      I am Italian and you can put everything you want on your pizza. Don't believe my fanatical Italian fellows. Just be careful, if you go to some fancy restaurant which claims to do "Italian cuisine" and they have in the menu pinapple pizza, maybe they are trying to scam their customers, because It Is just something that does not belong to our culture. Often Italian restaurants are not Italian at all and they are just there to take advantage of the "fame" of our cooking tradition. With that said, enjoy your pizza with every seasoning you want.

    As an italian dubbing student I really need to say something about this masterpiece.
    I'm definitely proud of such an acclamation for the italian dubbing in the comments and I'm obviously proud of it. And yes, I find the french version odd just anyone else, but there's something that nobody here pointed out yet: even though the french language is definitely too funny to be considered scary in this scene, I must admit that the script adaptation (the act of changing words and sentences to better adapt the script to the lips' movements) is absolutely outstanding for the french version. Actually I’d say it's accuracy level feels very close to the italian one.
    Speaking about the other languages… Well yes: I agree that they are way more angry and tough than the french one, but they all lack natural acting traits. In other words, they are “more spoken than impersonated”, while the french one is very close to reality like the original english or the italian one. I guess these differences are due to the great cinematographic tradition that americans french and Italians raise and share together (according to the consequent need of a very well done dubbing) from the beginning of the so-called seventh art.

    • @DecalageChope
      @DecalageChope 3 роки тому +52

      I am French and I only know the French version. The comic side comes from the voice actor and the choice of words. For example the insult "bougre de fiotte". No one uses this insult seriously in France. It is both ironic and contemptuous in this context. You have to know the French language and culture well to understand. Otherwise it just sounds like a funny thing. In any case, the goal of the French voice actor is not to scare people. He doesn't have the threatening tone of the Italian voice actor. We compare two different intentions I think.

    • @SevyShow
      @SevyShow 3 роки тому +15

      @@DecalageChope Well, it's hard to estabilish the intentions' evidece meant in the dubbung process without the direct witness of the dubbing director. However, as a dubbing semi-professional, I can state that the current dubbing habit in Italy, usually trends to faithfully reproduce the original intentions of the actor.
      Assuming the last concept as the final reason for dubbing movies, I'd say that the "weird sound" and the lack of violence of the french version is more due to the language itself, since it is widely recognised as a "toffee-nosed posh accent" and in general a bit too gentle to be considered scary.
      However, the actor's skill counts aswell since the same thing could be said for the italian langiage. It's not a secret that italian is widely referred as so called "romanze language for excellence" hence always used as a reference for love and romance in songs, movies, locations, etc... Nevertheless, the dubbing result from Luca Ward (Samuel L. Jackson dubber) is damn scary, I assume mostly because of the skills and his wide experience.
      Said so and being less serious, I guess that all the joke around the french dubbing is mostly due to the "qua" sound (Qua? = What?) which relentlessly and undoubtedly reminds the cry of a duck...

    • @DecalageChope
      @DecalageChope 3 роки тому +14

      @@SevyShow It is impossible to be faithful when translating. As we say in Italian "Traduttore, traditore". You have to make choices to adapt. Otherwise, you don't know French very well to think that it can't be aggressive. He can be. In the extract it is not because it is not the choice of the voice actor. To draw conclusions on such an extract does not make sense.

    • @GoodMusicManiac999
      @GoodMusicManiac999 3 роки тому +3

      Another factor is the way the language itself sounds. German always seems such an intimidating one because of its guttural and harsh phonetics. Spanish has that kind of pomposity and French is either irritant or charming. Italian has no particular accenture and sounds more natural, just like English. This has a really big impact in a listener's ear, and that's probably why Italian is so popular among foreigners.
      Speaking of translation. I am a translator myself and the "traduttore traditore" is something only people expecting a literal transposition might think. Because, yes, we have to retain the original meaning, but there are lots of other aspects to take into account. In movie adaptation context I think the biggest problem is the need to bypass censorship or at least wanting to sound "softer" (aka "politically correct" wording), so there's a restricted choice of words/sentences to choose from. This might lead to giant fails too.
      Or there's the possibility that the original wording has no perfect translation in the target language. That's very hateful because there's no time to give an explanation, so the closest word in meaning is often used. And of course, you have to maintain the same time, style and register of the original otherwise voice actors couldn't stay synched with the actors.

      @@GoodMusicManiac999 You have to take into account that a foreign language does not sound the same depending on the language of the listener. Moreover, stereotypes play a big role. You find French charming because you have heard it in charming contexts. In France 50 years ago, English sounded weird and ridiculous, as if English speakers were eating gum. Today it has a good image, it sounds classy and modern. It is associated with Hollywood movies and American series. Concerning the dubbers, you forget the main constraint: the lip constraint. You have to follow the speaker's mouth with other words. Of course, you have to adapt.
