed time greatly reduced. I was a doubter before I bought mine but can now understand what all the fuss is about. It feels a different bike altogether, going to fit one also to my 350 Classic.🙂👍

Just installed on my Royal Enfield Classic 350
Makes a nice difference that gets better with a few rides.
I did the filter as well. It runs rough for a minute then settles. I let her run for 10 mins then cooled off. Later, I did a short 5 mile ride. Did two more rides this weekend and it’s for sure smoother running and sounds awesome. I’ll bet on fuel economy going up as well
Did the valves at 400 miles and oil/filter at 280
    Miles.
This is the best mod so far. I bought from Hitchcocks and they arrived in California within four days!!! Outstanding.

The difference will be in the induction note rather than the sound of the exhaust. There is little doubt that the engine will breathe easier with that fitted because it looks like the air intake is less restricted than the original. Whether you will notice any difference in peformance, I really don't know. Please let us know? 🙂

    @ianfossett4482 Рік тому +1

The only change in sound in any would be from the induction. There can be no possible change in exhaust sound . The likelihood of any power gain is basically zero. Like most of this stuff you will never get from the people who make this junk any supposed increase in power figures because there is none. But going by many of the replies some people lap this stuff up. But trust me this stuff is junk , a decent aftermarket air filter may help the engine breath a little better but there will be no real measurable increase in power . Your better off just fueling the bike with E5 petrol. 😃 And not E10. To get any actual power increase your looking a fueling remap , camshaft profile, valve sizes , gas flowing. And you will get a lot more power but the bike will be virtually unrideable, you may as well just buy a bigger bike 😂 but it is nice to get the tools out and tinker i guess

Glad to see you doing mods yourself. But I think you really need to get a K&N air filter instead of the thing you bought. A K&N is a washable filter that will last 100,000 miles. It will flow air a lot better than the stock filter. I run them in my cars and on my Harley springer. I haven’t checked, but I’m sure they make one for an Enfield. They’ve been around for decades. You change your filter and you will get better mileage and about 5-10 extra horsepower. And you never have to mess with it again. ,100,000 miles you take it out, wash it, oil it, and put it back. There good for a million miles.

This is more streamlined to fit, with a bigger less restricted aperture. Could remove a possible partial vacuum if you're revving hard on the original. You could revisit it after you've kept a tally of your fuel consumption maybe?

Perception is the best HP you can get, more noise=more HP. You will proberly get 0,25-0,5 HP at the best, but on a 20 HP. bike that also something!! To make real HP you will have to go inside the engine, that will be expensive and reduce your realiability, next you will have to upgrade brakes, so it is a vicius circle to get into, live with it, and buy a bigger bike if you want more HP. Please make a video about your trip regarding likes/dislikes and MPG would be interesting!!
