I love the difference in Katakuri’s demeanor throughout the fight. He goes from thinking Luffy ain’t shit, to being confused at him, then furious, back to ain’t shit, seeing potential in him, being let down, then being absolutely furious again, and finally he becomes so respectful while acknowledging Luffy’s growth that he gets so into the fight and is a *completely* different person than the start. Round 1 Katakuri wouldn’t even raise his voice, let alone cry out “YOU CAN’T ESCAPE NOW!!!” at the top of his lungs.
I think Katakuri is a lot like Kaido. It had been so long since he'd fought someone who really pushed him and made him pay attention and FEEL the fight that he couldn't help but enjoy himself. Kaido just wanted a fight where his life was on the line, someplace he could die. But Katakuri had honor and respect. They were both putting it on the line for the people they cared about and Katakuri came to understand Luffy in that fight.
Yo, if I was all strong and stuff with haki and a devil fruit, I'd probably feel the same way. I mean, it must get boring fighting Big Mom's homies and whoever else is up for it. So, when Katakuri first met Luffy, he was probably annoyed, but it turned out to be the best fight of his life.
Luffy vs Katakuri is indeed The most Beautiful and respectfull battle in One piece ... From Lore , choreo other aspects like ego, emotional, understanding... Is just top lvl

bro Katakuri is so much stronger then Quenn or King!!!! His combat ability its just insane... King and Quenn maybe posses more destructive power but we already seen Thesse kind of characters fall down. Katakuri have one of the highest battle IQ i have seen in this anime just my POV!! Just imagine Luffy going 100% Bounce man or Snake man on Quenn or King!!!!! They would be fcked up!!!! Katakuri still made it like worth VS!!!!!!

Absolutely true observation my friend. Katakuri’s recognition of Luffy was a slow burn but a rewarding one for sure!
