honestly the divide between shirogyaru and kurogyaru never crossed my mind mainly because i'm a gyaru with brown skin without tanning, so i never had to think about it! but this was so interesting to see! amazing video as always !!!!!!! <333

Haruka’s mom is gorgeous and she seems like such a lively and cute person. I was so glad that Haruka cited Black American pop culture as influences as well!

It's a little funny, little sad that she was like "we had pretty strict rules" and then the rules were just take care of yourself and be nice

wow i feel so enlightened hearing the history of yamanba being it's own thing and not considered a style of gyaru, it's crazy how quickly things like that are forgotten/how quickly misconceptions take hold. thanks for doing these interviews they are always so interesting!!

I appreciate kurogyaru so much. I'm a darker skin asian and I wear gothic fashion and gothic makeup but a lot of asian gothic makeup tutorials are aimed at those with very pale skin so it never works out as well for my skin tone. Then I started looking up makeup tutorials by kurogyaru like egg models, Choppa, Usatani, etc and incorporating kurogyaru makeup into my gothic makeup and it's turning out so much better!

Listening to Haruka's mom was great! It's the kind of information no one writes down so it's super cool to hear from her!

It's so cute that they refrain each other from using drugs at the club, that's good.

I am a 90’s pastel Kawaii girl!! I am a Kawaii mom too 😋 in the 90’s Hello Kitty had a baby blue theme with Angel wings & baby blue was my fave colour so I was covered head to toe in baby blue & Hello Kitty 🥰💞 Butterflies were a big thing too 🦋 most of my friends were punk & goth or “freak” as we called it then, I was a freak too when I was 14 & 15 till I went pastel Kawaii at 16. Not gonna lie tho nobody (at least in Toronto or Montreal Canada) used the word Kawaii back then, I didn’t know my style was Kawaii till that song/music video came out & I was like omg bish biting my style! 😅 I went more hip hop in the late 90’s early 2000’s but still wore only baby blue with Sanrio accessories & Kawaii vibes. It wasn’t till 2007 when I got pregnant I started wearing pink & other colours & not till I made a UA-cam channel in 2009 that I found out there was other people with similar style to mine, I was so surprised!!! I had a friend visit Japan in 2002 & now I know why she said I would love it there!! 😋🦋🎨💘🍭

Wow! I follow Haruka on TikTok and I love how unapologetic she is about her fashion and aesthetic. I had no idea her mom was part of the OG Gyaru's. This was so fascinating and made me think about my mom and what fashion/aesthetic things she passed down to me.

Loooooved hearing about gyaru from an actual former gyaru’s perspective! I’ve been super into the “first generation” gyaru, like Haruka’s mom, lately. There’s just something so fun and carefree about them and you could tell they looked like they were having a blast. It’s also the nostalgia from living in the late 90s and 2000 for me.
