This is the most impressive I have ever seen Phil Anselmo...... And I have seen him on stage with PanterA and Down many times.... Pretty amazing, deep and candid. His brutal honesty is really amazing.
Phil, thank you. I'm a 40 year old that loves your music. I stumbled on your interviews 2 months ago. I was on a legit script of pharma-heroin(oxy 30's 3X a day) and percocettes for the last 10 years. I straightened my fucking back bone amd threw out all my meds.. I went into hardcore withdrawals, jumped on a greyhound bus and went 200 miles to detox in Albany, ny. It was hard, it's still hard. I will overcome. Thanks AGAIN PHIL ANSELMO!!!
this is one of the most inspiring interviews ever. im about to turn thirty ive been into pantera since i was 12 phil has been an idol to me since i was kid. i have been having lower back problems they r calling degenerative joint disease, it go t so bad a couple weeks ago i could barely walk they prescribed me muscle relaxers and vicodin i still have some left cuz i dont like to take them unless i have too ive seen this interview before and phils words have stuck in my head about opiates
phil should be real proud of himself, he came through the hell that eats so many musicians. Heroin has killed so many great artists and he survived. It's great to see he survived, we love you Phil x
Always loved Phil and Pantera. This whole interview is enlightening. From 5:57 to 6:04 you can really tell he was ashamed. Happy to see he is/has turned it around. R.I.P Dime
phil is the absolute PERFECT anti drug spokesman! bless em for doing this and laying it all out on the table. i certainly learned a lot from watching this. pantera forever!
I can't believe i've never seen interview before... Phil looks like hes got a lot of pain to deal with. But hes a fucking hero man... to get sober after everything hes done. Bless you brother.
I'm glad to see Phil Anselmo is happy and healthy and sober from painkillers and heroin. Idon't believe the media and VH1's portrayal of him. He has some serious courage and balls to get infront of these people and tell them some of the most horrible days of his life on drugs, and what the affects and aftermath of it all I have nothing but respect for him and his music.
Today's youth has no idea what Philip is saying or what he went through, what he managed to fight off!!!! and they do not know who he really is a milestone in everything that means heavy metal today!!! They think they are smart and know it all but it takes will and power to do what Philip did and still does every single day!! I am thankful to have the honor to be his follower!
thank u for uploading this sarah bee i hope it helps many people i know it has helped me in many ways alos thanks for keeping up and at my computer way longer than i should be lol ive had my bouts with addiction i did meth for a few years he is dead on about will, u have to want it for yourself now if i can only do the same with these damn cigs lol
@migraine516 is that the tab you put under your tongue? its really expensive but its easier to get off than the methadone i heard. in canada its like 20$ a day where meth is like 6-7$ a day. im on meth but i have a health plan that covers my drinks for me when i pay a small fee per year. got all my carries too!
Phil "You start playing music 'cause you love it" The audience "Yes, sir" Sir Philip Anselmo, that has a nice ring to it. haha Phil deserves the respect. He's been from the lowest of the lows, to highest of highs (Success), and he's still standing (and clean).
Phil Anselmo has such an interesting story, amazing that he is alive today, his autobiography would be a great read! I agree with him in regards to not fearing today's youth, but actually pitying them. Heroin doesn't necessarily come in bags, opiate based pills are more potent, pure and manufactured in huge numbers because of over prescribing doctors making millions in "Pain Clinics" They can laugh about it. However the majority of these young people have NO IDEA what Phil is describing.
I feel the same way about Phil, except, I follow no-one. I meet people or see them via media. They become milestones. I use what I can and leave behind what I can't.
To all those losers out there that think she's into Phil... Think again, she is taking a journey with Phil. Listening to his story in AWE!! not lust... My Respect goes out to Phil, getting back up on his feet and spreading the tale that was his life.. Respect to ANYBODY that can beat the heroine demon..
I truly feel the pain he was talkin about. I was a fuckin junkie and alcoholic. I pulled my self out because of other peoples love and will mixed with mine
yea thats tru alot of things u see nowadays that were considered wrong in the 80s and 90s and things that make ppl different like today its so normal to be different that its weird to be normal
@blarpopo I think it was meant in terms of drugs. Your best friend can either stay strong and actually have a mind of his own and stay away from drugs or he can go the same way as you do and take drugs. That's what makes him a follower, but he's still your best friend, right? btw, the "you" wasn't meant to be you in personal, just as an example, don't get me wrong
@PatAaron519 i dose in toronto. my doctor is is in north york but i drink downtown toronto. its with OATC. they're pretty good. are you with them too? i go down 3mg every week. was at 80mg now im at 61mg. slowly but surely. havent been any withdrawal symptoms at all. i dont understand people who say meth is impossible to get off. if you do right theres no problem at all.
He is a little bit slower (mentally, that is) these days from the early days, but I guess dope will do that to you, but it is a interesting insight in his life!!!!! Very interesting!!!
