Mark Quick Fantano should have a decade in review and talk about the worst artists and albums (yeah I wanna see Corey Feldman again) and the best artists and albums.
Generally speaking, red flannel means the album is bad (4 or below), orange flannel means it's okay (5-6), and yellow flannel means he thinks it's good (7 or above)
Russ used to be a member of Death Grips, but dropped out post-Exmilitary because he thought he was too talented for the band, so he proceeded to make boring dime-a-dozen hiphop.
Simon Torres Hahahah holy shit. I googled the name before I even asked, and I thought it couldn’t possibly be who you guys were talking about. Was he a vocalist..? His music is trash, I couldn’t ever imagine him being in DG, especially on Ex Military which is probably my second favorite record from them.

I do really feel like death grips are poking fun at the criticism they usually get. "Theyre lyrics are just nonsensical" - Streaky "They just make loud music that's too chaotic to make sense" - Shitshow "They're just a meme band" - using the director of shrek for the dilemma intro I love this album but I can't shake the feeling they're making fun of themselves while still making great music, especially with all the self sampling. I'm probably completely wrong but it's just a weird feeling I get.
"their lyrics are obnoxiously dark/edgy" - black paint "they're so egotistical and full of themselves" - dgio "i'm disappointed in them" - disappointed (obviously)
So glad Streaky grew on Fantano in the context of the album, I think it was only received poorly as first due to it not being as crazy as you'd want a lead single for a Death Grips album to be.
This album is so ecletic that no song would be out of place imo, there could be a half an hour long, spoken-word track about Ride's affection towards his cats and still wouldn't come totally out of the left field.

This album is a very important example of aesthetic context. It is extremely interesting how much better some of the singles sound within the context of the album, this album couldn’t have been anything but what it is. There were a couple of songs that I just didn’t really like, but now love because of the way they flow as a part of the whole. Inspiring.
Kek. No. This is only people going 2 steps back from: "is this their shittiest album yet?" And now that people like it, they are like: "the s-s-singles are better in context right?"
for real. Flies was so disappointing to me when it was released and I lost hope for the whole album after Streaky. But while listening to the album in its entirety I loved every second of both songs. The album kind of flows together as one long song almost
I questioned the direction they were heading with those first singles, listened to the whole record and realized that this may be the most "Death Grips" Death Grips record
5:48 I'm relatively new to Death Grips, but hearing Fantano praise Black Paint and that being one of my favorite songs by them yet, I feel secure in diving in deeper.
Tbh ive been avoiding death grips because usually when i hear "experimental" it usually just means "lets call it good bc its weird for the sake of being weird" but i really regret that now tbh, im just now listening to them and realizing that while they are very different they still understand basics of good music, like keeping a good flow or a groove. Im sad i never listened til now
Experimental music is hands down one of the most consistent subgenres. It may not always have a groove or flow but at least it doesnt have a generic one like most songs that DO actually have a groove. Experimental is new ground, usually very technical, almost always refreshing. Dont sleep, most of the best albums of all time are experimental to some degree.
Year of the Snitch has really grown on me, it's quickly becoming one of my most favourite albums by Death Grips. It's got just the right amount of catchy and weird. It's innovative yet addictive. I love it!
I think that the prevailing theme of Year of the Snitch is Ride had a hellish, introspective, days-long acid trip whilst experimenting with different drugs and environments...The whole album really follows an acid-trip-like path when it comes to tone, tempo, and thought patterns. With Little Richard especially, you get that insane synth intro that I believe is supposed to be cards shuffling. It sounds synesthetic and three-dimensional. And with Disappointed, it's after Ride's woken up from Outro, which is him falling asleep at the end of his suicidal fear-induced panic attack (DON'T JUUUUUUUMP meaning from a high place and don't take the jump, meaning don't take acid). Listening to the album always gives me a rush and I really love it but it scares me sometimes lol
I'm really pleased that Death Grips, while maintaining the essence of their core sound, is expanding from it's core members. They previously employed Bjork samples to great effect and now I'm glad to say the same for the prominent Margaret Thatcher features on this record. Hopefully one day she'll be a permanent fixture of the band.
I absolutely knew you'd pick up on how the tracks sound better when played all together instead of as separate singles. The context really brings everything together
I'd say YOTS is a bit more accessible than NLDW, it's somewhere around Exmilitary and Bottomless Pit. Quality wise, I really think this is up there with The Money Store. I'd give it 10/10, but my rating system is a lot more forgiving than yours.
The first time I listened to YOTS it was with my headphones on, volume cranked up nearly to the point where I'd get a splitting headache. "The Fear" was something else. Hearing it for the first time, blasting into my head left me feel dirty and unnerved like I'd been sat me down and forced to watch someone get the shit kicked out of them, just a single speck of blood landing on my face. It wasn't an enjoyable listen at all; damn, it was awesome.
This album is fucking amazing. The Fear is one of the best songs I've heard in years. I'm glad Fantano gave it a 9 because the other reviews are far too low. I would say most of their albums are 10s and that in the future people will accept that. Nobody can do what Ride does, he's incredible. And obviously the beats are superb too.
Top 10: KSG, YOTS, Boarding House Reach, AAL, Ion, Orpheus vs the Sirens, Wide Awake!, Veteran, Your Queen is a Reptile, The Sciences. GFC will probably end up on the year end list but probably somewhere closer to where DAMN or MBDTF ended up in their respective years.
Well, Anthony i gotta say, Thank you. You have showed me probably the best band I have ever heard and I really appreciate it. If it wasn't for you maybe even millions wouldn't listen to their albums, mixtapes ect. And I would just like to say I'm now a fan of death grips from 2022 onward.

