I'm Australian and I love this video! I even learned things I didn't already know about my own country and that's just awesome!
Also, that last part about Americans loving our accent is weirdly true. I was gaming online with roughly 11 Americans and once I started joining in on the conversation and actually speaking (I was quietly listening for the first few minutes because I get shy when gaming with strangers online), what felt at the time like the entire party became bizarrely excited. I was absolutely stunned. They asked me to say a bunch of different words and just loved me - I was only too happy to indulge them too. It was one of the nicest receptions I've ever received from a group of people I'd just met.
To every happy lovely person out there: if ye be American or anybody else, I'll love you back if you want to love me at all. You're all beautiful and I wish you a great day!

It just makes sense to not be racist and call people things like that. We call them that bc they are from there. I had a friend who was Indian but was born and grew up in England. We all called her English but she was like no I'm Indian and we were all like no ur English.

    • @interestedinstuff
      @interestedinstuff 6 років тому +1

Yup I'd agree with that. As an Aussie saying something as long winded as African American just doesn't happen. We'll call you whatever country you're from based on what you sound like usually. Racism exists here unfortunately, but I rarely see it towards any colour American. I guess because Americans here don't upset the cultural landscape in any way. The racism I see tends to be towards those we see as trying to change the Australian way of doing things.

    • @Eqcrw

    • @interestedinstuff
      @interestedinstuff 6 років тому +2

I realise from your comment that I always thought of racism as something one does intentionally. A person might think a different race is inferior, and they think this consciously. I never thought about ways of doing things that are racist without it being intentional. I guess there could be cultural racism. Bit like someone saying 'I treat black people just as if they were normal'. It is a good point to raise. In general though I think that Australia isn't doing too bad. I do think the media is making it worse in a lot of cases. On one hand the media preach tolerance and acceptance etcetera, and on the other hand they tell stories specifically choosing one race as the target.

The only living organism in Lake Hillier is Dunaliella salina, the microorganism that causes the salt content in the lake to create a red dye, hence the colour. bitterman co I'm from Vic and we have a considerable aboriginal population in the Yarra Valley district, as there was a prominent mission there in the 19th and early 20th centuries; Coranderrk. However, I guess due to the colder climate there are less Aboriginal people in Vic than in the warmer parts of Australia...which makes sense I guess.
We definitely have a prominent Aboriginal presence though (Aunty Di Murphy does the 'welcome to country' at major events, including the AFL indigenous round).

    Great video ! (as usual ? :D)
I'm not sure where that would fit (maybe in the last part, friend zone ?) but AUS and FR are quite close as ausies played a huge part in saving our asses in the big war, in a suicide mission pretty much. We celebrate that act every year in the region they took part in the war.
I'll remember the year i spent over there for a very long time if not for as long as i live. so many amasing memories and experience.

cops in Australia are great and unlike American cops they
1 go for a taser as opposed to a gun
2 will go to a hospital if you are injured
3 get in serious trouble for unnecessary force
      bad things about Aussie cops
      1 tasers suck so much
2 seriously tasers are the worst!
      good things about Aussie cops
1 you can all go out drinking even after you've been arrested and let out
2 Aussie cops go out drinking after work like everyone else
though really if you cooperate all will go fine
but make sure you get here legally because the navy is really big on stopping the "boat people"

The things missing from this video as it was quite brief...
-A bit about the cities and states, tourist spots and buildings - Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Darwin, Alice Springs, Hobart
-Our national sport AFL (Australian rules football) and cricket (which is played internationally),
-Hardly any reference to our unique wildlife and plants - kangaroos, cockatoos, bilby, echidna, platypus, wombats, koalas, frilled lizard, eucalyptus, banksia, kangaroo paw etc
-A bit about our politics Edit: As of today 22/05 our current Labor government and prime minister Anthony Albanese
-The great barrier reef, the largest living organism on Earth
    -Ayers rock/Uluru - a sacred aboriginal site
-Exports and mining (such as coal, uranium, iron ore and other natural resources) and farming,
-Foods (like our meat pie and a couple of other things),
-Australia day, Anzac day and other important days,
-Some historical figures like Ned Kelly, Harold Holt, C.Y O'Connor
-Our music and famous people - ACDC, Hugh Jackman, Margot Robbie, Heath Ledger, The Living End, Midnight Oil, Mel Gibson and more.
-A bit about our currency AUD Australian dollar.. we have 5, 10, 20, 50 cent coins and 1, 2 dollar coins and then we have 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 dollar notes.
And a couple of other things.

If you were in Australia back in the fifties and sixties, you would have found a lot of people then were pronouncing it wit an accent on the "BER". It was the way back then but changed over the years....came from Britain i suppose......

Or maybe they thought it was already inhabited & accepted that
The Dutch of that era were all traders, they were on their way to the Silk Road, so it made sense to stop in & see if Australia had anything they wanted to trade too. Unfortunately I guess the Aboriginal people didn't think of trading things like Eucalyptus oil
