Both are typical questions and your answers are spot on. Regarding the definition of an “assault rifle/weapon” it seems the definitions the gun grabbers use focus on external features, such as collapsing stock and a pistol grip. Hopefully, SCOTUS will settle some of these issues although I’m not holding my breath.
Do you need an AR? Does anybody need a Ferrari, a Rolex, a Cybertruck? Shooting is fun. It has practical uses and gives you lifesaving skills but people miss the most important part, it's fun. Learning and accomplishing something while having fun is gratifying.
Why do I need an AR? Because when I enlisted in the ARMY, I swore an oath to uphold and protect our constitution against our enemies both foreign and domestic. My oath did not end when I left active service and since the tools that may be necessary to honor my oath like the AR are no longer issued to me by our government, it's up to me to acquire, train and be proficient with the equivalent tools that I may find myself up against.

I find it's usually pointless to even reply to any questions they ask. No answer given is going to satisfy them regardless of facts or explaining what they think they know is myth. If you answer 1 question they will just continue to ask fruitless questions in an attempt to trap you so in the end it's just a waste of time. Please go on at length about the supposed “end” of the militia (the people) when a standing army was established. Also, go in depth about “well regulated”.
