Arrma Kraton EXB - Installing EAR PLUGS In My REAR Differential And TESTING It Out!! Will It Work??

- In this video I install silicone EAR PLUGS in my 1/8 Arrma Kraton EXB “Extreme Bash” Rear Differential. I have had issues with the open diff in this rc since it was new so I decided to shim the internal gears as much as I could and install silicone ear plugs in the diff to basically lock up my rear differential. After the install I test it out and see whether or not this was the fix to my problems??
It's the center diff bro, earplugs n center diff and unloading to front stops more 4x4 its fun factor goes up
Thank for the tip!
Unlucky brother hope it all gets sorted out . Awesome car btw love the black and red theme 👌,just joined the Rc family 😎👊
Adrenaline Ash RC thank you! Hope to get it figured out sooner or later lol
THE CENTER DIF IS THE ISSUE PUT 500K
Wondering why he didnt just leave it mostly in the cup and just fill it with jb weld? That epoxy would be like filling it with concrete . Also a wheelie bar (arrmas) helps absolutely a little . Most ive gotten out of it was its more prone to cartwheel as its now got more spots to 'roll' . If you want to quit unloading to the front its your center that needs work . Start at 500k and see if that helps . I did that with a dash of 1M weight and it basically just sticks to the ground . Almost miss the wheelies . * edit * upon study turning the punch back up a tad fixed that lol
It’s changed a lot since then…I’m not running the ear plugs anymore
Your center diff warmed up and center diff oil viscosity changed and that why she was spinning front tires, open center diff.. so you need to lock you center diff,, your rear diff is fine with your set up.
Lol my rear diff isn’t fine. I posted this video a few months ago and a lot has happened since then. I’ve made more videos showing what has happened since. Also that center diff is an lsd. All of my diffs have been taken apart and put back together. Thanks though
@@RCKnockout kev locks the centre diff. For the unloading reason
@@ZingZingNZ yeah I think I saw that video
To stop the power from going to the front you lock the Centre differential. Then put heavier diff oil in the front than the rear. Sorry I know I’m late to the party lol
That’s true you’re very late to the party lol…..I actually switched to v5 diffs front and rear…..haven’t had any issues yet….I haven’t had to mess with the center but thanks for the tip 👍😉
Hot glue works great for locking diffs
Thanks for this was looking a video on how to remove the diffs from the Exb. I hope by now you've managed to sort your rear diff with the new plates
Yeah I finally think I got my diff sorted out
How many runs did you do with the truck before u ad issues with rear diff bro 👍 just tryed mine it seems OK for the time being. 👍
GAZ FPV since brand new. Had 1 run on it and it sounded terrible from the beginning, before I opened up the diff and saw some of the teeth were chipped and there weren’t the correct amount of shims in the rear diff.
If you wanted them to bind... Then you should have just filled it with epoxy. Worked great on the junk diffs in my sons Grom
I would have just gone 500k in the rear diff and earplugs in the center diff. When it wheelies, the center diff will just unload the power into the front as there is less resistance there. Rear diff has nothing to do with that. That's center diff woes. Effort put into the wrong side
Thanks for the tip!
You actually always want as many shims as possible under that pin and sun gear. Even in normal use. That's how you take the play out that causes the damage. And looks like you could shim behind the plates as well. Imo
I gotcha….Probably good advice 👍😉
Just put the regular diffs in from Jenny's RC gotta take out the spiral cuts out ..thas the easy way out
truboy555 arrma is sending me a new limited slip diff for the rear so I’m gonna wait on that.
@@RCKnockout o OK sorry man!!
truboy555 no worries man 😊
JJ customs do a locking diff for the rear diff. If that helps bro 👍
I honestly might consider purchasing a locking spool for this. Kinda tired of the headaches dealing with this open rear diff
Wao you are a really good driver😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Lol thanks 😂
Thats the fix without the lsd the most shims you can put under the sun gear. Or use 3 star plates without the locking disk on both sides to keep an open diff if you dont like the limit slip effect
Also the shim on the LEFT SIDE OF THE CARRIER IS IMPORTANT DO U HAVE A SHIM? They had issues with the entire DIf when it was made mistakingly placing the older setup v4 into new v5
Spoke to horizon the issue should be fixed by now Esp since I’m buying my exp NOW almost 9MONTHS later--PUT 500k in center DIf that will help with ballooning in front and grip better
Thanks man! Yeah it should be fixed at this point. I’m not sure what the stock diff fluid in the center diff is though?
Seems like you need an earplug in the middle diff
Thanks for the tip!
Not sure what makes you guys think silicone ear plugs would fix this issue. U need the lsd plates. Buy 2 packs and use only the star plates and it'll still be open diff. I have over 50 packs on my exb 0 issues
DSC1320 thanks for the tip 😊
What pinion and setup do u have?im going to run 1650 hobby wing combo
150a esc from a Redcat Kaiju (Rebranded Hobbywing) 2050kv Arrma Blx Brushless motor - 15t pinion
Just ran mine one 6s pack and locked up , teeth missing and the ring and pinion is chewed as well! 😤 Cmon Arrma!
Shimming! You need to shim it before running if you know arrma yoh need to check your oils screw shims before you run it specially this roller
Bummer man! Hopefully you’ll be able to get it back up and running soon
Surchaufeur yea did all of the above twice man ! Checked diffs after every run as well
Long time rc’er , been there done that! 😂
RC Knockout yes sir , got a new diff from Jenny’s coming Tuesday, I’ll strip it check it
Shim it and hope it lasts , I will probably go lsd since I have the parts to do it , what do you think ?
