Ok, as an Floorgasm veteran it is always nice to see when new carefree listener get his/her first Floorgasm and gets Floored to the army....That is point of no return, it is like a singularity of black hole where Nightwish army is waiting to get new soldiers.
As an rookie in Nightwish army, you have so much great, even epic songs to study.
When your rookie time is over(Have listened 5-10 songs from Nightwish), you will be promoted to be ready for epic songs like "Greatest Show on Earth" and "Poet and Pendulum" (Study back ground of Poet and Pendulum before listening it and guaranteed you will dive to the emotional mode when you know the story behind the song).
Bass guitar player Marko is also great vocalist, you will find that fact too...But when Floor and Marko sings together, that is something, they fit 100% together as an vocalists.
Nightwish is musical wonderland and tasty musical fruit basket...

Sarah Brightman is great but nothing like Dulce Pontes or Floor Jansen
I don't know how I missed this reaction until now... BUT - Floor Jansen deserves the title of most versatile vocalist. Fine - Lets talk Sarah Brightman - Never heard her gravel voice... no growling there... How low can you go... Mixed belts? I mean, Sarah is good, but she is no Kiri Te Kanawa or any of the opera singers... - Let's keep things in perspective: Thus far, every song Floor is killing was NOT written for her. Phantom? Written for Sarah... Ghost Love Score? Written for Tarja... Poet? Written for Anette... Let's take an objective look at the voice challenges in Greatest Show - The low's, the quick changes, the breath control needed... Give Floor her due! Again, take a look at those we are comparing - Every one is a rare talent and master for certain but I don't see any of the others singing outside of a single genre... When they have the same portfolio with the depth Floor has, I'll entertain these silly arguments. For now, I haven't seen anyone else who can drop in to so many different styles and pull it off, much less crush it. Oh yeah, don't forget many of the 'great' performances of the singers mentioned were recorded for 'special' productions. Sarah Brightman singing for a show being recorded can afford to stretch for a single production. You can't do that when running the concert circuit. You need to drop things a notch so you don't damage your voice. GSOE? Sung at the END of a FULL SET - and after a complete season long run of festival concerts. ETC...

Floor is the best! I started to listening to Nightwish again because she is the singer now! I listening to her singing since 2002. I've seen her live twice with her ancient band, After Forever, she is just amazing live.
It is always fun to find a guy who hasn't heard Floor before and watch the shock on their faces.
It's so fun watching someone see this for the first time. They continually raise eyebrows and we're all saying to ourselves, "Just wait." Nice react. There is so much more. Please keep it up.

Not to diminish any other band member of course, they're all integral pieces of the puzzle and made the band what it is today. It's just that he's the root of everything - without him, there's no picture on the puzzle box :)
Yes. Everyone can see that Floor, and Tarja before her, are great singers, but the songs have to be great too. And they are! So complex, varied, and intelligent.
And Emppu plays the guitar like a true champ.
Some reactors get hung up by the lyrics, but always have the "old" ones. This song has evolved in time.

Wacken 2013 were the best days of my life. I got there more or less for Motörhead but it was at that time i really fell in love with Nightwish and well the goddess....

Well, you've just witnessed Her Majesty Northern Valkyrie Goddess Floor Jansen (pronounced Yansen, she is Dutch), and yes, she has phenomenal voice and range, she totally controls stage, crowd and emotions of every living being who's listening to her singing. And she is really tall, I mean 6'1 + hills.
And goosebumps you experienced are called Floorgasm. It is official term.
Nightwish is a Finland symphonic metal band formed in 1996, and on the April 10th they're releasing their new album Human :||: Nature. Floor joined Nightwish in 2012, and before that they had Anette Olzon as a frontwoman, and before Anette - Tarja (Tar-ya) Turunen.
Nightwish is better live, always, so if live performance is available, go for it.
They have very diverse music, from more light songs to epic scores like that one, and to really heavy metal stuff.

I agree fully with your reaction to this masterpiece. I had to listen to it a couple of times in a row before I could take it in fully. There are so many different parts and tempo changes that I could't take them all in the first time. Not to mention Floor being absolutely fabulous with all her jumps between opera styled notes and belting rock style, standing there like a Valkyrie in leather... I mean come on! My favorite part is the audience reaction to her final high note (The sound of eighty thousand Germans loosing their sh*t...priceless!).
Because Floor has her own trilogy next one must be: Poet and the Pendulum live Wembley and then The Greatest Show On Earth live Tampere. Who agree?

