Has anybody said it yet? They're so lovey dovey!
+
Real lovebirds 😊
Welp I guess you’re the first :3
This story is especially interesting knowing what we know now, that Willow lays eggs too (see the video All Our Birds if you don't know what I'm talking about). Kia's father reacted to territorially to Willow as if she was male.
SomeoneBeginingWithI homophobic bird dad LOL
I suppose he was skeptical of his young daughter having a suitor. ;p
Back when you didn't know Willow was a girl, haha. :)
I can relate to Willow =)
I think it's pretty adorable that they both wound up being females. Such is life folks.
I love these lesbian doves
Where's everyone getting info that they're both female from?
Which ones? I've looked up their names again and I can only find this video with them in.
All our birds
same ahaha
these 👏 doves 👏 are 👏 lesbian 👏 icons
these two birds have a better love story than twilight...too late? I don't think so
Beat me to it.
Hell, those two birds have a better love story then most romantic comedies these days.
INCLUDING Twilight.
Thank you for taking in animals in need.
Hi Jessi, why do you hold the doves with a flat hand? Is it due to Kia's balance problems or something with their feet?
You are awesome, asking questions about the part I cut out of the script, I knew it was important :) Yes, I use a flat hand because Kia is terrible at balancing. Sometimes I'll even put my other hand under her tail to help her use her tail like the 3rd leg of a tripod. Willow also sometimes needs a flat hand, but he does much better on my fingers. Their feet aren't nearly as strong as parrots, so they can't hold on as well.
AnimalWonders Montana pigeons and doves love flat surfaces right??
I've fostered doves for a month it was a great time
I'm officially addicted to this channel. These love birds' story was precious. Thank you so much for taking care of all of these creatures, and integrating all of your work into these insightful videos. As a videographer, I'd sell parts of my soul to have a host/presenter as on-point and well spoken as you. Plus you write all of your lines? Seriously, impressive work.
There is a pair of doves that visits my feeder each morning and I was so happy to see your dove friends!
As a dove owner myself, I have been waiting to meet and greet Willow and Kia for a while after seeing them here and there throughout the channel. Their story is even cuter than I could've imagined. :D My boy is actually meeting his prospective mate today (weird coincidence!) and I hope it goes as well. Though they'll just be neighbors for a while yet haha. Thank you for this video, Animal Wonders. :)
banndsand&co hey!! This is random but I have a dove/pigeon discord, just thought I'd throw the link on a 2 year old comment discord.gg/BfwkY2
Hey... so I know I'm super late, but Willow turned out to be a girl XD cute lesbian lovers
Butch Lesbian Willow... I love them
Wasn't it cleared a little later that they actually were both female?
Yes
What a sweet story! Thank you Jessie! They are beautiful. I really wish pet stores would not sell birds. Most people don't realize how much care they need and so they end up dumped somewhere. God bless you for rescuing these two precious creatures.
I love these cuties!
So cute!!
One of my very favorite stories you have told about your wonderful animals. I have a big smile on my face :) Thank you, Jessi!
Love your enthusiasm and obvious empathy for all these animals and birds. ❤️
If I had a pet, I would get tired of cleaning up after it too. That is why I don't have pets...
Too bad everyone like me, can't be as responsible. There would be a lot less animals in need.
I just like to appreciate the wonder and beauty on youtube videos like this one; and the doves were nice too., lol.
sorry...
Tbh I have 2 dogs, I get tired of cleaning after them however they been with me for 8 years so my love for them makes me be the responsible owner I am. It's just like being an adult I hate going to work but my need for not going homeless makes me be a good worker
I am really late with this question! Sorry! If the eggs were fertile, being a rescue that doesn't want to add to the problem, would coating the eggs in oil be considered a humane way to allow the nesting behavior without chicks ever hatching? I've seen this used with invasive bird populations as a way to stop the cycle but not hurt the parents. Love what you do and really appreciate your videos!
love you jessie
Doves are one of my favorites! Their feathers are so sleek!
