I went for some very long walks listening to this man's voice this summer. Some teary eyed, others just trying to find beauty in the things around me. There's really no way to describe it though
Same, and trust me, soon you will realize that there was beauty in the things you saw and in every step you took setting you away from home for a bit. Those stars shinning your way. That was the beauty.
This song reminds me that our time is limited. I don't have to let society decide over my life, I want to live my life to the fullest, to be in nature, to be with the ones I love, to love myself and not be consumed by a place, a person or a job that is not making me happy. Having enough money to survive is enough, I don't need all that extra stuff.
damn..... this is a heavy song but a reminder to live your life... stop waiting for something to happen to be happy.. you have dominion over your life before you retire... damn what a heavy and beautiful song
I've been comin' here, listening this guy sing his heart out for last 4 years, and I realized I've not left out a comment yet,so here it is ,for this marvelous human being.
Someday my baby, when I am a man And others have taught me The best that they can They'll sell me a suit They’ll cut off my hair And send me to work in tall buildings So it's goodbye to the sunshine Goodbye to the dew Goodbye to the flowers And goodbye to you I'm off to the subway I must not be late I’m going to work in tall buildings When I’m retired My life is my own I made all the payments It's time to go home And wonder what happened Betwixt and between When I went to work in tall buildings So it's goodbye to the sunshine Goodbye to the dew Goodbye to the flowers And goodbye to you I'm off to the subway I must not be late I’m going to work in tall buildings Play In Tall Buildings Written by John Hartford
I love this song so much. It fills me with existential sadness, but also hope that my choices can lead to a fulfilling life. I've been hustling as a songwriter for almost five years now and I want it more than anything. Gregory is one of my biggest influences. Thanks for posting this.
You only get one crack at life. Try to end it with as few regrets as possible, that means not passing up on chances and following your dream, it also means learning to roll with life as it comes rather than wishing it were otherwise. Good luck and stick with it.
Had the pleasure of seeing Isakov live last night in Sandpoint, Idaho where he played this song. My wife & I hadn’t heard it before and we absolutely loved it. We thoroughly appreciated and enjoyed his entire concert. What a talented musical storyteller. His music always transports me to my happy place.
I remember when I first listened to him a year or two ago, and was surprised by how unknown he was. I'm so proud of how far he's come, and how many people that love his music as much as I do. :'D
I don't work in a tall building but I hate it anyway. This song captures the exact range of emotions that one might feel at different points in life. I totally relate to it. The only thing that motivates you to go to work after a point is money for making the necessary payments which leaves you wondering in the end what the hell did you really do! Beautiful song to introspect on! Great rendition. And an amazing voice!
He is so talented and so beautiful, hope I'll find a man someday who can play guitar and sing like this by the river, with me leaning against him, feeling all safe and happy
Gregory Alan Isakov, you've been blessed with a beautiful voice and talent to play guitar and write beautiful songs! Please, keep making great music and sharing it with the world.
It is but a piece of wood with wires strapped to it, the man holding this instrument is where the sound comes from and boy is he's also an impressive ( but subtle) player. But yes it's a mighty fine guitar which I would love to own !
@@jamesturner2914 I know what you mean, but you're wrong. Good guitars sound better than bad guitars. Are you familiar with the term "everything else being equal"? I nearly bought a Gibson J-50 ten years ago. Lovely sound but the top was bellied. Oh well...
@@KingofRoath of course more expensive guitars will sound better, most of the time. But if you were to give SRV a squire bullet he would still be able to get a stunning sound out. The use of amplification is also important and even recording.
Just found this guy from Max Gómez’s cover on gemsonvhs, and damn am I glad that I did! Such a beautiful song. It’s hard to pick between John’s, Max’s, and Gregory’s performances, but they all do this song more than it’s due justice 🙏💘
I promised myself I'd never live in the city with those awful cubicles and fast paced life. I intend to keep that, no matter what. I count my blessings seeing a beautiful country sky and sunset instead sitting behind some desk and computers 8 hours a day. Such a sad existence for a life. Song reminds me of friends that do and I think how fast it will go by for us all.
This song deserves so, so so so much more recognition. I understand it's a cover, but it moves you so much and feels as if it's an original. Glad to say I'm in the first 4,000 views, though :)

Does anyone have to tabliture of how HE plays it, not John Hartford? I have the gist but i need the plucking pattern and the some hammer ons.