Robert Sanchez never heard of Jenny’s? I honestly don’t know. At this point I just wanna be able to get the power to the ground. LSD or Locked seems like the best idea to me
May you should put some 1 million weight or even 2 million,,,that way at least you’ll have some movement in the diff,,,just a thought,,,,I’m considering doing that myself as I have a diff on coming soon I hope,,,they are sending me one no charge....like your vids....good luck,,,,just experimenting till the diff arrives...🇺🇸👈
James George I’m not sure about putting a million weight in the rear diff. I doubt that will lock it as well as the ear plugs would have. Part of the issue is that my gears were ground down and chipped before I did this so I was kinda worried it would fail on me. My guess is now they are completely stripped in there
@@RCKnockout i have 2 million weight in the center diff on my outcast 6s, it has a little flex but isn't able to turn.
James George thanks for the tip but I think I’m going a different route with the diff. Tune in to my next video to find out what I did 😊
moved the rear diff to the front and 200,000 in the center. use 20,000 in the rear.
So you moved the open diff to the front? Just put a much heavier weight diff fluid in?
Why'd you do that?
How do you know about the power to the front?
What do you mean?
@RCKnockout I'm new to the rc world, and in the video you kept saying something about the power being all in the front.
@@eastlosraider1982this videos probably two years old so I don’t remember exactly what I said….but I was probably referring to all the drive going to the front wheels cause the rear diff was slipping like crazy and not able to get the power down
@@RCKnockout oh okay makes sense now. Thanks for the reply back!! Have a great day
@@eastlosraider1982 no problem….you too 👍😉
If the gears were already stripped putting silicone plugs was just going to delay the issue. Buy a exb locking block on ebay mainwhile if the gears were already chipped it was game over from the star yoh cant get gears atm?
Surchaufeur the gears were grounded down and somewhat chipped. If they would have been completely stripped I wouldn’t have even bothered trying. That’s why I tried to jam the gear mesh as tight as possible. It didn’t work but it was worth a try
Not able to find any internal gears for an EXB online. Arrma is on back order with all diff stuff too
Doesn’t packing a diff that tight put excessive load on the motor and drivetrain? Sucks that Arma is having these kind of diff problems with a new “EXB” RC out of the box. $470 for a roller with a bum rear diff....no thanks.
pewterngold you want it packed all the way to lock the diff. You’re more likely to break a rear axle I suppose since both tires are spinning the same speed and the only give at that point would be coming from the lsd center diff. It definitely sucks for the people who got the lemon diffs lol 😂
RC Knockout....I feel your frustration dude. I have an early version Outcast that drove me nuts with the shimming that the diffs needed. I barely drive it anymore because it gave me so much aggravation. I thought Arma had their diff problems better fitted after that. Guess not. There’s so many vids of people shimming Arma diffs. I just don’t see why their engineers or QC can’t can’t a handle on it after all these years.
pewterngold I have no idea. I realize people make mistakes but it sounds like a lot of the EXB rear diffs were shipped out with the wrong amount of shims. So I would think someone would have identified that sooner?? I guess not
Next step: epoxy?
No……I’m running the v5 diffs now…..haven’t had any issues since I swapped out the spiral cut EXB diffs
@@RCKnockout very nice! Great to know, tyvm
@@bcumike you’re welcome! 😉
Isn't the earplug fix meant for the centre diff. To stop the fronts from spinning up. Putting earplugs in the rear will probably make the mesh issue worse. As it will be constantly pushing the gears apart and keep them from meshing properly.
Mr.shadey that’s the fix for the 1/5 scale 8s Kraton. This is a completely different issue. The ear plugs are meant to lock it up and keep those gears from spinning
@@RCKnockout But locking the rear diff won't stop power from going to the front wheels.
Mr.shadey the issue isn’t power going to the front wheels. The factory shimmed a bunch of rear Diffs incorrectly and shipped them out in the new EXBs. I destroyed my inner diff gears on the first run because of that. Horizon claims to be sending me an lsd diff as a replacement but it’s on back order. I’m just attempting to lock up those planetary and spider gears so I can basically run it in the mean time by locking up the rear Diff.
@@RCKnockout But in the video you was complaining about all the power going to the front
Mr.shadey I must of been talking about the Ear plugs failing in the rear diff and it was unloading all of the power to the front wheels at that point. Earplugs failed on me
Kraton 4s and now the exb are killing the hobby for me.
I haven’t heard anything about the Kraton 4s? What issues is that having??
@@RCKnockout 1st pack melted the diff yokes, burnt the motor, mount melted, stripped sun gears. I was told the esc had a critical error. I wasn't going HAM at all just pure junk.
James Robinson that’s a bummer. I guess I’ll keep that in mind and not get one of those. They must not have built it durable enough to run 4s? Did they use a bunch of plastic parts?
@@RCKnockout nothing but plastic but it was fast blew the doors off a maxx lol. It definitely can't handle 4s, it was fun while it lasted. Horizon did take care of me though, its how I got my EXB. Now if they just step the parts support up, haven't even been able to run it. My front lsd plates were bent out of the box.
James Robinson I know what you mean. Clearly they’re selling vehicle before they have a proper amount of parts support in place. So were all just sitting around waiting on backordered parts to show up
Stop driving on hard surfaces like pavement and you won't have diff issues
Thanks for the tip! But I’m gonna keep on doing that lol 😂
Be a man use your hands kevin glad got your lsd from Wayne i had him too
My fully upgraded v4 is a way better truck arrma why limited slip its the whole problem
The issue doesnt comme fromt he limit slip diff those are bulletproof its the rear who doesnt have them and doesnt have enough shim thickness from factory to mesh the gear correctly
First👍