I'm at the very beginning and I just realized someone is a big a Willow movie fan! :D
Love them!
We have a pair of ringneck doves in the back, they eat from our feeder. They're really shy!
You should begin taping when you receive new animals, as much as I enjoy the stories seeing something like the attempts to get the bird adopted by another, and the process of figuring out what's the matter in the first place, would be interesting things to see in the videos.
More hands-on videos might even have a positive effect on the channel and in turn on your preservation, although it might require the help of a camera person.
Other than that, great informative videos, Jessi really makes things upbeat and her obvious interest is contagious.
Jessi, I love your feather print top! Keep up the excellent work at Animal Wonders!
That's so cute 💚💚💚💚
So about 5 or 6 years ago, some ring necked doves showed out of nowhere in the Willamette Valley here in Oregon, then the population EXPLODED! This kind of explains way. I don't mind the 'who who who' cooing so much, but it always makes me giggle when they fly and use there 'HEEEGH' noise. such strange little birds. I'm just glad they aren't competing with the rock doves too much.
They're called collared Doves in the UK and they seem to be much more rare than wood or street pigeons in the South West of England. In the east though, they're pretty common. Though I know there's at least one breeding pair here, because I saw one flying with a twig in it's beak.
They're adorable! What happened to the rest of Kia's family you took in? Do you still have them?
This was great! I love doves!
It's cool that a dove's gender is indicated by their behavior rather than their appearance. Does this make same-sex dove pairs difficult spot? Has homosexuality been observed in doves?
Thank you for asking! I've seen many same sex dove and pigeon pairs and their behaviors vary for each pair. Sometimes both with exhibit male and female behaviors as they interact, and sometimes one will exhibit the behaviors of a female and the other male despite their biological sex.
According to wikipedia, yes, homosexuality has been observed in ring-necked doves. :) Dunno if this would make same-sex pairs difficult to spot, though.
If some behave not in accordance with their gender, then how can behavior be used to indicate their gender? That seems like a contradiction.
from what I've heard, same-sex pairings happen quite often with birds in general. I speculate that it's partially a result of the lack of external genitalia and, in some species, the lack of any obvious indicators of sex. This means that a bird might think he's wooing a lady bird, but is actually wooing another male, but doesn't know it. And the other male just happens to accept the wooing for whatever strange reason.
+ShadeSlayer911 Or it could be that birds recognize things in their own species, behavior, coloration, etc, that we, as observers just don't notice, or lack the senses to see (like UV light).
That's is so cool!😱 I love that it makes me super happy!😍😆 It's true love💓
This is just so adorable!!!
I want you to have scorpions. Love the way you share information.
Cool! :D they're so cute! Love your vids!
Lots of channels are doing live feeds I would love to watch any of your animals
Animal Wonders as a matchmaker? Perfect!
That is sweet and romantic. You should get a photographer to take some good pics of them together and make some greeting cards. You could put their story on the back of the card.
Sweet idea!
I'd actually buy those cards.
I love how when your talking about willow, Kia is just in the background 😂
Video idea! Could you talk about how to introduce your bird to family? And advice to the family members. I may be getting a Sun Conure soon and I'm a bit worried about how my family will react to being bit or being screamed at. Wish me luck dudes
I just realized who they were named for. That's so cute, I love that movie :)
hmmn... I have a small flock of these outside my house, and the cooing is cute... in the morning. they don't stop cooing...
Cute! And I love your t-shirt
Beautiful birds! I would love to see a meet and greet on Daisy the boa constrictor or Archie the blue fronted amazon!
I love your vids
That was cute
Aww that's such a cute story :-)
They are so cute! Birds can get a bit tedious to take care of though.
Hi Jessie, thank you for all the videos. My favorite is the one about Chinchillas ( because I have one)
My question is, What is the approximate life expectancy for a dove?
