Just got my first ever hobonichi cousin a few months ago with the cover and cover on cover. Fingers crossed we see this option for the cousin in the future. The option for a sturdier, more decorative book without adding too much bulk is exciting!
While I like the idea of these, I do love the cover on cover to hold all the random extra little bits that I like to carry with me. I will have to see how I feel about them next year, thank you for the preview!
I like this new all in one planner. I might pick it up next year if I need a daily page planner. I'm really loving the slim and compact weekly supplement I purchased from you during Hobonichi day last year.
Daisy, thanks for the thorough walkthrough! Do you think Hobonichi will eventually release the Hon in an English version too? For now, 3rd year, I'm very content with the A6 planner and cover. As someone else mentioned it's nice to have all the little pockets for accessories that you get with a cover. My challenge this past year was having the willpower *not* to buy another cover (l have two). They always come out with such cute new designs though!!
We don't have these just yet! Hobonichi just sent us samples since they will be available for us this September so look out for the 2024 versions in a few months :)
These planners do sell out rather quickly! Most stores are sold out by the time January/February comes around! Then, you can think about the April start versions, which are available now.
A fine fountain pen would ultimately depend on the type of ink you fill your pen with as inks have different properties that will affect the paper such as saturation, wet/dryness of the ink as well as sheen, shimmer properties. The pilot V5 are wet writers, so I can imagine there would probably be show through. Good luck. Get a sample sheet and test it with your daily writer pens/inks to see if it's worth investing in obtaining one.
The paper Hobonichi uses is Tomoe River. That paper is extremely fountain pen friendly. I have not had an issue with bleeding or showing through and I use a variety of inks and nib sizes. I have a separate Tomoe River notebook for ink swatches and it takes a LOT of ink to make it show through.
I do agree. I also use TR notebooks and individual sheets for my pointed pen calligraphy as well as my ink swatches. I find TR show through depends on the ink you're using. I've had a few inks bleed through slightly on TR as well as some inks that show significant show through (I have more ink than any normal person should own🤫). Best advice is to just test it out with the inks you use to find out if TR works for you. This is why they're different fountain pen friendly journal options no one size fits all. Good luck 😊
The cover options are one of the best parts of the Hobonivhi experience, I couldn't live with just one like the permanent hard-cover Hon.

Omg that last tidbit at the end! I’ve been hoping that they’ll do a Hon in A5 next year 🥹♥️
Depending on the price point, could be a good intro to this planner system. Definitely less to wrap one's head around!

I wouldn't be surprised if an English version of the HON was released next year :)
Bunny rabbits. It's pretty, it will make a nice display on my window sill at work. Thank you.
thank you for explanations 💖💖
When will they be available on the website?

They only sell the a5 planners and covers by the end of the year right? Can't seem to find any..

Are these available to buy please? I’d love the rabbit one 🤞🏻
These ones aren't for sale, sorry! We will have them later this fall!
Can I use something like a fine fountain pen or a Pilot V5 on this, or would it show too much on the other side of the page?

These look so nice. I was hoping they had taken the quotes out. Oh well. They still look beautiful.
