- This isn't an ebike review, but my impressions of the use case of an ebike for the lifelong and aging cyclist. I was fortunate to have a friend loan me an Orbea Gain which I've ridden for close to 200 miles over the last three weeks.

Great video, you found what I did. I am 75 and have ridden mega miles for the past 35 years. I scoffed 5 years ago when e-bikes started coming around, but age and a little extra weight started me thinking. I bought a LOOK E-765 Optimum and have been riding it for the past week. I am amazed. My older Bianchi Intenso is now up for sale. I can now ride farther and faster with less effort.
Dan, that’s a great story! I’m convinced as long as the balance is still there, e-bikes mean those like us will be able to ride for many, many more years than without them. Cheers to riding bikes!
@@OldManofNewEngland Dead right. I live in a hilly region of SW France, and over the last three or so years those hills have become more difficult. So for my 90th birthday last year I treated myself to a very neat, very light, friction drive kit, which converted my trusty road bike into an e-bike. Result - I'm back on those hills and am out more often, and in 9 months have clocked up 3,000kms. Not earth shattering I know, but I intend to increase that next year if I can. So when age starts to have an influence, check out e--bikes.
@@vincekerrigan8300 That's AWESOME. I hope to make the same purchase on my 90th birthday! Well done!!
@@vincekerrigan8300 Way to go! Glad to hear you're still riding at 90. I hope to follow in your footsteps.
@@OldManofNewEngland Great - keep going and I'm sure you will. Good luck.
The Gain weighs 13.5kg which is 29.7 pounds.
Great job! I'll spend this winter researching ebikes and being overwhelmed.
I am younger. But have a good use case as well. I expect the exercise more often will still get u fitter. If u ride more often.
Riding often is where it’s at! I hope this video was helpful, Graham.
I hear ya… I’m 54 & I realize that ‘someday’ I’ll want something to extend my riding duration.
I have a Surly ICT & that weighs in at 40lbs with racks. Right now I can’t imagine wanting to add more weight :-)
Just like anything bike related, the more $ you spend, the less you weigh! 😁
👍 Here’s to keeping things upright & healthy! 😉
Loved the review....Checking them out, but as you said.......not just yet....
Missing your content. Hope all is well!
Thanks, Peter! I’ve got a couple of desert videos coming very soon. Sorry for the dry spell. Although, the desert will be dry as well! 😉
youre 56....hills are where fitness lives....not for everyone tho.....but yeah....when youre 70.....im nearly 60 and have done several Alps in France and plenty of hills here in the UK.....ride on!!
You got it right! Hills are where it’s at. No e-bike, yet. Thanks for watching!
I reach for my E-bike almost every single ride...I just enjoy it way more and ride longer....I love it! @ 54 it just makes riding better!....and, ya know...I can afford it lol
Love to hear that! Awesome!
My question is … are you wearing Birkenstock’s?
Of course!