Around 15 years.
my neighbour gave away cuckoo doves "too much trouble looking after them"
Can The white ring neck be introduced to the wild or are they domesticated. I also dearly love all species of birds and Montana is the bomb. Still wish I was back in Helena. God bless and great work!!!
I'm getting a cockatiel, and I've done plenty of research! I'm getting her in 3 weeks, so Saturday the 29th of October. I visit her every Saturday and she's grown accustomed to me! She is a pearled Cockatiel, and I'm naming her Bee! I just wanted to know, what's the proper diet for a cockatiel? Everyone has different opinions on what is healthy.
Fledglings are like bird teenagers.
Dawww, how romantic! 🐦❤🐦 why are Kia's eggs infertile? Just how she is or did you do something to her (surgery, hormones or something)?
MadHatt3r: Her eggs are infertile because Willow's also a girl hahahaha
Jenny Yeah, what a twist 😁 🐦💜🐦
In the wild, they might choose to mate with a male if they wanted chicks, but I have no idea whether or not they'd allow him to take any part in raising them.
How can someone just dump those cute pigeons, I had a baby a couple weeks ago who was left by his parents and raised it till it could fly😊
Willow looks just like my little Biscuit that passed away Monday- he had a heart attack, fell off his perch, and broke his neck...
i saw the all my birds video and then this and a keep laughing when she says williow is a male
💜
Willow and Kia? I think not, more like Snowcone and Cheesecake.
I love how tame and sweet they are.
So cute! I thought flying birds had to have rings on their legs and I didn't notice these two having them. Is this a requirement or something owners can do if they choose to?
I understand how you thought Willow was a male at first. My family has a cat named Bob (we call her that because she looks like a bobcat), and for years, we thought she was a boy. But one day, my mom took Bob to the vet to get her neutered and was told that she was actually a girl. It's funny because we had another cat named Buddy who was a male, and there were never any kittens for five whole years. Also, tabbies kinda look like they have fluffy little testicles, so that made it a bit harder to tell at first glance. Mom actually thought Buddy was gay, but he knew Bob was a girl all along. Telling an animal's gender can be pretty tricky sometimes, eh?
Awesome video! I was wondering, do you trim their wings? If not, how do you prevent from them flying away when they're outside
how would you facilitate the interaction between willow and the pigeon family?
I opened the door to the pigeon's home and set Willow outside. When the chicks started begging for food, he joined them and the pigeon mother just fed him as well. Then they all cozied in together :) I didn't really do anything, I was just there to take him away in case she became aggressive toward him.
Are the pigeons food for any other animals?
Tired of cleaning up? You got the birds they are your RESPONSIBILITY to take care of......selfish people.......you have a companion you take care of that companion
Oh my god, your keeping a bird in that small jug?!? How is that enough room?!
It's Nageki!
I love your videos, they are really helpful! Do you guys have any rats? If you do, I would love to see more of them! 👍
you should show all your pets,,,,PLEASE!!!!!
How do you bring your birds outside in a way that makes you comfortable that they aren't going to just fly away? Do you just rely on their bonding to you, or do you have something else as well?
they don't need harnest to Go to presetations? are they trained in free fly? they have a 100 per cent efficiente recall command? where I can learn more about recall command with birds? mine only come when called: when are hungry or really like The treat. or when I have other bird(s) with me.
Neither of them are that big into flying. When they do fly off my hand they usually only go about 10 feet. I'm pretty comfortable with the reliability of them not flying away.
more meet and greet videos with the snakes, kemosobe, and the roaches
Hi, I just watched the video and am pretty happy about both of them. I'm quite interested by doves in general and am considering maybe owning one when I'll be on my own. The problem is that they live so long and I’m afraid they’ll make too much noise in an apartment. Are doves something of the exception ? I’m attracted to them for their soft cooing and ‘’bland’ appearance. Also, what more can you tell me about them ? I am very unfamiliar with those animals as pets, I used to have a rabbit. Thank you so much for informing me, C. April P. S. : I’m sending you this question by PM as well. I really liked your feather-patterned clothing, too. Where did you get it ?
