This is the first test after installing the front Lokka. The Xterra has terrible articulation, the front locker helped tremendously, really happy with it.
I have an 02. What kind of cross bars do you have on the roof rack? They look like they sit below the top rail. Really interested in those. Also, where did you get the lokka?
Thanks bud. I am seriously looking at putting one in as I rebuild “ReXy”. She is getting a rebuilt engine in today :). I owned an X when they first came out in 99 and it has been a blast having one again. My kids love it. Drive safe(ish)! EB
Great video dude. I also have PML with lift shackles and 3" lift Bilsteins on my 2003. How does this thing drive on pavement, notice anything different?
urstin sorry I missed this. There's no difference at all on pavement in my mind. If anything having the extra rear travel makes hitting dips and speed bumps much more comfortable instead of bottoming out all the time.
Yeah I did but the plate I used isn't thick enough or it's just a bad design as they flex up to the body when under load. They still get the job done but they're not totally rigid
Don't buy one. Lokka has become really flaky as of late. I bought one, four months ago, no response from the company, and they won't answer emails/messages anything. And I'm not alone. It's a great product, but I don't know what happened to them.
Yeah,I'd really like to get one. But I don't know if they've gone out of business or what. They did respond about a month ago saying it's be another week but then nothing
Thanks! It's basically stock. Cranked the torsion bars a bit and currently have long shackles and an add a leaf in the rear. Tires in the video are 265/75/16 and were just upgraded to 235/85/65 KO2. Really happy with the upgrade.
dtroy15 The rear is open. My problem is my rear shocks limit travel like crazy and the front IFS is nasty anyways obviously. New 5125 Bils come Friday though! In a way though, having terrible rear travel helps show the front Lokka work.
jklewer thanks! I was considering an XTERRA when I posted that comment. Maybe this will satisfy someone else's question. How easy was getting the lokka in the front with IFS? Doesn't it have two CV shafts?
dtroy15 Install was pretty easy. Took the diff down with crossmember attached. There's two flanges, six bolts in each that attach the CVs to the diff. After removing those and the crossmember bolts, the diff dropped down easily. Installation went according to the included Lokka instructions.
Nice that lokka seems to make a pretty big difference off road. is there any drawback when street 2wd ive read something about noise or possiable chirping occasionally on streets I want one now lol. just trying to weigh pros and cons first
There's no difference in 2wd from normal. It's completely disengaged when not in 4wd. The only annoyance I have with it is I end up switching in and out of 4 a lot more, this having to back to disengage the hubs. Gets really annoying if you're wheeling with a group. Manual hubs will be my next mod so that one can be left locked in 4 and then the other can be locked when needed.
+raymond ballejos Yep that's the trail! If you're mechanically inclined, it's not too bad. You'll definitely need help dropping and rotating the diff out. After that though, directions are good.
+John Klewer oh ok cool i was like cleg horn sounds so familiar and looks like the high desert . im a hvacr tech so i have mechanical knowledge but new to fixing cars so still learning. in the next couple of weeks im going for the suspension lift and tires. next on the list will be the lokka i think . thanks for all the help still knew to this but the xterra is a blast.
+raymond ballejos Right on Raymond. If I could give one piece of advice, unless you're going for looks only, be sure to choose your lift and tires with as much room for articulation as possible. Our rigs are capable and built well but don't flex much at all. Let's be honest, a heep with few to no mode would make it up the stuff in the video due to flex alone. I wanted my xterra to stay pretty civilized and the lokka made for tremendous gains in capability.
so im still noob on the theory of the lokka. So when you have the front lokka you cant be in 4 wheel drive unless your in terrain that is loose or low traction . so when your offroad currently with auto hubs you cant use 4x4 unless the terrain is slippery so if you switch to manual hubs you lock only one side so you can stay in 4wd with 3 wheels and lock the other when in slippery terrain is that right
That's the basic idea yep! With manual hubs (1 locked) you can throw it in 4 and jam on the dirt roads and corner more like normal. That's my understanding anyway.
Is any modifications required to the differential gear ratio with these tires? I heard jeep have some kind of equation to find out the gear ratio based on the wheel size. I don't know if it applies to xterras.
I didn't modify the gearing at all. It has the stock 4.9 gears. You should check the door sticker as some came with 4.6 gearing which would have a harder time with taller tires.
Interesting that you locked the front before the rear. Seems to work well though. I've removed the rear sway bar and will be locking the rear on mine. I'm just worried about snapping a half shaft with a front locker.
Really nice! Love Xterras!

Roof rack is custom with home depot stuff. I got the Lokka online, not sure I remember where, it's been some years. Still going strong though!!

You have 3” lift Bilsteins on a PML? Doesn’t a PML raise you about 1.5”? Just got my first X, so please excuse my ignorance.
Damn Cali's beautiful
Joe G it sure is :)
I just ordered a Lokka for my r51 Pathy.
All in all I've been very happy with it. Especially for trucks with limited articulation, it really is a game-changer. Enjoy!
I love mine 04 too got new rims and tires probably getting lift kit tomorrow and I'll be ready for lake tahoe
can send link Front Lokka
1:58 -- not center-locked
What rocker rails are you running in this video?
Vince Ruland Hey they're ones I built, not the world's greatest design
jklewer cool thanks. Did you mount them to the factory nerf bar mounts?
Yeah I did but the plate I used isn't thick enough or it's just a bad design as they flex up to the body when under load. They still get the job done but they're not totally rigid
No rear locker just front?
what size tires?
Why my car can't do it
Good climbing!!!!
Where can I find a front Lokka? I been searching to get one for mine? Appreciate !

@jklewer
Awesome.
Thank you!

Nice is your stock beside the lokkawhat size tires are you running looks good

Does this have the open rear diff or the LSD? Seems like half of your 4WD wasn't doing a lot.

cool vid. might wanna air down though.
XterraJim3074 th
This was a short couple hours off road to test the Lokka, couldn't justify airing back up so quickly :)
just a front lokka any thing in the rear?
adam montgomery nope just the front has the locker. Rear suspension is add a leaf, extended shackles, and 5100s

+John Klewer so is it hard to install the lokka where you wheeling at is that cleghorn on the way to victorville cleghorn

Your rig looks awesome.

No sir

Victor Creed the only option for a rear locker for first gen Xterra’s is the arb air locker.