5:48 I'm relatively new to Death Grips, but hearing Fantano praise Black Paint and that being one of my favorite songs by them yet, I feel secure in diving in deeper.
cool
Listen to Jenny Death for more heavy guitar tracks
tachyon = greatest sawng evah
meesalikeu Exmilitary in general is just greatness. Definitely has the best opening track in their entire discography imo.
jagenmount work for what, money? I got all the money in the world. I'm the king, man. I run the underworld, guy
I love it!
6ix9ine: Blows up in 2018
Death Grips: Release an Album in 2018 and call it Year of the Snitch
Coincidence?? I think not!
Imo their best album, just the way it flowed and Ride's lyrics felt better this time
I agree.
WELP WRONG AGAIN MELON, WHERE IS THE 10/10?
Dylan Stevenson doesn't quite hit the mark bit it's thoroughly good.
Dylan Stevenson Little Richard was so bad the album lost an entire point.
Dylan Stevenson 10/10 review it again!
Kids See Ghosts
he gave four out of the seven Death Grips projects a 9 and also one 10. The average for their discography in his opinion is like a 9.
absolute madman
Bout the same for me if not higher.
borges johnson yeah same ngl
9 + 10 + 8 + 6 + 9 + 9 + 9 = 60
60 / 7 = 8.57
The mean average of a Death Grips album’s score is a decent 8. Thanks a lot Government Plates smh
@@R-H-B melon changed the GP score to 7 and u missed out Fashion Week with the same score
@@Gvrgt ah you’re right. That would bring the average to 8.375
The fear is a masterpiece
I love it so much. It hurts in a way i can't get enough of
Yes Anthony, we know how much you love Lil Pump. I'm just trying to watch a Death Grips review.
Death Grips can’t top the snitch in Harry Potter though
CezaMVO time to get to photoshopping this

MELON IS ONLINE
never in a million years...
Bandstand I'm counting on you for those samples dude
Your videos are the laziest sample trash
9chan let the kid get his frustrations out...
Bandstand stfu, dumb bitch. Your boyband will flop miserably
my whole fucking life
I'm really pleased that Death Grips, while maintaining the essence of their core sound, is expanding from it's core members. They previously employed Bjork samples to great effect and now I'm glad to say the same for the prominent Margaret Thatcher features on this record. Hopefully one day she'll be a permanent fixture of the band.
r/deathgrips and mu should be pleased
This is my favorite Death Grips album !
Adult Swim stream - " sound's like a 90's rave"
theneedledrop Official Review - "sounds like a 90's rave on drugs"
hmmmmmm
but it does sound like a 90s rave
Idk,a 90s rave kinda suits it more
i feel like alot of death grips songs could be defined as "what a 90s rave whouldve felt like if you were on enough drugs to kill a horse"
Cal Cuchesta is offline? :(
The first time I listened to YOTS it was with my headphones on, volume cranked up nearly to the point where I'd get a splitting headache.
And obviously the beats are superb too.
you're that punk in the comment sections
@@arbodeltaco that's not very nice!
you're crazy
@@Frost-ze6rw Huh!
I see you realized Stefan's stage name is just "RIDE" instead of "MC Ride". You still called Andy Flatlander for no reason
On god you put me into Death Grips , never fully got a taste of em till your reviews, thank you 😤❤️
0:35 *modern music today*
Damn, three 9s in a row
I'm feeling a pretty pretty 9 on this album
Kids See Ghosts and Year of the Snitch for the first and second place in Melon's top 50 albums of the year
Morgan Flowers YOTS with the upset to get #1 (deservingly I might add)
Or be in top 5 still good
He'll probably do a redux review of the new Father John Misty, give it a 10, and have it at number 1 again
Daughters did you hella dirty HAHAHHAHAHA
Did Anthony just call Andy "Flatlander"?
A 6/10 really??!??
fisk 9/10
Hunter Childress nah this comment clearly states a 6/10
Hunter Childress yeah what are you talking about?
cmon dumbass he said light to decent 7 stop tryna fool these guys
Flower Boy haha yeah it’s all jokes we all knew it was a 7/10 jokes off you got ussss
I like the Anthony fandango asmr at the end
My girlfriend be like:
Worst tracks: Little Richard
yeah.
Well, Anthony i gotta say, Thank you.
You have showed me probably the best band I have ever heard and I really appreciate it. If it wasn't for you maybe even millions wouldn't listen to their albums, mixtapes ect.
And I would just like to say I'm now a fan of death grips from 2022 onward.
welcome to the fold!