hey jessei i have a question about doves. I volunteer at my local animal shelter with the small animals and birds. Its not offten that we get doves but recebtly someone brought in 4. They are all happy and heakthy except one of the males has blue specles, like bright sky blue. I didnt think it was posible for that to happen naturally but Ive never hear if people dying dove feathers, do you have an insight into this situation??
when I first read the title I was confused as there's a bird I'm used to called the kia ( I live in new zealand) though it's pronounced like key-ah.
so I was like "why is this bird named after another kind of bird?!?" when I saw the doves in the image
Willow: surprise, not male, just lesbian
What do you do with infertile eggs? Are they edible? So you sell them, throw them out, or keep them do use in a demonstration?
Hi im dearia,i see u work with leopard geckos and i just wanted to ask a quick question i am going to be buying a leopard gecko and iv heard around people say heat lamps arnt good but my room gets really cold, and i was wondering if i should use one to keep the temperature warm 😊
4:17 why don't they just fly away?
Because they trust her.
OMG MY NAME IS KIYA
hi!^^ how do you keep them from flying away when you take them outside?
They're so small
So I have a cockatiel at home and I was wondering if it would be smart to adopt another one. Also how do you know if a lutino cockatiel gender?
How do you take the birds outside without them flying g away????
Is there a reason that you hold them differently than the other birds? I noticed you weren't holding your thumb over their feet.
Yes, parrot type birds have strong zygodactyl toes that can tolerate a thumb hold. Pigeons and other birds with the smaller more fragile toes cannot be held that way. I offer a flat hand and let them choose where they feel most comfortable perching. Kia sometimes has trouble balancing so this method works well for her.
Hey Jessi. If one of the doves dies before the other what will the survivor do? Will they look for a new partner or will they mourn the lost until they die as well?
It depends on the individual. Some will remain single for the rest of their life, but most often they will begin seeking or accepting other mates after a bit.
Cool thanks for the answer.
Do you have information on how the birds themselves differentiate their sex? Some birds have prominent markings in ultraviolet colours outside of the human visible spectrum. Or do these doves rely on behavioural cues as well?
Hey jessi I have a question for you how do I tell if my leopard gecko is a male or female??
Could you do a what, were, how on these?
do they try to fly away when you take them outside?
Is it possible Willow might eventually have a chick with Kia? Or possibly lots? Wouldn't you have to separate them to keep them from breeding? Or would you just take the eggs away so they can't be incubated?
She mentioned that Kia is infertile. :)
+Nicholas Cook Oh i thought she just meant that her eggs so far had been infertile
Ihy
Is there a way to neuter/spay birds like you can with mammals? Or is it just luck that they haven't had babies?
There is no way to safely sterilize birds. The only effective ways to not have offspring is to keep males and females separate, remove the eggs when they're laid, or prevent the embryos from developing.
What do you do with the unfertilised eggs? Are they edible? °3°
(also both doves are super cute aaaa)
We wait until a viable embryo would be detectable, and if they're infertile (like they all have been) we offer them to one of our other animals. Usually the raven, foxes, or Pearl the tegu.
hi jesse! love your work..would the bird get stressed after find that their eggs are missing/unfertilized or dont mind at all?
I had the same question. I should have thought that they would be used in feeding the other animals.
is willow or kia 'fixed'? how have all eggs so far been duds?
Fletchling...
I suppose you've clipped their wings? Can you show how that's done?
actually, it sounds as though Willow at least is fully capable of flight. Kia, on the other hand, probably can't fly due to her malformed wing.
super cute doves. I hunt doves all the time, very interesting species and a great game bird. :) so yummy.
What do you do with the eggs they lay?
Dalin Var they are infertile... I would guess they throw them out.
me and kia have the same name except different spelling and pronunciation
Not the same name at all then, really
