    Your response to those situations was a breath of fresh air.
    Most bosses would just scream and shout or fire someone.
    Fine if it was deliberate but not if it was an accident.
    "Before you judge me, make sure you're perfect"
    Best advice from one of the best bosses I ever had
    Hope you didn't get yelled at too much, Mr Digg 👍

    I worked at Fresh Kills Landfill for 28 years. We had over one hundred dozers, plus compactors, off Highway Trucks, Payhaulers, Traxcavators, Scrapers,, 992 and 966 Loaders, and other equipment working 24/7, 365. One thing for sure, #%%#* happens. We had mahines cath fire, and burn to a crisp. I have many pictures of me and other people getting stuck. One thing that used to happen was leachate pooling undergound in covered areas. The ground on top would be bone dry, but lurking only a couple of feet below would be quicksand. You could walk in the area, drive a pickup truck or Swamp Cat on it, no problem. But, a D9 Dozer or loaded dump truck, would sink like a stone. I ended up having to build temporary access roads, out of "road material" (demolition debris) and large stone (from our Rock Crusher).
    That material that your operator got stuck in is especially treacherous. It is a clay that when only marginally wet, turns into this semi dry goop, that sticks to you growsers, killing their effectiveness. We had a contractor bringing in hundreds of truckloads of the stuff. After getting stuck a couple of times, I was able to convince our dirt inspector supervisor, to make the contractor A. Mix it with regular soil or B. Let it set until it thoroughly dries, Their choice. At peek, we had 360 Tractor Operators and Over 1000 support staff (administrators, welders, mechanics, plumbers, carpinters, electricians, carpenters, iron workers, tin smiths, machinists, ladscape architects, and surveyors.)

      I Loved the 245 CAT excavator. They were an excellent design by CAT for their day. That track drive system with the stick in the middle was so much ahead of the old school system that had the little switch on the side of the seat for track drives 😊

    Don't feel BAD 😊 I was pushing mud with a CASE (450) wide track low GP Dozer. It was a mainline sewer job in very very muddy ground. 😊 I guess they wanted the NEW guy just Dispatched out of union hall, to see me work. There was piles of mud around the deep sewer ditch. I started pushing everything was going fine then, "O" no it sunk up to engine plate. As I started to back up, it just sunk deeper. We got a ( JD -555) front loader from across town. This was Aberdeen WA. And if anyone knows that area, it RAINS constantly 😊 I would Dry my rain gear in the stove each night in my hotel room. Anyway we hooked up chains to back of dozer. Thank gosh it had great big ring hooks on back. The loader operator pulled me and I ran dozer in reverse. We got her out of the mud. What happened was got too close to the soft spots on the side of the mainline sewers. The supervisor told use to STOP using the wide track. He would come up with another idea. How we finally smooth out the piles of mud was put a Bucyrus Erie dragline on big wooden boards. And Dragline the extra mud to smooth out the terrible ground conditions 😊😊 the mainline crews were finding historical bottles in the ditch as they dug the ULIT sewer replacement. We had 4 crews working on the streets this was the mid 1970s the city was also digging around the main water supply line for the city. Putting NEW Steele bands on a huge 36 wide water main. The city was doing all their main sewer and water replaced and overhaul maintenance. I mainly was a runner, doing different jobs with a CASE (580-C) you had to engage the differential LOCK to just make the Backhoe drive. Most of the time I was using the backhoe so I did not travel in forward or reverse much. It was my first big dispatch out of union hall. I wanted to make more money running equipment. My uncle was only paying me $5 and hour and no medical insurance. The union was paying $13,84 at the time so I switched. The A list guys had not all come back from the Alaska Pipeline Job, so there was a need for guys and gals if you went to union hall for work. I stayed busy on different mainline sewer jobs till all the A list guys came back home from Alaska. Then I started working for a water utility that when I stayed doing that work. Installing new water service. Repair of leaky mains. I ended my working days manager of a small water Department.
    Had 750 service accounts. Mix of retirement multi level apartments and single family residents. We had a quarter of a million gallons storage tank plus a connection with the next water district off a 24" supply line. I did everything as a manager from reading meters to reports to the commissioner at the monthly meeting.

      @KA-om9oz actually I do own equipment. Anytime my truck or trailer it's not fun. But everyday you wake up healthy is a great day. So equipment breaks, big whoop. Someone get hurt, lose of a digit or limb or dies is a bad day. If everyone goes home the same way they came to work after working around heavy equipment, then that's a great day.

      @grumpyscout4745 11 місяців тому +7

      @KA-om9oz well you take yourself way to serious. Stuff breaks when you use it. It's all part of owning equipment. And if ypur more worried about equipment over the health and wellbeing of your employees, then you sound like an arrogant prick I'd never want to work for. And I've worked in construction since about the time that I could walk. And I've been responsible for 10s of millions of dollars of equipment that my life depended on and responsible for 12 other guys while conducting combat operations. So yeah it's a big whoop if equipment breaks as long as my guys came back un hurt and alive at the end of the day. And nothing that happened in that video is any big deal as long as no one got hurt. Shit just happens some days.

    First vid im watching but I was expecting a shit-storm arriving to that site when the golf cart showed up. Im not sure if its a running joke that he took it well as he is always nice or if he really can throw the hammer down. Not sure, but im likely to go back and watch some other videos to find out :D This was a good look into landfills and holy shit that gloop seemed endless.

    back in the 90s when i was in my teens i worked on an old farm. one day the owner bought a 69 d7e and decided to clean the manure run from the back of the barn, we store the manure here and it has been that way for over a hundred years. first push thru the pile and the dozer started going down. we went to get the tractor and that took an hour but by then tracks were no longer in sight.he called a tow company and we foght to get it out for 2 days but it just went deeper. Finaly it was just the top of the cage we could see. well now the manure pile is still there and a 1969 d7e is still under it. cool vid

    The operator should not have tried so hard to get it out! Once it was stuck he should have gotten off an called for help! 25 years of heavy equipment operation here an I have gotten a dozen stuck one time it was because, I was trying to turn it it the mud, an it sank down! I learned alot, well mistakes happen

    Watching this video unfortunately brought on some ptsd. I worked for a guy that manufactured fear , anxiety and stress in his employees. When you describe getting it done before your dad finds out is exactly what each of us felt under this guy. Why is everyone terrified of your dad? I really enjoyed the mechanics of removing the stuck dozer but hated watching it because of the fear you and your employees expressed. I won't be watching anymore because of it. Thanks