I thought the last time he did heroine, was when we was dead for like 4 minutes..cant believe he picked up the needle after that! so glad hes sober and rocking again!
around 1 55 when he says it's there baby it's a plague automatically in my mind the song good friends and a bottle of pills started playing in my head the part in the song where he's like " i called her baby she called me daddy and i smacked her ass" it's like when he said baby it triggered that song in my mind haah
@matrox999 Yes. Mike was arrested for possession (I think) after katrina and had to give up heroin cold turkey in jail.. Phil paid about $200k (I think) to bail him out. I think that's how the story went anyway.. I'm sure someone here could confirm or deny.
He is a little bit slower (mentally, that is) these days from the early days, but I guess dope will do that to you, but it is a interesting insight in his life!!!!! Very interesting!!! But he still is a smart guy!!! And hopefully he has gotten his shit straightened out!!!!
@Jigzy77 never been addicted to a substance (aprt from nicotine lol) but respect for sorting ur self out and staying clean......heroine really is the devils dust PEACE
I never you said that you thought you knew it all. If you're a metal fan, you know what Pantera meant to metal. If not, you probably don't. Age doesn't matter. You don't have to be 65 to know what The Beatles meant to rock music. You don't have to be 35 to know what Pantera meant to metal. You've just got to be a metal fan. Plenty of those around my age (20, BTW).
@mindydee113 thanks! $80 a week is a lot of money for something that makes you feel normal for sure. is there any healthcare plans that will help pay for your drink? in canada we have a different healthcare system but i have a plan for people who make little money or no money that makes meds so much cheaper. you should ask at the clinic if theres some type of assistance to make things cheaper. best of luck my friend! if you want off, you can do it. just want it.
@jetulik Washed up joke? This man helped millions of people through his music and inspired thousands of bands to do the same. Threw an injury (from doing what he loved) he became addicted to pain killers and eventually heroin because of doctor and fda failures. Now he has cleaned himself up, and is trying to help aspiring musicians to not make the same mistakes as him. What have you done?
Oh my god..... His story brought one hell of a cold memory. Same thing that happened with me and my best friend. Except it was not heroin. It was morphine, xanax and hydros... To this day, he is sure that I have died. I'm sure I was too. After both of us overdosed like that. One of us was bound to die. Glad that crow didn't fly that night. All I can remember was being smacked, punched, and kicked awake. My name being called out.... JAMES!! JAMES!!! People, don't EVER pick up pills!!!
@mindydee113 ive been on for about 13 or 14 months. the highest does ive been at was 80mg but now i come down 3mg every week. im at 55mg right now. if you try to kick at 15mg you will be fucked. once you get down to 15 or so, start dropping 1 or 2 mg max per week. the idea is to taper yourself down so you dont even notice a difference. but being on the drink for 14 years, your body needs it more than mine does.
I wonder if Phil was on methadone for a long time to try to get off heroin, and if so, how was he able to detox from methadone when he says how awful it is? What finally got him through the methadone detox?
@maziku hey man wate till yaget down to 0 then wate a week and u will be in hell i went through it and felt like i was going to die for 3 months and then when the pain went away the mental shit started i had to go back on it
so true about methadone, its the worst kick ive ever went through, but I always save extra meth in case of emergency.Kicking methadone is by far way worse than smack ive been on it nover 15 years and will never get off it,it was the biggest mistake getting on meth
Man...this is deep, a side i never knew that he went through. I just hope he is in peace and is living well.
This is a chilling, incredibly powerful tale - straight from the heart. Listen and learn.
I've never seen such a great story teller as Phil.
Anselmo....... is STONE!!! I respect this man alot more now that I have seen this lecture!!! And the Honey thats hosting is a sweety!!
RESPECT!
the most moving interview Ive ever seen
this is one of the most inspiring interviews ever. im about to turn thirty ive been into pantera since i was 12 phil has been an idol to me since i was kid. i have been having lower back problems they r calling degenerative joint disease, it go t so bad a couple weeks ago i could barely walk they prescribed me muscle relaxers and vicodin i still have some left cuz i dont like to take them unless i have too ive seen this interview before and phils words have stuck in my head about opiates
I used to like Phil, then i went off him after Dimebag passed, but after watching this i have a new respect for him. He is a very honest guy.
Phil is an artist. Plain and simple.
"I don't fear you....i feel sorry for you" what a badass
phil should be real proud of himself, he came through the hell that eats so many musicians. Heroin has killed so many great artists and he survived.
It's great to see he survived, we love you Phil x
Dude, that was a riveting story, and man this dude can tell a story!! On to part 5...
You are right on this one I guess he made me an individual he made me not be afraid and be strong! So true thanks!
Always loved Phil and Pantera. This whole interview is enlightening. From 5:57 to 6:04 you can really tell he was ashamed. Happy to see he is/has turned it around. R.I.P Dime

