I have been watching your adventures for nearly 13 years with great interest. I was stationed in Tachikawa AB during 1964-1966 and then stayed in Japan for another 8 years. I was married to a Japanese girl for 48 year before she died and I married another Japanese girl (of my first wife’s choosing) in 2019. Akemi and I have booked our ticket for Sept 1 thru Nov 1. We will be staying in Tachikawa at my friends house. In my younger years I was very much like you, but now I am 77 with Parkinson’s and getting around is difficult, but I still love Japan and have so many friends and memories. Seeing your adventures brings back so many memories. I just could not believe that you moved to Tachikawa. I just may see you around town someday. Bill and Akemi Patton
Sorry to hear about the Parkinson's! My Stepdad just got diagnosed this week. We already see how difficult it is for him and he caught it fairly early. Be well my friend!
You have a fascinating story. I’m sorry about your diagnosis. My dad passed in 2014 with Parkinson’s. Check out Dr Berg on UA-cam. His knowledge may help. God bless you….
Thanks for your service my friend. My wife and I and kids passed through Tachikawa and Yokota twice; once in 1966 enroute to Sasebo and again in 1969 on our way back to CONUS. As I remember one was a SAC Base and the other a regular USAF Base. They even had the bus windows covered during our transit from one base to the other. What really surprised me were the accommodations that the AF provided it's troops and families. Compared to what was available from the Navy in Sasebo it was the difference between night and day. My condolences to for your lost but congratulations on finding happiness again.
I was in Tachikawa during the quake. That monorail was actually still running after the quake. Tachikawa is like a mini Shinjuku, I think. I lived in Fuchu for about 7 years, so Tachikawa was a regular haunt. BIC Camera used to have an outlet on the top floor. Not sure it's still there, but it used to have really cheap gear. I got an ipod classic for Y10,000, for example.
I like that they offer events like this! To encourage people to get out, see their community, and find new things and places they probably never would without this rally.
Welcome to “Tama”(多摩),the fascinating western part of Tokyo. If you live in the western part of Tokyo, you will never end up not remembering this kanji no matter how bad you were at kanji. The western part of Tokyo is often considered more rural than the central part, but don't be fooled. You will unexpectedly come across lots of interesting things in western Tokyo that you will not find in eastern or central Tokyo.
I loved my time in my beautiful town- Tachikawa! A lot has probably changed since I was there but here is my memory… American military folks like to visit Tachikawa as their big city (w/o needing to catch the 1hr. Ride to Tokyo. Because many US military folks don’t read kanji well they call Tachikawa ‘shakes and fries’ because that is what the kanji looks like. The public high school while I was there was ranked #1 or #2 (in terms of smarts) in the greater Tokyo area. It was a really cool school with no school uniforms. They had a lot of pride that their former student became the governor of Tokyo. There was a cult located extremely close to the station. It looked like a military compound but it is actually a sect of Buddhism-the kind where the leader believes she is extra special. I was so broken hearted that I dated someone in that cult because I knew I wanted no part of that religion.
Looks like you guys moved to a neat little city! These stamp rallies seem like a really fun way to explore and discover stuff.. and yes, I'm in favor of a new train line/monorail line video. I really enjoyed those in the past 👍
We need to officially hang out then because I'm only a few stations away. I'm usually IN Tachikawa like once a week, but I commute through it every day.
Thanks for another great video! Interesting to see your new surroundings. I'd definitely watch a monorail or Chuo Line video, since i've watched all your other train/metro line vids in the past and enjoyed them. Never gotten a toothbrush from my dentist here in France. Maybe as a kid, but not as an adult, i don't think that's a thing over here. Looking forward to watching the new house video whenever it comes, there's no rush!
'Hot yoga' is actually a thing. It's yoga but in a hotter environment, so you get a better workout out of it, apparently. But whatevs. I hate working out 🤣 Also "it smells like Asia up in here'. "I've got news for you!". Loved that 😆
Meat pie was screaming for a beer. Curry looked GOOD. If Trump was in office, Putin would never have done it. Like it or not, it’s true. And if I was China, I’d totally be going for Taiwan (especially while the current US Prez & “son” are pointlessly in Ireland). Dug the little insights and the IKEA stories.
I have family in Tachikawa that's been there ~35 years. I have only been a handful of times...but its great to see familiar places that you have shown.
I think 馬鹿うま in that context is an abbreviation of うまい so it's more like "Stupidly tasty" or something more along that line. Look what you made me do, man. I've become those annoying "Errmmm actually..." commenter on the internet. 😅
I remember when Kyde had her hair long when you guys lived in Kumagaya, and now Tachikawa. Been enjoying your videos for so many years, I can't help but say, you've been my favorite. Thanks for all sharing your journey. Sending love from LA.
Your summation of how the stamp rally made you see and do things you might not otherwise do was apt. Did you note that Meat Punch was across the street from the pharmacy you skipped earlier in the day? Google Reviews gives Meat Punch only 3.8 stars--how would you rate it? We always enjoy your perspicacity and humor!
Wow, with six wheels that's not a bicycle anymore, that must be a hexicle! 33:35 Although... it appears to have two driven rear wheels and two in front for steering, and then the two smaller ones... the thing they are attached to is almost like a trailer. So it's a quadracycle with a friend! As its "trailer" must be able to go over bumps separately from the other wheels, it probably pivots up and down a little but doesn't articulate like a trailer would. A funky thing you found!

When you guys were reading the content of the app, were you reading the English version? Otherwise, your Japanese translating skill must be very high. Excellent!
Regarding the unexpected support for Ukraine, here in the West there have been occasional news items outlining the progression of Japan's involvement in the war: first they showed some anti-Russian sentiment regarding the movement of Russian ships near Japanese waters en route to the Black Sea, and most recently Japan attested it would support Finland (another country that shares a border with Russia) in it's NATO bid. It feels like Japan is judiciously looking for ways to stick it to Russia without getting too heated.
Yea, Im aware of the govt movements which aren't that odd, especially as Russia and Japan don't have a great relationship (they are literally still at war!) but it's not too common to see the "average man" in Japan showing such info about international affairs. -E

Perhaps it isn’t for tourism but a way of advertising.. the prizes must be paid for by someone.. I’d guess participating businesses which get traffic and pay for the ad space so to speak 🤔
