Superb. I always finds it easy, I mean very, very easy when a woman make her tutorials. They always hit the nail on the head. This is direct, pricise and simple. I 100% recommend u. Your are One of the best thing that happened to me
Gotta love to K.I.S.S! 😉 I'm always guilty of doing too much. Sometimes I just can't help myself. Lol. Good video. Like the song as well. Happy New Year!
i think youtube is reading my mind. i was just talking to my other engineer about mixing and using too many plugins etc then i trun on youtube and see this video... thanks for the vid...
Get yourself a good mix bus and yeah this works. Without a decent mix buss these DO sound a bit "bland" and not "IN" the mix but its fasho a good starting point and good tips in general. I suggest some saturation and additional compression on the mix bus to achieve a more unified effect. The rest is for the master. Keep killin sis do yo thang gang
I was bout to say no wiman is teaching me about mixing until i hear your music vocabulary and the passion u got and straight foward approach no cuts lets me know you should have at least 500 k subs 🤷🏿♂️ and im now one of em 👍🏿
Woah! Thanks for that, Mixing is the hardest step of music making. I do RnB so, what's your recommended sequence between Drums, Bass, guitar, Keyboard and Vox?
My sequence would be Melody first so just group all of the melody components together so guitar piano, etc. Then I would group all the drums together snare kick 808 bass. And then the vocals will come last. From my experience, the melody component should be lower than the drum components only because nowadays people listen to the beat more than the actual lyrics or Melody. Gain stage between -18db to -12db on average. Melody components is all about what feels good to you when it comes to leveling
@@Kaymixedthat Yes! Thanks for the quick response. Please another question: Do you arrange and then mix or you make sure ALL the instruments are well mixed in loop (4 bars, 16 bars) and then arrange? I almost always have A and B sections for all my ideas so, at this moment I lay the track out arranged. Is this your approach as well? Really appreciate your input! Great track by the way!
I definitely like to arrange first. I feel like when you’re well organized it makes things go by smoother. So loop 16 bars. group tracks (I.e melody, drums, vocals, sfx). Then Figure out what elements go where. What you want to add in and then take away. Once you get down the layout of the song. Then mix. Add your effects and etc. once you do that, level each element to your liking. My vocals are the last thing I work on.
@@Kaymixedthat Thank you so much, this is incredibly helpful! I am also a CPA, so if you have general questions, as a token of my appreciation, send them my way and in the words of Biggie "No need to worry, my accountant handles that"
Yes you should that way you can control the amount on each track. the reverb and delay are on its own separate send track, and i routed it onto the verse track.
@ ok that makes sense. I’m one of those people who has over done it in a mix before and I’m learning 😂 one more question tho. If I want to make the sound more analog is it ok to add something like black box by plug in alliance or fab filter Saturn for saturation at the end of a vocal chain?
Yes you can and i heard both plugins are really good. I own the black box but never used it 🤦🏽♀️ but the saturation is good if you are trying to add warmth presence and subtle distortion. Definitely go for saturation with Fabfilter 💪🏾 only add it at the end of the vocal chain if your vocals sound too thin after all the other processing. A LIGHT layer of saturation can round out the sound.
@@Kaymixedthatthank you so much! Just one last question I promise this time 😂 But did you out the second compressor for the gate in a send track? Or should I keep it in the same chain?
@@DOUGHBOIMUZIK You are fine, ask as many questions as you need. How I do my vocal chain, my noise gate goes directly on the track. on my sed track i would have all the eqs compressors and etc on it.
I agree with the "keep it simple" philisophy, but like, this mix is utter garbage. Boxy, thin, under compressed, Kick has phase alignment issues, Reverb is cutting through is lows more then anywhere else making the vocal appear groggy. This is just downright a pretty bad mix I cant lie, I swear on everything I love im not even "trying" to be a hater, but thats just facts. Learn how to mix before teaching others lol.
