great video! Birmingham is an awesome place to live and I love being a part of this time with the city is making a new name for itself and erasing the images of the past. I am very proud of our city and especially proud of Birmingham Police Chief Roper for his bringing all the community together, including suburban cities to pray over areas of town with higher crime - resulting in crime rates drastically falling all over the city!
Birmingham is really threiving from Railroad park to the newe Baron stadium downtown. Public transportation is also improving with the moneying awarded for new buses to the new central station about begin construction. The entertainment district is really great. All areas of birmingham are doing good from AC Roper with the prayer walks to the 50 years forward celebrations and the schools improving their image.
Yes this is true! I hope to see Birmingham to become just like any other Major City! Slowly we are getting there, but it takes a steady council and the funding!
We have come so far. SO FAR. Let's keep raising the bar. Meanwhile, a collective hug to all of my fellow "hamsters". I still believe in Magic. happy to live in the "magic city".
A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a giant step forward in Birmingham: take the ALDOT project to tear down, rebuild, and widen the downtown I-59/20 expressway and instead, turn the land into a park. It would turn downtown from a place people avoid to a place want to be. When downtown thrives, the region and state thrives too. Join I Believe In Birmingham (look for us on Facebook) as we go into battle to reclaim our city.
My comment was "high MOST everywhere." But still down from previous years. Many of those homicides were committed inside the home and not on the street. Poverty & drugs crimes also attribute to crime stats. Again, fact is, even according to your stats, we are #25, which does not make us the worse as you are suggesting. It means Birmingham is again moving in a direction to become a model city. It takes time and things are being done to make that happen. Miracles do happen, but take time.
Realizing a lot of people won't like anything Birmingham is doing simply because a lot of them have become habitual cynic's and an ax to grind. Frankly, Birmingham is moving in the right direction no matter what some folks say. Is crime high? Yes! But its high most everywhere. Fact, Crime has been steadily decreasing over the past few years. Are we where we want to be? No! But we are charting a course to becoming a competitive city for travel, sports, and entertainment.
God Bless Our City. It's not just a dream getting this far.. It's a accomplishment.