Phil's so great. Great speaker, entertaining.

I'm left without words on this one...
it's not a good interview.....but an hour of brilliant storytelling......
phil is the man of the land.......
"Sober is a harsh word"....All time classic Phil.
That story about Phil's friend is really shocking. It must be terrible. I think this is the best interview he ever gave.
He's right about that fear. When you know that the sickness is coming, it's like you're awaiting a nightmare.
Stay clean, man. We need you!
This is great.Thanx for posting
Powerful interview...
They (the powers that be) should be broadcasting this on every TV channel all over the world!!
I feel as though Phil would be one chill guy to hang out with and just talk to.
Man you gotta love this guy!
He told that story man. Put shivers down my fucking spine. A saint he ain't, but a God you are sir.
I cried at the end of this bit.
sober is a harsh word!
you're the man phil anselmo!
I love every bit of this sooo much. Was March 16th, 2009 when this convication actually took place, or was the uploader taking a good guess??
dude is a pretty captivating story teller.
"like the actor marty feldman"...funny, and nice descriptive note.
High Schools should have Phil come in and give this story.
thank u for uploading this sarah bee i hope it helps many people i know it has helped me in many ways alos thanks for keeping up and at my computer way longer than i should be lol ive had my bouts with addiction i did meth for a few years he is dead on about will, u have to want it for yourself now if i can only do the same with these damn cigs lol

Phil
"You start playing music 'cause you love it"
The audience
"Yes, sir"
Sir Philip Anselmo, that has a nice ring to it. haha
Phil deserves the respect. He's been from the lowest of the lows, to highest of highs (Success), and he's still standing (and clean).
Phil Anselmo has such an interesting story, amazing that he is alive today, his autobiography would be a great read!

