    When the 'Thriller' video was released she most likely wouldn't hand been critical of Michael Jackson's cosmetic surgery as she would have been only been 8yrs old, and most likely would have had little knowledge of pre-surgery Michael Jackson in the 1970s with her being born in 1975. He issues with Michael Jackson's change in appearance most likely won't have been until 1987 when the 'Bad' album was released.

      you're talking about Zadie Smith here...as her brother has said, she tried to write a novel at 8 years old! She was a prodigy who was likely able to observe and understand these things even at a very young age; many children can

      Xlover NewmanPro She not saying anything mean, but she is making sweeping statements about being "traumatised" (especially with her being Mixed Race with slim European facial features) and obviously doesn't know enough about Michael Jackson.

    That's interesting for somebody who didn't grow up I the 80s how people reacted to his surgeries.
    This was a very interesting comment bestie i have always wondered would Michael have been as airship had he not made himself less ethnic looking and therefore more approachable to White people skin condition or not

      cushe83 Janet Jackson, Tyra Banks had nose jobs. Literally every black woman straightens her hair. Prince, James Brown had permed wigs. Beyonce wears blonde wigs. So why is Michael Jackson singled out with such vehemence. It's Hypocrisy! He literally had vitiligo and Lupus and scalp burns. The problem is with America, not the artists.

      @@globalcitizennAll the black kids in grew up with in the 80s were ambivalent about MJ's skin color. WE loved him but he kinda showed us he didn't really liked us. Je even went out of his way to have White children. And Many people are ambivalent about Beyoncé and her blonde wigs, I know I am.

      Michael Jackson had vitiligo and had to even out the color of his skin. Why is that so hard for people to understand?

      I don’t like Beyoncé. She’s very overrated. But she doesn’t bleach her skin. She half Creole, which is why she’s lightskin.

    His auto immune disease (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitiligo) was causing his skin to discolour, firstly on his hand, which is the reason for the MJ glove, and as the discolouration spread he had to have makeup applied in order to even it out. It must have been horrible for him to see his natural African American skin colour go, and to receive the prognosis that it would continue to get worse, since he stated that he was proud of his race, and was deeply hurt by such comments as Zadie Smith's. The nose jobs were unnecessary in my opinion. Part of the hair thing was due to the accident he had when doing a pepsi commercial.

    I don't get how Zadie Smith herself would have found Michael Jackson's physical transformation traumatic for herself, as she is not fully black and is Mixed Race with olive skin, and slim European facial features. She not fully black, and wasn't a black school girl with black skin, and a broad African nose with full lips etc.
    Zadie Smith doesn't know what she's talking about regards Michael Jackson. His surgery and the reasons behind his surgery are not necessarily about race, but about psychological issues i.e. his relationship with with own father (who mocked MJ's natural appearance), family members teased him and called him "Big Nose" (including cousins), fans who were disappointed when they met him in his mid teens because he was no longer cute "Little Michael Jackson", but a 15yr old who rapidly grew up to be a gangly teenager with acne (which MJ says caused him a lot damage over his appearance and self confidence).
    I suggest Zadie Smith take a good look at herself as a "Mixed Race" woman with European facial features and light olive skin, and do more research in to Michael Jackson before making a sweeping statement that Michael Jackson's cosmetic surgery traumatised her and traumatised black children all over the world, because that is NOT the case, it's a fact she's made up in her own head.

      BenSCR It's very Narcissistic of her to say that.. she doesn't look black herself. Michael Jackson suffered from horrible skin conditions and she is making it about herself.

      First of all, she's black, being mixed does not take away her blackness. Second, she doesn't have to be dark skinned in order to feel traumatized or hurt by the underlying racism and colorism that DID led Michael Jackson to selfloath and aventually bleach his skin. You dont get to decide what people find distressing and traumatizing, that's completely personal. Wether you like it or not, the message Michael Jackson sent when he bleached his skin was that dark skin was ugly. That being black was ugly.

    • @benscr
      @benscr 3 роки тому +1

      @@Xtarlette She is mixed race, period. Nothing to do with taking away any blackness from her otherwise I would have said she’s white.
      Michael Jackson’s skin also wasn’t as dark as you make out. He has vitiligo, and that was confirmed on his autopsy report.
      You wasted your time sharing your warped opinion and 3yrs too late.

    • @benscr
      @benscr 7 років тому

      7moonwalker7 Zadie Smith has no idea what's she's talking about. For a start she is too young (born in 1975) to have known about Michael Jackson before 'Thriller'. Plus she can't possibly have been traumatised by Michael Jackson's physical transformation, because she is Mixed Race with European facial features and light olive skin, and herself looks racial far closer to cosmetic surgery Michael Jackson than pre-post surgery natural Michael Jackson.
      I read an article she wrote about dancing a couple of months ago, and she wrote a very complimentary piece about Michael Jackson's dancing, but it was way too obvious she has very little knowledge of Michael Jackson's dancing, music and career as a whole.
