Fun fact about Leonardo in the aftermath of getting jumped: In season 3, Leonardo's voice actor changed. So they justification they went with , is that Shredder beat him so bad, that he permanently damaged his vocal cords, along with crippling his leg. The Shredder literally beat Leonardo into being permanently injured.

For context with the Triceratons; the dinos were at war with the Krang, and seeing Earth as one of their biggest bases across the galaxy, the triceratons didn't want to spend resources liberating the planet from the Krang hence their plan to simply wipe destroy the earth, until the turtles and the resistance stomped the Krang's main control, and contacted the Triceratons.
People wonder how this show has so many mature and well-written beats to it, but keep forgetting that this cartoon is an adaptation of a comic series from the 80's and not the other way around.
And Raph was pretty much prime Jason Todd after his first resurrection.Straight up wanting to catch bodies for the hell of it
Splinter became a rat after being hit with Ooze (goo that transform people into animal/or makes animals people like ala Turtles) when he was getting pet turtles (who also got hit with the Ooze, making them well them.)
Yup, but for further details it was by contact with the most recent animals for human and/or DNA samples.
Splinter bought some turtles in New York, and he ran into some Kranng. and when he fought them him and the turtles got splashed with mutagen. Which is how him and the turtles are the way they are now.

I've mentioned this in my reaction of Ultrom Shredder.Splinter is some incarnations specifically 1987,2012 & 2014(Rise Of The TMNT) are human turned rat the Ooze referred to Mutagen turned him sometime after he left Japan which brought to the the turtles pre-mutation.
Most comics,2003, & Mutant Mayhem Splinter is a born rat.
Also Karai's birth name is Miwa Hamato.
Fun fact about this series,this takes alot of stuff from different TMNT comic iterations.
Also April in this series is half-Kraang thus the powers.

I prefer Splinter as a man who became a rat. It just makes more sense. His beef with Saki and his ability to teach the turtles ninjutsu and basic human skills is just more direct when he used to be a person.
What's even more ironic about Slash being tossed, when you mentioned someone else being tossed into an electric sign, it was Raph.
Before Slash was mutated, he was Spike, Raph's PET turtle

In the 2012 iteration, Yoshi was in NY and bought a few turtles from a pet store(IYKYK) and encountered the Krang in disguise. He went to investigate & accidentally startled a rat; revealing himself to them. He stood 10 toes down, but a canister of mutagen got dropped & splashed all over both the turtles and Yoshi.
At that moment, Yoshi & the turtles mutated into Splinter & the TMNT. The rest is history
This version of Shredder is the living embodiment of HATRED!

This shredder version was that special combination of being a very powerful and menacing villain, but also one you just hate to watch sometimes. I remember I was SO pressed watching this show whenever he showed up. 2003 Utrom Shredder has this cool factor and charisma that makes him likable, but 2012 Shredder is just a thoroughly hate able piece of work. He'd pull all of this heinous shit, relishes in how it hurts people, would never take accountability for anything, but the moment you think he's about to get his ass beat, he just beats everyone's asses no matter what, even by cheating. Dude got jumped by 8 MUTANTS, two of which were practically super bosses in their own episodes (Slash and Leatherhead) and he STILL won the fight!
It REALLY made you want to see him get got. So when Leo finally cut his head off, it was a cheer worthy moment. You know you have a good villain when he can bring out strong emotions in the viewer.
Give '12 Shredder credit for badassery, no tech, no magic, no mutagen(until the end), just pure "badass normal/charles atlas superpower".
Due to my half of knowledge of tmnt 2012 series, I immediately ranted on splinters death-

To clarify the reason he turns into a rat is that he lives in the sewers of ny after his home burned down and he spends a lot of time among the rats in the sewer the turtles become human like due to their contact with splinter while he was still human but because splinter was around rats longer than the turtles he gets exposed to rat dna
This particular shredder was on timing, and the fact that this was a Nickelodeon show was crazy cool! i watched the entire series and it become my favorite turtles story. So many good call backs and updates to the original. Amazing!
Not that it really needs to be said, but this isn’t even the last we see of the 2012 Shredder. Later on in the show (SPOILERS, btw), the Shredder gets resurrected by Kavaxas, the lord of the Demodragons of the Netherworld.
Even though it was only a few months, to Shredder, it felt like he had been dead in the Netherworld for millennia/eons. With new plans to conquer the world and get revenge on the turtles, Shredder was now an undead zombie monster with the magical powers of regeneration and telekinesis. And of course, he still beat all the heroes in a fight with ease.
In the end, Shredder sacrificed himself to take Kavaxas and himself back to the Netherworld because he eventually decided that he’d rather be in Hell than in the world of the living.
Almost reminds me of Slade with Trigon
Animals that touch humans turn humanoid and humans that touch animals turn into humanoid versions of those animals but that's not always the case sometimes mutagen Is Random like what happened with Super Shredder that's not an animal that's just a buff man with knives and Mutagen Man is a blob 100 more examples

Splinter became a rat man thanks to the ooze, commonly called Mutagen in this version, during a confrontation with a Kraang, and that same incident resulted in Splinter's 4 new baby turtles to turn into the humanoid turtles we have now
Shredder didn't know Splinter was a rat until the incident where he went to save April from Shredder (when he saw that Splinter was a rat for the first time, Shredder straight up LAUGHED AT HIM) them constantly calling him a rat in the video is probably meant to be a "you rat bastard" thing or a joke

Shredder didn't actually turn Karai back, but thanks to the specifically spliced mutagen she fell into, she can shift between her human and mutant form
April's force powers are a long story, but her bloodline was effectively cultivated by the kraang, so they could use her DNA to perfect the mutagen, since it worked differently on Earth than in their home dimension. While doing so, they put some Kraang DNA into the O'Niel bloodline, so April is a Kraang/Human hybrid, which also makes her immune to mutagen. At first, she was just telepathic, mind reading and sensing people. During the space arc, she got full blown telekinesis
The other turtles and Mutanimals were off fighting Shredder's henchmen, they had split into two parties to try to find Shredder if I remember correctly
The same mutigen that turned the Turtles into biped humanoids who like pizza got of Splinter and turned him into a ratman

Okay you constantly hanging on to the fact that he's a rat is pissing me off but I will answer this CJ the champ got one detail wrong Shredder didn't find out he was a rat until the end of season 1 the same battle where he revealed that he stole his daughter so the fact that he is acting like they already knew is inaccurate to the show so no they did not already know now please stop hinging on the fact that he's a rat now

Nah man she’s immune to it, she’s actually tapped into a different alien races dna that the kraang hate about her but still find fascinating. It’s why they’re after her and whatnot, it’s a bunch a lore for her on this but she also trained and learned about this when she went to space with dr.honeycup and the turtles.