They can laugh about it. However the majority of these young people have NO IDEA what Phil is describing.
GOD bless you phil!!!
such inspiration
Listen to the man, he speaks from experience. Learn from it.
I feel the same way about Phil, except, I follow no-one. I meet people or see them via media. They become milestones. I use what I can and leave behind what I can't.
Stay alive Phil...Please
.... speechless
I Fucking LOVE you Phil Anselmo
greatest man in metal.
phil would be a true loyal friend, hes the back up you want in a bar fight.
Phil is great!!!
the story would make an intense scene for a movie
To all those losers out there that think she's into Phil... Think again, she is taking a journey with Phil. Listening to his story in AWE!! not lust... My Respect goes out to Phil, getting back up on his feet and spreading the tale that was his life.. Respect to ANYBODY that can beat the heroine demon..
I truly feel the pain he was talkin about. I was a fuckin junkie and alcoholic. I pulled my self out because of other peoples love and will mixed with mine
ohil anselmo is a fucking legend!! without doubt one of the best frontment of all time!! long live phil!
@Jigzy77 feel u bro just got off maintenance meds (suboxone) and its been 4 sleepless painful weeks but i am off heroin and opiates!!!

@blarpopo I think it was meant in terms of drugs. Your best friend can either stay strong and actually have a mind of his own and stay away from drugs or he can go the same way as you do and take drugs. That's what makes him a follower, but he's still your best friend, right?

Does anyone know who he's talking about at 6:30?
@PatAaron519 i dose in toronto. my doctor is is in north york but i drink downtown toronto. its with OATC. they're pretty good. are you with them too? i go down 3mg every week. was at 80mg now im at 61mg. slowly but surely. havent been any withdrawal symptoms at all. i dont understand people who say meth is impossible to get off. if you do right theres no problem at all.
@blackpontiac why do u think she got to interview him....
He is a little bit slower (mentally, that is) these days from the early days, but I guess dope will do that to you, but it is a interesting insight in his life!!!!! Very interesting!!!
All I can say is 'DAMN'!
I thought the last time he did heroine, was when we was dead for like 4 minutes..cant believe he picked up the needle after that! so glad hes sober and rocking again!
@Kendall2001 yeah id like to know more too.
@maziku Yes it's the sub lingual tab. It saved my life.
around 1 55 when he says it's there baby it's a plague automatically in my mind the song good friends and a bottle of pills started playing in my head the part in the song where he's like " i called her baby she called me daddy and i smacked her ass" it's like when he said baby it triggered that song in my mind haah
@thaliemiel Kinda true but this is about Phil not Ashley Fallon
phil scares me so bad i´ll never take drugs again.
@Testamentslayer Haha, I don't know how many times I've said that quote to myself for the past years.
@joegevans seriously? is mike the friend?
it scares me to phil,im trying to come off methadone but its the fear that stopped me coming off it sooner, its a slow process..
i met phil in 2007 in montreal i was 20 minutes huim it was intense !!!!
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's Mike (99.99%), and in fact I almost tagged him for this video but thought I'd better not because we don't know for sure.
Imagine killing your best friend...
and NOT being able to bring him back like that>
Now that is a fucking hardcore story.
@matrox999 Yes. Mike was arrested for possession (I think) after katrina and had to give up heroin cold turkey in jail.. Phil paid about $200k (I think) to bail him out. I think that's how the story went anyway.. I'm sure someone here could confirm or deny.
indeed.
DAMN STRAIGHT!!! i'm on the methedone and have been for 5 years and i'm TERRIFIED of what would happen if i came off the meth!! its a rough life man:(
6:02 look at his face pure disappointment in himself, but, obviously made him sooo much stronger
@thaliemiel who do you mean??

and i went GOOM right in his chest! Its a serious story but that part fuckin kills me man
Oh my god..... His story brought one hell of a cold memory. Same thing that happened with me and my best friend. Except it was not heroin. It was morphine, xanax and hydros...

She puttin' Elmer's Glue on that chair listening to Philip.
She is Beautiful!

Phil, these are students, probably not all your fans, don't try to get them to cheer when you're saying fuck all.
"Sober's a hard word". Lol He is the fuckin man, wish Pantera was still around
so true about methadone, its the worst kick ive ever went through, but I always save extra meth in case of emergency.Kicking methadone is by far way worse than smack ive been on it nover 15 years and will never get off it,it was the biggest mistake getting on meth
phil wouldnt want you to be a follower, he would want you to be an individual.
when i cam off it i was on 120mg for about 2 years man it was hell.