And you shall watch Tarja songs as well before you come to the band's (Tuomas' ) masterpiece. You need to understand what happened before you can appreciate it totally. (Tarja was their 1st lead singer. She is great as well, different but also amazing. f.i. check out "Everdream", "Wishmaster" and of course her masterpiece "Phantom of the Opera" - all three from the "End of an Era" concert.)

Everyone of the 3 singers is different, have their own style and are fantastic with it. It is just about taste who You prefer.. Most of us in the Nightwish army doesn't fight for who is the best because they all 3 is fantastic in their own way.

Very close to my reaction the first time I saw this video. Welcome to the roller coaster ride that is Nightwish with Floor as the singer. All the songs from Wacken 2013 are outstanding, then the ones that are not in Wacken, you can watch from Wembley 2015 with the exception of The Greatest Show on Earth, then the remaining ones from Tampere 2015 and lastly the older songs from Buenos Aires 2019.

Very nice reaction! FYI: There are 82,000+ in the audience. The singer's name is Floor Jansen. Those goosebumps are called 'Floorgasms' in Nightwish Speak! GLS was the 13th of 15 songs they performed that night. I would recommend for your next NW reaction, either 'Ever Dream or 'Song of Myself' from the same Wacken 2013 concert.

At last, someone brought it to the point: „This is a MASTERPIECE“... Simple as that and yet so complex, as up to that point, he hadn‘t even reached the #floorgasm . After listening to this song for more than 50 times, I still get continuous goosebumps. It will always be like that. Floor Jansen is by far my favorite out of Nightwish‘s lead female vocalists.

I am so happy you are as awestruck as so many of us are when it comes to this wonderful wonderful band by the name of Nightwish, these amazingly talented and skilled musicians. Also, the goosebumps on your arms? Floorgasms :D Few singers can pull off what Floor Jansen does, she is a powerhouse and a very versatile vocalist at that.
Nightwish has had a total of 3 singers, the first one was Tarja Turunen who is more of an opera singer, Anette Olzen who is more popsinger sounding and now they have Floor who can do a lot of different musical genres with that powerful voice of hers. To be honest, I do love all 3 singers but... Floor has risen and become my favourite one :)
So next up, hm, perhaps you would enjoy song of myself also from wacken 2013? Lots of good songs from this concert, also worth out checking definitely is Storytime, Ghost river and Romaticide.

Welcome to the beginning down the road of excellence!! :) Song of Myself, Storytime, Ghost River (all from the same concert), but you really can't go wrong with anything they do. :) I listened to Nightwish back in the Tarja days, lost it a little with Annette (had her moments), but Floor is a level unto herself!! The group just seems so complete and exudes happiness with her now. Cheers!

The music is called symphonic metal and is very populair in Europe and South America. The band is from Finland and founded in 1996. So far the band has had 3 vocalists
1 Tarja Turunen (Finish) pure opera voice also very good live. (until 2005)
2 Anette Olzon (Swedish) more pop style. fine in the studio but not good live. (until 2012)
3 Floor Jansen* (Dutch) (current). * She is the vocalist you saw in this clip. She has a classical vocal background education and can sing any style she likes from jazz to opera high to growling low. Believe me when i tell you you have not even scratched the surface yet of what she's capable of.

Tuomas Holopainen (The keyboard player and creative mind behind the band. He writes about 95% of the music and lyrics)
Marco Hietela (the viking with the long beard (Bass and vocals)
Jukka "Julius" Nevalainen (The drummer)
Erno "Emppu" Vuorinen (the hobbit like guitar player)
Troy Donockley ( a person who did not play on this song but is a multi instrumentalist from the UK)
The clip was shot a few months after Floor jointed the band right in the middle of their US leg of the world tour. They asked her to join after tensions between the previous (Anette) vocalist and the rest of the band had rissen so high that they fired her. With close to a year still to go to complete the tour, and their next concert planned 2 day later they, needed a replacement fast. They called Floor because she had toured with them when she was part of the support bands"After Forever" and later "Revamp" on several occasions and they were quiet impressed by her vocals (who would not be?). She only had 2 days, including a flight from the Netherlands to the US, to learn the setlist and only had one rehearsal with the band a couple of hours before her first show and nailed it. Since they were making a documentary about the world-tour a lot of what happened was recorded. Great reaction, I am just a little private in the Nightwish Army. However to show you how much a fan I am of this group I am flying to L.A.in september (HOPEFULLY) to see them. I live in South Carolina which is almost 3,000 miles away. Plus I am almost 60 years old. Love to see you react to more of thier music.
